Spin structure function g_1 at small x and arbitrary $Q^2: Total resummaion of leading logarithms vs Standard Approach

Abstract

The Standard Approach (SA) for description of the structure function g_1 combines the DGLAP evolution equations and Standard Fits for the initial parton densities. The DGLAP equations describe the region of large Q^2 and large x, so there are not theoretical grounds to exploit them at small x. In practice, extrapolation of DGLAP into the region of large Q^2 and small x is done with complementing DGLAP with special, singular (~x^{-a}) phenomenological fits for the initial parton densities. The factors x^{-a} are wrongly believed to be of the non-perturbative origin. Actually, they mimic the resummation of logs of x and should be expelled from the fits when the resummation is accounted for. Contrary to SA, the resummaton of logarithms of x is a straightforward and natural way to describe g_1 in the small-x region. This approach can be used at both large and small Q^2 where DGLAP cannot be used by definition. Confronting this approach and SA demonstrates that the singular initial parton densities and the power Q^2-corrections (or at least a sizable part of them) are rather not real physical phenomena but the artefacts caused by extrapolating DGLAP into the small-x region.

Resumming transverse observables for NNLO+PS matching in GENEVA

We study the use of higher-order resummation for transverse observables to achieve NNLO+PS matching within the GENEVA framework. In particular, we embed $q_T$ resummation for colour-singlet production at N$^3$LL obtained via soft-collinear effective theory and implemented in the library SCETlib within GENEVA. We also study for the first time the use of the generalised $N$-jettiness variable in parton shower matching, and achieve the resummation of the one-jettiness defined with transverse measures up to NLL$'$ accuracy. As a case study, we use these resummed calculations to construct a GENEVA NNLO+PS generator for Higgs boson production in heavy-quark annihilation (with beauty or charm-quarks in the initial state). The use of transverse measures facilitates the matching to showers ordered in transverse momentum, and opens the door to possible future extensions of this approach to the production of colour singlets in association with final-state jets.

Matching HEFT and SMEFT in double and triple Higgs production from weak boson fusion

In this work we study the matching between the two most popular effective field theories for beyond standard model Higgs physics, SMEFT and HEFT. To perform this matching we follow the approach of identifying the corresponding scattering amplitudes for physical processes in both theories, instead of the most usual approach of relating the corresponding effective Lagrangians or effective actions. In this work we focus on the physical processes of double and triple Higgs production from weak boson fusion, in particular, $WW \to HH$, $ZZ \to HH$, $WW \to HHH$ and $ZZ \to HHH$ and complement them with the elastic scattering $HH \to HH$. We present here the analytical solution to this matching in terms of relations among the coefficients in both theories and comment on the most relevant phenomenological implications of such relations for collider physics.
