Fast Dipolar Charge-Polarization Fluctuations: Toward a Unified Pairing Mechanism in Bad Metals
Abstract
The dynamics of a quantum system at low energies is strongly influenced by effective interactions generated by states at higher energies. In effective models of correlated electron systems, contributions from the high-energy bands to the two-particle scattering vertex, beyond dielectric screening, are typically limited to virtual hopping-induced purely kinetic corrections. Considering a mixed kinetic-potential process involving the Coulomb interaction between particles and hopping-induced fast dipolar charge-polarization fluctuations, we obtain an analytical expression for the effective interaction between particles at low energies. Applied to cuprates (doped Mott insulators) and iron-based systems (Hund's metals), the interaction yields the observed $d_{x^2-y^2}$ and $s^{+-}$ gap symmetries, raising the prospect of a unified pairing mechanism across bad metals.
