Transition maps between the 24 bases for a Leonard pair

Abstract

Let $V$ denote a vector space with finite positive dimension. We consider a pair of linear transformations $A : V \to V$ and $A^* : V \to V$ that satisfy (i) and (ii) below: (i) There exists a basis for $V$ with respect to which the matrix representing $A$ is irreducible tridiagonal and the matrix representing $A^*$ is diagonal. (ii) There exists a basis for $V$ with respect to which the matrix representing $A^*$ is irreducible tridiagonal and the matrix representing $A$ is diagonal. We call such a pair a Leonard pair on $V$. In an earlier paper we described 24 special bases for $V$. One feature of these bases is that with respect to each of them the matrices that represent $A$ and $A^*$ are (i) diagonal and irreducible tridiagonal or (ii) irreducible tridiagonal and diagonal or (iii) lower bidiagonal and upper bidiagonal or (iv) upper bidiagonal and lower bidiagonal. For each ordered pair of bases among the 24, there exists a unique linear transformation from $V$ to $V$ that sends the first basis to the second basis; we call this the transition map. In this paper we find each transition map explicitly as a polynomial in $A,A^*$.

Polygraphic resolutions for operated algebras

This paper introduces the structure of operated polygraphs as a categorical model for rewriting in operated algebras, generalizing Gröbner--Shirshov bases with non-monomial termination orders. We show how to construct polygraphic resolutions of free operated algebras from confluent and terminating presentations. We provide a combinatorial description of critical branchings of operated polygraphs using the structure of polyautomata introduced in this paper. Polyautomata are linear polygraphs equipped with an operator structure formalized by a pushdown automaton. Finally, we apply our constructions to several families of operated algebras, including Rota--Baxter algebras, differential algebras, and differential Rota--Baxter algebras.

Nonassociative algebras of anti-biderivation-type

The main purpose of this paper is to study the class of Jacobi-Jordan-admissible algebras whose product is an anti-biderivation of the related Jacobi-Jordan algebra; we call them $\mathcal A{\rm BD}$-algebras. We give characterizations of $\mathcal A{\rm BD}$-algebras and show that this class includes Jacobi-Jordan algebras, symmetric anti-Leibniz algebras and anti-${\rm LR}$-algebras. The derived algebra of an anti-${\rm LR}$-algebra is associative and commutative, and all identities of its commutator algebra follow from the metabelian identity and one identity of degree $4$. We also study $\mathcal A$flexible ${\mathcal A}{\rm BD}$-algebras and prove that a complex finite-dimensional Jacobi-Jordan algebra admits a non-trivial post-Jacobi-Jordan structure if and only if its dimension is at least $3$. Finally, we give the algebraic classification of complex $3$-dimensional $\mathcal A{\rm BD}$-algebras and show that complex finite-dimensional simple ${\mathcal A}{\rm BD}$-algebras are anticommutative, while perfect ones need not be; the minimal dimension of perfect non-anticommutative ${\mathcal A}{\rm BD}$-algebras is $4$.

Quasi-projective dimensions of complexes over rings

Quasi-projective dimension of modules over associative rings is generalized in this paper to the one of complexes of modules. Basic properties of this dimension are established, including a comparison result with projective dimension and a derived Auslander-Buchsbaum formula for complexes of finite quasi-projective dimension. Several sufficient conditions are provided for a commutative noetherian local ring to be a complete intersection under the assumption that each finitely generated module has finite quasi-projective dimension. This provides some positive answers to an open question on quasi-projective dimension proposed by Gheibi-Jorgensen-Takahashi. Moreover, the behavior of quasi-projective dimension under taking the quotient of a commutative ring modulo a regular sequence is investigated, and some partial results toward the change-of-rings question on quasi-projective dimension are given.
