Deaconstructing Functions on Quadratic Surfaces into Multipoles

Abstract

Any homogeneous polynomial $P(x, y, z)$ of degree $d$, being restricted to a unit sphere $S^2$, admits essentially a unique representation of the form $λ+ \sum_{k = 1}^d [\prod_{j = 1}^k L_{kj}]$, where $L_{kj}$'s are linear forms in $x, y$ and $z$ and $λ$ is a real number. The coefficients of these linear forms, viewed as 3D vectors, are called \emph{multipole} vectors of $P$. In this paper we consider similar multipole representations of polynomial and analytic functions on other quadratic surfaces $Q(x, y, z) = c$, real and complex. Over the complex numbers, the above representation is not unique, although the ambiguity is essentially finite. We investigate the combinatorics that depicts this ambiguity. We link these results with some classical theorems of harmonic analysis, theorems that describe decompositions of functions into sums of spherical harmonics. We extend these classical theorems (which rely on our understanding of the Laplace operator $Δ_{S^2}$) to more general differential operators $Δ_Q$ that are constructed with the help of the quadratic form $Q(x, y, z)$. Then we introduce modular spaces of multipoles. We study their intricate geometry and topology using methods of algebraic geometry and singularity theory. The multipole spaces are ramified over vector or projective spaces, and the compliments to the ramification sets give rise to a rich family of $K(π, 1)$-spaces, where $π$ runs over a variety of modified braid groups.

Local-to-global maximality for plurisubharmonic functions with locally analytic singularities

We prove that a locally maximal plurisubharmonic function on a domain in $\bC^n$, $n\geq2$, is maximal if it has locally analytic singularities with a two-sided locally bounded remainder. Using McAdam's theorem, we show that local maximality forces the analytic spread of each defining ideal to be less than $n$. We use normalized blow-ups and Siu's analyticity theorem to compare singularities through generic divisorial Lelong numbers. We also obtain a criterion for maximality in terms of maximality outside the pole set and the analytic spread of the local defining ideals.

Oka-Weil approximation theorem for polynomials with exponents in compact convex sets in $\mathbb R^n$

Let $S\subset\R^n_+$ be a compact convex set with $0\in S$, and let $\cP^S$ be the ring of polynomials whose exponents of the $m$-th degree lie in the dilates $mS$. Sigurðardóttir proved an Oka--Weil theorem for compact $\cP^S$-convex subsets of $(\C^*)^n$ and asked whether it holds for all compact $\cP^S$-convex subsets of $\C^n$. We answer this question affirmatively when the cone $\R_+S$ is rational polyhedral, for every $S$ when $n=2$, and for several classes of nonpolyhedral cones in all dimensions; in all these cases the compact sets may meet the coordinate hyperplanes. For arbitrary $S$ we prove that the Oka--Weil property of a compact $\cP^S$-convex set is equivalent to the compactness of its hull with respect to a finitely generated monomial subring of $\cP^S$, to a corona-type certificate, and to the existence of a bounded neighbourhood defined by finitely many inequalities $|p_j|<c_j$ with $p_j\in\cP^S$. The proofs use monomial charts, the classical Oka--Weil theorem in an auxiliary affine space, and elementary Gelfand theory. As applications we obtain an Oka--Stolzenberg criterion for $\cP^S$-hulls and the corresponding rational approximation theorem.

On coefficient theorems for starlike and quasi-convex of type B mappings in complex Banach spaces

In this paper, we study biholomorphic mappings $F: \mathbb{B} \to X$ of the form $F(z) = f(z)z$ for $z \in \mathbb{B}$, where $f: \mathbb{B} \to \mathbb{C}$ is a holomorphic function satisfying $f(0) = 1$ and $X$ is a complex Banach space with the unit ball $\mathbb{B}$. The main contributions of this paper are threefold. First, we establish a sufficient coefficient condition for a function $F(z)=zf(z)$ to be starlike and quasi-convex of type $B$ in a complex Banach space. Second, we prove that the Bieberbach conjecture holds for these classes of functions. Finally, we analyze the difference of coefficients for such functions in this setting. The results established here directly extend the previous results to the broader setting of complex Banach spaces.
