Probing alternating-parity bands in even-even nuclei within an axial quadrupole-octupole-hexadecapole collective model

Abstract

An analytic quadrupole octupole hexadecapole (QOH) axially symmetric model is used to provide a coherent framework for describing both octupole vibrations and octupole deformations in even-even nuclei. The model offers analytical solutions for the energy spectra and electric E1, E2 and E3 transition probabilities. The spectroscopic features are governed by three physically meaningful parameters: the stiffness constant $c_2$, the hexadecapole deformation parameter $ϕ_{02}$, and the sextic potential parameter $α$, directly linked to $ϕ_{01}^π$ which represents the interplay between the quadrupole and octupole deformations for both even and odd angular momentum states. The model is applied across a broad range of nuclei including Ra, Th, Sm, Ba, U, Gd, Nd, Rn, Pu, Xe, and Ce isotopes, effectively capturing the characteristic properties of alternating parity bands. Detailed calculations of E1, E2, and E3 transition matrix elements have been performed for $^{220,222}$Rn, $^{222,224,228}$Ra, and $^{144,146}$Ba yielding results in good agreement with available experimental data.

Quark and hybrid stars with renormalization group improvement of NNLO perturbative QCD

Recently, the NNLO perturbative QCD pressure of cold and dense symmetric matter, with arbitrary quark masses, has been resummed within the renormalization-group-optimized perturbation theory (RGOPT) framework. By being imbued with renormalization group properties, the resulting pressure is less sensitive to renormalization scale ($Λ\equiv X μ_B/3$) variations than the NNLO perturbative QCD pressure. Here, we extend this by considering $β$-equilibrium and charge neutrality to evaluate the corresponding equation of state (EoS). We provide a compact ``pocket" fitting formula for the EoS for $N_f=2+1$ massive quarks at different renormalization scale parameter ($X$) values. We describe pure quark stars as well as hybrid stars with quark-cores. Pure quark stars compatible with astrophysical observations were obtained with $X=2.71-3.30$, whereas a larger value (3.84) is needed if the secondary component of the observation GW190814 represents a neutron star. Hybrid stars were built considering three representative hadron models based on a relativistic mean-field description, and chosen to produce soft and stiff EoSs. Stable hybrid stars with masses compatible with the massive pulsar PSR J0740+6620 were obtained considering $X$ of the order of 2 to $2.71$, the largest scale giving rise to hybrid stars with a large quark core with a radius of 2 to 8 km , and the smallest to a small quark core at the center of the star.

Novel chiral-wobbling excitation mode in atomic nuclei

The properties of high-spin band structures in $^{74}$Br nucleus are investigated using the triaxial projected shell model (TPSM) and particle triaxial rotor (PTR) approaches. It has already been demonstrated that lowest three bands observed in $^{74}$Br have a characteristic feature of a chiral-wobbler. The first excited band is the chiral partner of the yrast band and the second excited band is the wobbling band based on the yrast state. We have analyzed the third excited band using the TPSM and PTR calculated quantities, and a unique character of this band is revealed. It is predicted that this band is the chiral partner of the second excited band, and is also a wobbling mode based on the first excited band.

Impacts of isolated nucleon-nucleon correlations in relativistic $^{16}$O+$^{16}$O collisions

Nucleon-nucleon (NN) correlations in nuclear ground states can leave measurable imprints on the initial geometry of relativistic light-ion collisions. We introduce an Acceptance-Rejection Method (ARM) that provides a controlled framework for assessing the effects of selected two-body spatial correlations while keeping the underlying one-body radial density fixed. Starting from a common three-parameter Fermi (3pF) radial profile, we construct ensembles that separately incorporate pair-distance correlations ($\mathrm{ARM}_r$) and pairwise angular correlations ($\mathrm{ARM}_θ$), and compare them with $^{16}\mathrm{O}$ configurations generated by Variational Monte Carlo (VMC) and Nuclear Lattice Effective Field Theory (NLEFT). We find that radial pair-distance correlations largely determine the bulk scale of initial-state geometric fluctuations, while angular correlations provide additional information required to reproduce eccentricity--energy covariance observables. The remaining small differences between the full many-body configurations and $\mathrm{ARM}_θ$ indicate contributions from higher-order many-body correlations not encoded by two-body constraints alone. These results demonstrate how controlled correlation sampling can quantify the impact of nuclear many-body structure on initial-state observables in relativistic light-ion collisions.
