Hamiltonian S^1 manifolds are uniruled

Abstract

The main result of this note is that every closed Hamiltonian S^1 manifold is uniruled, i.e. it has a nonzero Gromov--Witten invariant one of whose constraints is a point. The proof uses the Seidel representation of π_1 of the Hamiltonian group in the small quantum homology of M as well as the blow up technique recently introduced by Hu, Li and Ruan. It applies more generally to manifolds that have a loop of Hamiltonian symplectomorphisms with a nondegenerate fixed maximum. Some consequences for Hofer geometry are explored. An appendix discusses the structure of the quantum homology ring of uniruled manifolds.

Bott-integrable contact forms with large systolic ratio

We show that there is no universal upper bound for the systolic ratio of Bott-integrable contact forms on closed 3-manifolds, thus providing further evidence for the relative flexibility of integrable contact forms. For the proof, we study piecewise linear approximations of Lutz forms and establish integrability of a `plug' constructed by Abbondandolo, Bramham, Hryniewicz and Salomão for pushing up the systolic ratio.

Relative symplectic cohomology in complex projective spaces

Relative symplectic cohomology is an invariant of compact subsets of a closed symplectic manifold, introduced by Varolgunes. There are many examples of computations of this invariant over the Novikov field, but the collection of computed examples over the Novikov ring is still quite limited. One reason for this is that such computations require determining the relevant Floer complexes for Hamiltonians that are not necessarily $C^2$-small Morse functions. In this work, we present a computation of relative symplectic cohomology over the Novikov ring for balls and their complements in $\mathbb{C}P^n$. Our computation relies on explicit descriptions of Floer complexes, in the Morse--Bott setting with cascades, for J-shaped Hamiltonians on $\mathbb{C}P^n$. This allows us to deduce new estimates for the stable displacement energy of the boundaries of balls in $\mathbb{C}P^n$.

A Proof of the Area Vanishing Square Peg Conjecture

We resolve an open problem posed by Tao related to the Toeplitz square peg conjecture. We prove that four simple closed polygonal curves in the cylinder, each winding once in the positive direction, jointly inscribe a square whenever the alternating sum of their $\int y\, dx$ integrals vanishes. The proof reduces the problem to the non-displaceability of a pair of Lagrangian tori, which we establish using Lagrangian Floer homology.
