Thyroid Nodule Segmentation in Ultrasound Images with Conformal Uncertainty Estimation

Abstract

Thyroid nodules affect a large proportion of the general population. Although most are benign, a non-negligible fraction is malignant. Ultrasound imaging is the primary diagnostic modality, and accurate nodule segmentation is a prerequisite for CAD systems to classify malignancy and assess metastatic risk.\\ In this work, we propose a thyroid nodule segmentation framework that integrates a DeepLabV3+, channel-attention modules and post-hoc conformal prediction, providing both accurate mask and pixel-level uncertainty estimates. We address thyroid ultrasound nodule segmentation as the first stage of a pipeline that also includes malignancy classification and metastatic risk prediction. We adopt DeepLabV3+, whose Atrous Spatial Pyramid Pooling (ASPP) captures multi-scale context, with an EfficientNet-B5 backbone for its accuracy-efficiency trade-off. Additionally, we test three channel-attention modules: Squeeze-and-Excitation, CBAM and Grouped Channel Attention (GCA), paired with two loss formulations (Dice-BCE and Boundary).\\ Since binary masks do not indicate prediction confidence, we wrap the trained model with a split conformal prediction layer that produces pixel-level uncertainty maps with statistical coverage guarantees.\\ We evaluate all configurations on the TN3K public benchmark using a fixed split and directly compare them with state-of-the-art methods. The plain backbone already improves upon previously reported results, with CBAM + Dice-BCE emerging as the best overall configuration.

PanoLAM: Large Avatar Model for Gaussian Full-Head Synthesis from One-shot Unposed Image

We present a feed-forward framework for static Gaussian full-head reconstruction and novel-view rendering from a single unposed image. Unlike previous work that relies on time-consuming GAN inversion and test-time optimization, our framework can reconstruct the Gaussian full-head model given a single unposed image in a single forward pass. This enables fast reconstruction and rendering during inference. To mitigate the lack of large-scale 3D head assets, we propose a large-scale synthetic dataset from trained 3D GANs and train our framework using only synthetic data. For efficient high-fidelity generation, we introduce a coarse-to-fine Gaussian head generation pipeline, where sparse points from the FLAME model interact with the image features by transformer blocks for feature extraction and coarse shape reconstruction, which are then densified for high-fidelity reconstruction. To fully leverage the prior knowledge residing in pretrained 3D GANs for effective reconstruction, we propose a dual-branch framework that effectively aggregates the structured spherical triplane feature and unstructured point-based features for more effective Gaussian head reconstruction. Experimental results show the effectiveness of our framework compared to existing work. The dataset is available at https://github.com/PanoLAM/PanoLAM_Dataset.

Exploring the Underwater World Segmentation without Extra Training

Accurate segmentation of marine organisms is vital for biodiversity monitoring and ecological assessment, yet existing datasets and models remain largely limited to terrestrial scenes. To bridge this gap, we introduce \textbf{AquaOV255}, the first large-scale and fine-grained underwater segmentation dataset containing 255 categories and over 20K images, covering diverse categories for open-vocabulary (OV) evaluation. Furthermore, we establish the first underwater OV segmentation benchmark, \textbf{UOVSBench}, by integrating AquaOV255 with five additional underwater datasets to enable comprehensive evaluation. Alongside, we present \textbf{Earth2Ocean}, a training-free OV segmentation framework that transfers terrestrial vision--language models (VLMs) to underwater domains without any additional underwater training. Earth2Ocean consists of two core components: a Geometric-guided Visual Mask Generator (\textbf{GMG}) that refines visual features via self-similarity geometric priors for local structure perception, and a Category-visual Semantic Alignment (\textbf{CSA}) module that enhances text embeddings through multimodal large language model reasoning and scene-aware template construction. Extensive experiments on the UOVSBench benchmark demonstrate that Earth2Ocean achieves significant performance improvement on average while maintaining efficient inference.

CHIMERA: Adaptive Cache Injection and Semantic Anchor Prompting for Zero-shot Image Morphing with Morphing-oriented Metrics

Recent diffusion-based image morphing methods typically interpolate inverted latents and reuse limited conditioning signals, which often yields unstable intermediates for heterogeneous endpoint pairs. In particular, (i) feature reuse is usually partial or non-adaptive, leading to abrupt structural changes or over-smoothing, and (ii) text conditions are commonly obtained independently per endpoint and then interpolated, which can introduce incompatible semantics. We present CHIMERA, a novel zero-shot diffusion morphing framework that addresses both issues via inversion-guided denoising with complementary feature reuse and text conditioning. Adaptive Cache Injection (ACI) caches a broader set of multi-scale diffusion features beyond Key-Value-only reuse during DDIM inversion, and re-injects them with layer- and timestep-aware scheduling to stabilize denoising and enable gradual fusion. Semantic Anchor Prompting (SAP) uses a VLM to generate a shared anchor-prompt and anchor-conditioned endpoint prompts, and injects the anchor into cross-attention to improve intermediate semantic coherence. Finally, we propose Global-Local Consistency Score (GLCS), a morphing-oriented metric that jointly captures global domain harmonization and local transition smoothness. Extensive experiments and a user study show that CHIMERA produces smoother and more semantically consistent morphing results than prior methods, while remaining efficient and applicable across diverse diffusion backbones without retraining.
