Quantum hierarchies of the ILW and BO equations and the DR cycles on the moduli spaces of curves

Abstract

In an earlier paper of P. Rossi and the first author, a construction of a wide class of quantum hierarchies was presented, with the input data given by an arbitrary cohomological field theory. A crucial role in the construction is played by the double ramification (DR) cycles on the moduli spaces of stable curves. As a special case, one gets a quantization of the hierarchy of the Intermediate Long Wave (ILW) equation. The ILW equation has two famous limits: the Korteweg--de Vries equation and the Benjamin--Ono (BO) equation, and for the latter one a quantum hierarchy was constructed by Nazarov and Sklyanin. In our paper, we propose a conjecture describing a relation between a limit of the quantum ILW hierarchy and the Nazarov--Sklyanin hierarchy and present various checks to support it.

Central Limit Theorems for Outcome Records in Disordered Quantum Trajectories

We prove annealed functional central limit theorems for finite pattern counts in the measurement record of discrete-time quantum trajectories, with the instrument applied at each step determined by an invertible, probability-preserving base dynamical system. When the base is ergodic, under summable strong-mixing coefficients of the instrument process and a summable uniform annealed trace-norm forgetting rate for the associated non-selective channel cocycle, we establish a joint functional CLT for bounded vector-valued functions of finite outcome blocks under the annealed law determined by the dynamically stationary state. We then extend this limit to every measurable random initial state, yielding a universal functional CLT with unchanged stationary centering and asymptotic covariance. We also provide practical sufficient criteria ensuring the existence and uniqueness of the dynamically stationary state and the required annealed trace-norm forgetting. We illustrate the results through a broad family of examples, including disordered walk-type models generated by finite group actions, measurement followed by preparation, and instruments with reset components. The results apply to general disordered quantum instruments and are not restricted to the perfect-measurement regime; they complement the law of large numbers established by Ekblad, Moreno-Nadales, and Pathirana (2026) for the same disordered setting and provide a disordered counterpart of the homogeneous CLT of Attal, Guillotin-Plantard, and Sabot (2014).

Quasi-Product States and Factor Types for the One-Dimensional Hard-Core Model

We study the von Neumann algebra generated by a quasi-product state associated with the one-dimensional hard-core lattice gas. If \(κ>0\) denotes the activity (fugacity), the transfer-matrix construction gives the stationary transition matrix \[ P=\begin{pmatrix}p&q\\ 1&0\end{pmatrix}, \qquad p+q=1, \qquad κ=\frac{q}{p^2}. \] The stationary Markov measure on the hard-core path space induces a faithful diagonal state on the corresponding path \(AF\)-algebra. We give a state-preserving identification of its GNS von Neumann algebra with the Feldman--Moore algebra of the measured tail equivalence relation. The relation is hyperfinite and ergodic, and its nonzero ratio set is \(κ^{\mathbb Z}\). Consequently, the generated algebra is the hyperfinite factor of type \(\mathrm{II}_1\) when \(κ=1\), and of type \(\mathrm{III}_λ\), where \(λ=\min\{κ,κ^{-1}\}\), when \(κ\ne1\). The point \(κ=1\) is not a thermodynamic phase transition: the pressure and particle density are analytic for all \(κ>0\). We also describe the precise support-corner relation with the GNS algebra of the diagonal Gibbs state on the quasi-local spin algebra, and we determine the centralizer and the flow of weights.

Hyperbolic Completion of Newton's Off-Center Orbit Problem: Constant-Curvature Rigidity, $SO(2,1)$ Symmetry, and Magnetic Uniqueness

The hyperbolic potential $$ V(r)=-\fracα{(R^2-r^2)^2} $$ was identified by Olshanii as the negative-curvature counterpart of Newton's off-center circular-orbit problem. We first show that this form is not an isolated ansatz. For a planar radial natural Hamiltonian at fixed energy, if the Jacobi metric is regular at the force center and has nonzero constant Gaussian curvature, then, up to radial and overall scales, $$ E-V(r)=\fracα{(R^2\pm r^2)^2}. $$ Thus the spherical and hyperbolic off-center models are the two nonflat regular radial constant-curvature branches. We then complete the dynamics of the negative-curvature branch. At zero energy its Jacobi metric is a constant multiple of the Poincare disk metric. An explicit Runge--Lenz-type vector and the angular momentum form an on-shell $\mathfrak{so}(2,1)$ moment map; their algebra gives the supporting-circle equation without integrating the equations of motion. The cotangent lift of circular inversion preserves the moment map and intertwines the exterior and punctured-interior flows after a positive time change. The singular circle is at infinite Jacobi distance but is reached in finite Newtonian time. Finally, requiring the magnetic two-form to preserve the full orientation-preserving hyperbolic isometry group uniquely forces it to be a constant multiple of hyperbolic area, hence $B(r)=-Q/(R^2-r^2)^2$ in disk coordinates. The resulting shifted $\mathfrak{so}(2,1)$ Casimir gives the standard circle--horocycle--hypercycle transition at $Q^2=8mαR^2$, now as an explicit coupling statement in the off-center Newtonian system.
