Interplay of Electroweak Precision Observables and B Physics Observables

Abstract

Indirect information about the possible scale of supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking is provided by B physics observables (BPO) as well as electroweak precision observables (EWPO). We review the combination of the constraints imposed by recent measurements of the BPO BR(b -> s gamma), BR(B_s -> mu+ mu-), BR(B_u -> tau nu_tau) and Delta M_{B_s} with those obtained from the experimental measurements of the EWPO M_W, sin^2 theta_eff, Gamma_Z, (g-2)_mu and M_h. We perform a chi^2 fit to the parameters of the constrained minimal supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model (CMSSM), in which the SUSY-breaking parameters are universal at the GUT scale. Assuming that the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) provides the cold dark matter density preferred by WMAP and other cosmological data, we confirm the preference found previously for a relatively low SUSY-breaking scale, though there is some slight tension between the EWPO and the BPO.

Dark Photon mediated Inelastic Dark Matter in Cosmology, Astrophysics and Colliders

We explore the phenomenology of Dark Photon iDM ($A^\prime$IDM) where the Standard Model (SM) is extended by a dark sector containing an additional $U(1)_D$ gauge symmetry with coupling $α_D$ under which all SM particles are neutral, and that couples to the SM hypercharge gauge boson through a kinetic mixing parameter $ε$. The model contains two Majorana states $χ_1$ and $χ_2$ with $δ=M_{χ_2}-M_{χ_1}>0$ and $χ_1$ the dark matter candidate, and a dark photon $A^{\prime}$ with mass $M_{A^{\prime}}$. Our analysis represents an integration of existing ones, where only specific benchmarks of the A'IDM scenario have been discussed. We perform a complete scan of the parameters of the model ($M_{χ_1}$, $δ$, $M_{A^{\prime}}$, $ε$, $α_D$) and discuss the $χ_1$ relic abundance, its direct and indirect searches, as well as potential signals from astrophysics and accelerators. Our scan shows that $α_D=α_{EM}$ is not disfavored, as some previous analyses, limited to specific benchmarks, may suggest. We also find that when the $χ_1$ relic density matches observation direct and indirect searches are not kinematically accessible. On the other hand we find that the projected luminosity of FASER, a detector searching for Long Lived Particles (LLP) decay at the LHC, can probe or rule out the parameters space of the model for $M_{χ_1}\lesssim$ 7 GeV, 100 MeV$\lesssimδ\lesssim$300 MeV and $M_{A^\prime}\lesssim$25 GeV. This range of parameter could be significantly extended by the FASER 2 upgrade proposed for the High-Luminosity phase at the LHC. The parameter space probed by LLP seaches partially overlaps with that probed by $χ_1$ capture in neutron stars.

Reassessing the $X(2370)$ in $J/ψ\toγK_S^0K_S^0π^0$ beyond the one-dimensional mass projections

The BESIII Collaboration recently extracted the properties of the $X(2370)$ from a fit to the one-dimensional $K_S^0K_S^0π^0$ invariant-mass spectrum in $J/ψ\toγK_S^0K_S^0π^0$. The intermediate two-body structures visible in the mass correlations, including the $K_0^*(1430)$ bands, require a coherent treatment of cross-channel interference when interpreting the enhancement near 2.3 GeV. We reassess the need for an additional $X(2370)$ contribution by fitting the published data using an effective coupled-channel framework with an approximate detection efficiency depending on the three-body invariant mass. The three-body parent amplitude is parameterized using a $K$-matrix that describes scattering among several quasi-two-body channels. The seven- and eight-bare-state models give similar mass distributions. Adding the eighth bare state lowers the Poisson deviance by 1.22% and produces an additional pole at $E=(2419-i152)$ MeV, substantially broader than the $X(2370)$ mass-width reference. This pole is model-dependent, and its identification with the $X(2370)$ is not clear. The present analysis does not establish the need for an additional $X(2370)$ contribution in $J/ψ\toγK_S^0K_S^0π^0$, thereby weakening the flavor-singlet argument based on the suppression of $K^*\bar K$ relative to the total $K\bar Kπ$ contribution. A more comprehensive experimental amplitude analysis, incorporating coherent interference, mass and angular correlations, and detector effects across related decay channels, is needed to establish the role and decay properties of the $X(2370)$.

Gauge Interactions Involving New Vector and Pseudoscalar Particles

The Vector gauge bosons $Z'$ and axion-like particles (ALPs) $a$ are predicted by the $U(1)_X$ gauge extension and Peccei-Quinn (PQ) models, respectively. We focus on the interactions of the $Z'$ boson and the $a$ particle with the $W^\pm$ gauge boson, and investigate the production cross section and related kinematic distributions for the $Z'/a\to W^+W^-$ decay process at hadron colliders. We consider the angular distributions of charged leptons in the final states corresponding to the semileptonic and fully leptonic decays of the $W^\pm$ boson, separately. The study shows that, in the associated production processes of $Z'/a$ with $W^+$ or $Z$ bosons, the angular distributions of final-state leptons can serve as an important observable for probing new gauge interactions, and can also provide a criterion to distinguish vector particles from pseudoscalar particles.
