Central Haagerup Tensor Products and Completely Bounded Maps under Strong Morita Equivalence

Abstract

Let $A$ and $B$ be strongly Morita equivalent $C^*$-algebras, implemented by a nonzero imprimitivity bimodule $X={}_AX_B$ with its canonical operator-space structure. Denote by $Z_X$ their common multiplier centre, canonically identified through $X$. The coefficient action gives a complete contraction $Θ_X:A\otimes_{Z_X,h}B\to\operatorname{CB}(X)$, where $A\otimes_{Z_X,h}B$ is the central Haagerup tensor product obtained by balancing over $Z_X$ and $\operatorname{CB}(X)$ is the space of completely bounded maps on $X$. We show that $Θ_X$ is injective exactly when every Glimm ideal of $A$ is $2$-primal, and isometric, equivalently completely isometric, exactly when every such ideal is primal. For each positive integer $\ell$, norm preservation for sums of at most $\ell$ elementary tensors is equivalent to $(\ell^2+1)$-primality of every Glimm ideal. These conditions may equivalently be imposed on $B$. This extends the corresponding theorems of Somerset and Archbold--Somerset--Timoney to imprimitivity bimodules. We also show that, after matrix stabilization, the optimal constants bounding the central Haagerup norm by the completely bounded norm coincide for $X$, $A$ and $B$, at every finite tensor length and on the completed products, and agree with the corresponding constants after compact stabilization.

A note on purely infinite extensions

We study a strong pure infiniteness property for extensions, and give a classification result for extensions which contains many (and possibly all) previous cases, under standard and mild assumptions. We also prove a Voiculescu-type theorem decomposition theorem for certain C*-subalgebras of a corona algebra, for which the inclusion map has this strong pure infiniteness property.

Actions of Fell bundles, II: tensor products and Fourier-Stieltjes algebras

In the context of Fell bundles over discrete groups, we introduce and analyze suitable notions of direct sum and tensor product of actions of Fell bundles on Hilbert bundles. For $C^*$-dynamical systems, where actions arise from equivariant representations, we discuss how the tensor product of two such actions is related to the action associated with the tensor product of the underlying equivariant representations. Likewise, since any action gives rise to a $C^*$-correspondence between the full cross-sectional $C^*$-algebras of the involved Fell bundles, we examine the connection between the $C^*$-correspondence associated with the tensor product of two given actions and the tensor product of the associated $C^*$-correspondences. We also discuss how the tensor product of actions naturally appears in Rieffel-like induction processes. Finally we present related results on the Fourier-Stieltjes and Fourier algebras of a Fell bundle.

The generator problem for C*-algebras with comparison

We show that certain classes of unital, simple, separable C*-algebras with comparison are singly generated, including tracially AF algebras and monotracial crossed products of actions on the Cantor space. In particular, we show that simple, separable, tracially AF algebras have generator rank one.
