Decoding Register Tokens Preserves Global Scene Details

Abstract

Pretrained vision transformers learn structured image representations spanning spatial patch tokens and non-spatial tokens. Recent analyses suggest that non-spatial register tokens encode global scene properties such as illumination, blur, and style. Yet patch-based image decoders discard these outputs, leaving the decoder to recover image appearance from patches alone. We investigate whether retaining register features improves decoding when the complete spatial patch representation is already available. We study this question using representation autoencoders (RAEs) with frozen register-equipped encoders. Our decoder processes four register tokens together with all patch tokens through joint self-attention. Appearance probes, paired reconstruction-error analysis, and fixed-decoder register substitutions examine which global image properties are accessible from registers and how their values affect reconstructed pixels. For generation, we train a multi-head attention pooling (MHAP) predictor to recover register features from sampled patches, keeping the pretrained diffusion model and its samples unchanged. On ImageNet-1K, our ViT-B decoders achieve mean reconstruction FIDs of 0.472 with DINOv2 and 0.442 with DINOv3, reductions of 9.5% and 5.2% relative to their respective patch-only baselines. The corresponding PSNRs are 19.73 and 20.54 dB. For generation, our DINOv2 models achieve a mean FID of 1.641, 9.8% below the patch-only baseline on identical sampled patches.

PanoLAM: Large Avatar Model for Gaussian Full-Head Synthesis from One-shot Unposed Image

We present a feed-forward framework for static Gaussian full-head reconstruction and novel-view rendering from a single unposed image. Unlike previous work that relies on time-consuming GAN inversion and test-time optimization, our framework can reconstruct the Gaussian full-head model given a single unposed image in a single forward pass. This enables fast reconstruction and rendering during inference. To mitigate the lack of large-scale 3D head assets, we propose a large-scale synthetic dataset from trained 3D GANs and train our framework using only synthetic data. For efficient high-fidelity generation, we introduce a coarse-to-fine Gaussian head generation pipeline, where sparse points from the FLAME model interact with the image features by transformer blocks for feature extraction and coarse shape reconstruction, which are then densified for high-fidelity reconstruction. To fully leverage the prior knowledge residing in pretrained 3D GANs for effective reconstruction, we propose a dual-branch framework that effectively aggregates the structured spherical triplane feature and unstructured point-based features for more effective Gaussian head reconstruction. Experimental results show the effectiveness of our framework compared to existing work. The dataset is available at https://github.com/PanoLAM/PanoLAM_Dataset.

Exploring the Underwater World Segmentation without Extra Training

Accurate segmentation of marine organisms is vital for biodiversity monitoring and ecological assessment, yet existing datasets and models remain largely limited to terrestrial scenes. To bridge this gap, we introduce \textbf{AquaOV255}, the first large-scale and fine-grained underwater segmentation dataset containing 255 categories and over 20K images, covering diverse categories for open-vocabulary (OV) evaluation. Furthermore, we establish the first underwater OV segmentation benchmark, \textbf{UOVSBench}, by integrating AquaOV255 with five additional underwater datasets to enable comprehensive evaluation. Alongside, we present \textbf{Earth2Ocean}, a training-free OV segmentation framework that transfers terrestrial vision--language models (VLMs) to underwater domains without any additional underwater training. Earth2Ocean consists of two core components: a Geometric-guided Visual Mask Generator (\textbf{GMG}) that refines visual features via self-similarity geometric priors for local structure perception, and a Category-visual Semantic Alignment (\textbf{CSA}) module that enhances text embeddings through multimodal large language model reasoning and scene-aware template construction. Extensive experiments on the UOVSBench benchmark demonstrate that Earth2Ocean achieves significant performance improvement on average while maintaining efficient inference.

CHIMERA: Adaptive Cache Injection and Semantic Anchor Prompting for Zero-shot Image Morphing with Morphing-oriented Metrics

Recent diffusion-based image morphing methods typically interpolate inverted latents and reuse limited conditioning signals, which often yields unstable intermediates for heterogeneous endpoint pairs. In particular, (i) feature reuse is usually partial or non-adaptive, leading to abrupt structural changes or over-smoothing, and (ii) text conditions are commonly obtained independently per endpoint and then interpolated, which can introduce incompatible semantics. We present CHIMERA, a novel zero-shot diffusion morphing framework that addresses both issues via inversion-guided denoising with complementary feature reuse and text conditioning. Adaptive Cache Injection (ACI) caches a broader set of multi-scale diffusion features beyond Key-Value-only reuse during DDIM inversion, and re-injects them with layer- and timestep-aware scheduling to stabilize denoising and enable gradual fusion. Semantic Anchor Prompting (SAP) uses a VLM to generate a shared anchor-prompt and anchor-conditioned endpoint prompts, and injects the anchor into cross-attention to improve intermediate semantic coherence. Finally, we propose Global-Local Consistency Score (GLCS), a morphing-oriented metric that jointly captures global domain harmonization and local transition smoothness. Extensive experiments and a user study show that CHIMERA produces smoother and more semantically consistent morphing results than prior methods, while remaining efficient and applicable across diverse diffusion backbones without retraining.
