Twisting Elements in Homotopy G-algebras

Abstract

We study the notion of twisting elements $da=a\cup_1a$ with respect to $\cup_1$ product when it is a part of homotopy Gerstenhaber algebra structure. This allows to bring to one context the two classical concepts, the theory of deformation of algebras of M. Gerstenhaber, and $A(\infty)$-algebras of J. Stasheff.

Semi-topological Galois cohomology and Weierstrass realizability

Semi-topological Galois theory associates a canonical finite splitting covering to a monic Weierstrass polynomial. The inverse limit of the corresponding deck groups defines the absolute semi-topological Galois group, $\PiST(X,x)$. This paper develops a cohomology theory for $\PiST(X,x)$ with discrete torsion coefficients, establishing its fundamental properties and canonical comparison maps to singular cohomology. A Lyndon-Hochschild-Serre spectral sequence is used to yield an obstruction theory for semi-topological embedding problems. We prove several structural and vanishing results, including ST-fullness for free fundamental groups and triviality for finite fundamental groups. As applications, we provide a criterion for lifting finite projective monodromy to linear monodromy, formulate the $π_1$-detectable Weierstrass realizability conjecture for divisor classes and show that this conjecture is true for abelian varieties, smooth complex projective curves and ruled surfaces over positive-genus curves.

Derived plethystic algebra

We prove comparison results about $\infty$-categories of derived commutative rings with extra algebraic structure. For example, we show that several notions of derived $δ$-rings agree and obtain similar results for derived $λ$-rings, derived binomial rings, and derived Boolean rings. Our comparison results apply more generally to modules over a specific kind of monad on derived rings that we call derived plethory.

Galois actions on surfaces and a higher genus Grothendieck-Teichmüller group

We construct a modular operad $\mathbf{S}$ of mapping class groupoids modelling the higher-genus Teichmüller tower, with compositions and contractions encoding surface gluing. We prove a presentation theorem for maps out of $\mathbf{S}$ using genus-zero and genus-one generators and relations. Applying the work of Nakamura--Schneps, we obtain a faithful action of their subgroup $\widehatΓ\subseteq \widehat{\mathsf{GT}}$ on $\widehat{\mathbf{S}}$, and hence a faithful Galois action. The genus-zero truncation identifies with the cyclic operad of parenthesized ribbon braids, whose object-fixing profinite automorphism group is $\widehat{\mathsf{GT}}$. The completed classifying spaces form a modular $\infty$-operad whose corolla values are geometric étale homotopy types of moduli stacks of curves with nonzero tangent vectors at their marked points. The $\widehatΓ$-action induces a faithful action by homotopy automorphisms on the associated tower of profinite homotopy $1$-types, which agrees with the étale model in genus zero and one.
