Quantum Simulation of Detuning-Controlled Proximity-Induced Localization and Reentrant Delocalization in a Quasiperiodic Ladder

Abstract

We demonstrate proximity-induced localization and re-entrant delocalization in a detuned quasiperiodic ladder. In the weak-quasiperiodic regime, where uncoupled Aubry-André chains are extended, a staggered detuning applied to only one leg induces localization in the neighboring leg through inter-leg hybridization. With further increasing detuning, the pure chain re-enters a delocalized regime, producing a delocalized-localized-delocalized sequence without directly modifying its quasiperiodic potential. We identify these regimes using static localization diagnostics and demonstrate experimentally accessible dynamical signatures on IBM Quantum hardware: strongly suppressed wavefunction spreading in the proximity-localized regime and its re-entrant recovery at larger detuning. These results establish leg-selective detuning as a programmable control knob for inducing and reversing localization in coupled quasiperiodic systems.

Simulating cavity QED with spin-orbit coupled Bose-Einstein condensates revisited

Simulating cavity quantum electrodynamics in synthetic platforms offers a route to studying light--matter physics without real photons. We reassess the frequently invoked analogy between harmonically trapped, spin--orbit-coupled atoms and the quantum Rabi and Dicke models, with particular emphasis on squeezing and entanglement. A single non-interacting atom realizes the quantum Rabi Hamiltonian exactly, up to elementary spin and phase-space rotations. For $N$ non-interacting atoms, however, the center-of-mass mode is only one member of a complete orthonormal set containing $N-1$ relative modes. We prove that, after all modes are included, the spin--spin terms generated by the collective mode cancel exactly against those generated by the relative modes. Equivalently, the original Hamiltonian is a sum of independent one-particle Hamiltonians and therefore cannot create interparticle entanglement from a separable state. Contact interactions invalidate this cancellation but do not remove the relative modes or turn the exact many-body Hamiltonian into a Dicke model. A one-mode Dicke description can arise only as a controlled low-energy approximation after all relevant relative excitations have been shown to be spectrally suppressed. We discuss this distinction together with experimental scales, finite temperature, and possible mode-selection strategies. We also distinguish the single-particle interference underlying density fringes from the interaction-stabilized stripe supersolid observed in many-body condensates.

Localized states of the non-Hermitian Schr{ö}dinger equation with a complex $1/r^{2}$ potential: from Efimov states to bipolarons

We study the non-Hermitian Schrödinger equation with a complex $1/r^{2}$ potential, which bridges Hermitian few-body and non-Hermitian many-body physics: a real attractive potential describes Efimov bound states, whereas a purely imaginary one describes the medium-induced interaction between two heavy polarons at large separations. We solve this equation analytically, obtaining both the localized and continuum states, and compare the solutions with numerical and WKB results. As the imaginary part of the potential is increased, the energies of the Efimov bound states acquire imaginary parts and rotate counterclockwise in the complex plane. On approaching the purely imaginary potential, the excited states disappear sequentially, while the Efimov ground state is smoothly connected to a bipolaron state localized at short distance. Such a bipolaron is localized solely by the medium-induced imaginary interaction, without any attractive real potential. Solving the equation by finite differences, we find that each bipolaron state is necessarily accompanied by another localized state that oscillates on the scale of the mesh size and hence has no counterpart in the continuum limit. Each such pair coalesces at an exceptional point as the strength of the purely imaginary potential is varied, whereas the coalescence is lifted once a finite real part is introduced. We show that this behavior originates from a symmetry of the discretized Schrödinger equation that holds for any purely imaginary potential.

Approximate vortex lattices of atomic Fermi superfluid on a spherical surface

While planar Fermi superfluids form Abrikosov vortex lattices under magnetic or effective gauge fields, spherical geometry forbids perfect lattices above 20 vortices. We characterize approximate vortex structures of atomic Fermi superfluids under an effective monopole field on a spherical surface as an analogue of the planar vortex-lattice problem by two constructions based on the Ginzburg-Landau theory. The first one is geometric and uses the random, geodesic-dome, and Fibonacci lattices as scaffolds to construct the order parameter from the degenerate monopole harmonics. The second one minimizes the free energy by numerically adjusting the coefficients to find the solution with the minimal Abrikosov parameter. We have verified the vortices from both constructions are zeros of the order parameter with circulating currents around the vortex cores. As the number of vortices increases, the Abrikosov parameters of both the Fibonacci-lattice and minimization solutions extrapolate to the planar value. We briefly discuss implications for ultracold atoms in thin spherical-shell geometry.
