Localizing the Elliott Conjecture at Strongly Self-absorbing C*-algebras --An Appendix

Abstract

This note provides some technical support to the proof of a result of W. Winter which shows that two unital separable simple amenable ${\cal Z}$-absorbing C*-algebras with locally finite decomposition property satisfying the UCT whose projections separate the traces are isomorphic if their $K$-theory is finitely generated and their Elliott invariants are the same.

Single generation of transformation group algebras

We prove that $C(X)\rtimesΓ$ is singly generated whenever $Γ$ is a finitely generated discrete amenable group and its action on the nonempty compact metrizable space $X$ is free, minimal, and has the uniform Rokhlin property and Cuntz comparison of open sets. In particular, every free minimal $\mathbb Z^d$-crossed product with metrizable underlying space is singly generated.

Applications of $C^*$-Entropy to Representation Growth for Discrete Groups

The topological $1$-bounded entropy $h^\text{top}(C^*(Γ))$ of the full group $C^*$-algebra of a finitely generated group $Γ$ is given a representation-theoretic interpretation. The implications of Hilbert-Schmidt and matricial stability in this setting are investigated, recovering and strengthening a representation growth result of Hadwin and Shulman. The entropy framework is used to recover upper bounds on representation growth for superrigid groups and property (T) groups. This recovers a result of De La Harpe, Robinson, and Valette on the growth rate of the irreducible unitary representations of a property (T) group within the framework of $1$-bounded entropy. A soft proof that $SL_n(\mathbb{Z})$ admits subexponential representation growth is recorded.

Algebraic topology of $C^*$-algebras

Any $C^*$-algebra can be regarded as a generalization of locally compact, Hausdorff topological space $\mathcal X$. From the commutative commutative Gelfand-Na\uımark theorem it follows that the spectrum of any commutative $C^*$-algebra is a locally compact, Hausdorff space which have the exact information of the $C^*$-algebra. Here we consider a Gelfand spaces of $C^*$-algebras which can be regarded as a generalization of the spectrum. In case of commutative $C^*$-algebras the Gelfand space coincides with the spectrum. Generally Gelfand spaces are not Hausdorff and provide more detailed information of noncommutative $C^*$-algebras. Usage of Gelfand spaces of $C^*$-algebra enables us to define some $C^*$-algebraic analogs of several notions of the classical algebraic topology, e.g. cohomology, fundamental group, multiplicative structure of $K$-theory and Adams operations
