Receiver-Informed Transmitter for 200Gbps C-Band Direct-Detection PON With FFE-Free ONU

Abstract

We introduce and numerically demonstrate receiver-informed transmitter (RITX) waveform design for 200 Gb/s PAM-4 C-band direct-detection PON. Using 50 GHz optoelectronics, RITX achieves N1/E1 loss classes with FFE-Free ONU, enabling 40 km reach and 48.1%/66.7% network-wide complexity savings at 1:64/1:128 splits

Chiral edge-state signatures of Berry monopole merging and splitting in a bilayer photonic crystal slab with synthetic momentum

Berry monopoles are point degeneracies in parameter space where the Berry curvature emanates radially, analogous to magnetic monopoles. Here, we report the adiabatic merging and splitting of Berry monopoles in a bilayer photonic crystal slab combining one genuine and one synthetic momentum. Two monopoles approach, merge, and split within this hybrid parameter space. The process is described by an effective coupled-mode model and confirmed by full-wave simulations. We further propose a scheme to experimentally probe the Berry monopole merging and splitting by monitoring the evolution of chiral edge states localized at the interface between two topological phases with inverted band structures.

Unlocking the O-Band Coherent Transmission: high-power, broadband soliton microcomb

The O-band (1260-1360 nm), located near the minimum chromatic dispersion of standard single-mode fiber, is an important transmission window for short-reach data-center interconnects. Its broader use is limited by the availability of scalable multi-wavelength, high-power and low-noise light sources. Here we demonstrate a high-power O-band soliton microcomb architecture combining an 834 GHz self-injection-locked (SIL) Si3N4 microcomb spanning 1050-1650 nm with a single-stage bismuth-doped phosphosilicate fiber amplifier. The system delivers > 0 dBm per carrier for 21 O-band comb lines over a 100 nm bandwidth, exhibiting low-noise operation and a 5 dB variation in amplifier gain. We validate the amplified source in a 25-km coherent WDM transmission experiment using 32-GBd dual-polarisation 64-QAM. Comb carriers spanning the O-band are characterised under simultaneous WDM loading, yielding an aggregate GMI-estimated throughput of 7.23 Tb/s and a post-FEC throughput of 6.94 Tb/s. This approach establishes a practical route towards broadband, high-power O-band microcomb sources for multi-terabit optical interconnects.

Enhanced Third-Harmonic Generation in a Bound State in the Continuum Assisted Multiband All-Dielectric Metasurface

Multiband Fano resonances are demonstrated in the near-infrared (near-IR) using an all-dielectric metasurface whose unit cell consists of four silicon nanoblocks on a glass substrate. An in-plane asymmetry triggers symmetry-protected quasi-bound states in the continuum (QBICs), producing multiple high-Q resonances. Their origin is identified through multipolar decomposition of the scattering cross section and field distributions at the resonances. The strong field localization at these resonances enables efficient multiband third-harmonic (TH) generation in the ultraviolet (UV), with a maximum simulated conversion efficiency of $8.5 \times 10^{-3}$ at a peak pump intensity of $1.6\,\mathrm{GW/cm^{2}}$. The metasurface is fabricated in symmetric and asymmetric configurations, and its linear and nonlinear responses are measured under normal incidence. A TH conversion efficiency of $1.2 \times 10^{-6}$ is obtained at a peak pump intensity of $3.25\,\mathrm{GW/cm^{2}}$. These results establish a route to multiband photonic devices, including multiwavelength lasers, multiband harmonic generation, and single-photon sources for quantum photonics.
