Contractible Closed Reeb Orbits on Prequantization Bundles under Weak Index Conditions

Abstract

In this paper we study the multiplicity of contractible closed Reeb orbits on prequantization circle bundles. Building on the existing multiplicity result Theorem 1.3 for closed Reeb orbits on prequantization $S^1$-bundles, we weaken the index assumptions by requiring only that the supporting contact form has no contractible periodic Reeb orbits with mean Conley-Zehnder index zero and no contractible good periodic Reeb orbits with Conley-Zehnder index 0, and we obtain a lower bound for the number of geometrically distinct contractible closed Reeb orbits carried by contact forms $α$ on a prequantization $S^1$-bundle under certain natural topological assumptions (Theorem 1.6). In dimension five we further relax the index assumptions and show that, under a mild index condition imposed only on simple contractible periodic orbits and the same topological assumptions on the prequantization $S^1$-bundle, every non-degenerate supporting contact form carries at least $\dim H_*(B;\mathbb{Q})$ geometrically distinct contractible closed Reeb orbits (Theorem 1.11), in agreement with the conjectural lower bound for prequantization bundles.

Periodic Inscription of Isosceles Trapezoids

We prove that a pair of continuous disjoint periodic curves in $\mathbb{C}$ inscribes an isosceles trapezoid with any similarity type. The case of smooth curves can be identified with a Lagrangian intersection problem for a pair of Lagrangian cylinders in $\mathbb{R}\times S^1\times\mathbb{C}$, and the continuous case follows from the smooth one by a standard convergence argument.

The Four Periodic Inscription Problem

We prove that four periodic curves in $\mathbb{C}$ inscribe a family of isosceles trapezoids for every angle $θ\in(0,π)$, whose similarity types are determined by the signed areas between the quotients of the curves in the infinite cylinder. In the smooth case, the problem is identified with a Lagrangian intersection problem in $\mathbb{R}\times S^1\times\mathbb{C}$, while the continuous case follows by a convergence argument.

A Multidimensional Birkhoff Theorem for some $C^0$ Lagrangians

We prove a multidimensional Birkhoff theorem for a new class of "$C^0$ Lagrangian subsets" in cotangent bundles, obtained as Hausdorff limits of compact exact Lagrangian submanifolds with control on their Liouville primitives. If the successive images of such a subset $L$ under the flow of a Tonelli Hamiltonian admit convergent subsequences in both positive and negative time, then $L$ and all its images are Lipschitz graphs over the base. This extends Birkhoff's celebrated theorem for twist maps of the annulus and its known higher-dimensional generalizations, and provides a first version of such results for merely continuous objects. The proof combines Floer-theoretic graph selectors, variational solutions of the Hamilton-Jacobi equation, and weak KAM theory. We also investigate the rigidity and uniqueness of limiting primitives for this new class of singular Lagrangian subsets, which may be of independent interest in $C^0$ symplectic topology.
