Prekosmic Grothendieck/Galois Categories

Abstract

We develop a theory on duality between groups and the categories of their representations, by providing an abstract characterization of such categories. The theory has two parallel formulations, each presenting a duality analogous to one of the two that were originally proposed by Grothendieck: the one between profinite groups and the abstract categories of their continuous representations on finite sets, and the other between affine group schemes over a field and the abstract categories of their finite-dimensional linear representations. In the present theory, groups and their representations are internal to a symmetric monoidal base category, with no finiteness condition imposed. The role of a fiber functor is played by a fiber point, an abstraction of the forgetful functor with its chosen adjoint. Over each base, a group determines the category of its representations equipped with the canonical fiber point, and a pointed abstract category determines the group that represents the presheaf of automorphisms of its chosen fiber point. These constructions yield mutually quasi-inverse equivalences of $(2,1)$-categories. By introducing change of base, we gather the dualities over individual bases into a single duality in each formulation. For a pointed abstract category, fiber points of the category are in perfect correspondence with torsors under the group associated to the chosen point. As an illustration of the theory, we reformulate the Galois theory of covering spaces for nonempty, path-connected, locally path-connected, semilocally simply connected spaces.

The span-squares adjunction

We show a universal property of the span $\infty$-category that yields a description of functors defined on this category. For this, we view the span construction as a functor from double $\infty$-categories to $\infty$-categories, and show that this functor admits a right adjoint defined by the double $\infty$-categories of squares. As an application, we obtain a model for the localization of an $\infty$-category in terms of a span $\infty$-category and also give another proof of the model given by the relative nerve. Moreover, using the span-squares adjunction, we obtain new proofs of the equivalences between different models of algebraic $K$-theory, given by the $\Q$-, the $\oS$-, the cobordism model, and the squares construction.

Simple-shifted monoidal derived equivalences for tensor categories

In this paper, we investigate monoidal derived equivalences between tensor categories with infinitely many isomorphism classes of simple objects. We introduce the notion of a simple-shifted monoidal derived equivalence and prove that a simple-shifted monoidal derived equivalence gives rise to a tensor equivalence. In addition, we investigate which tensor categories have the property that every monoidal derived equivalence between them is necessarily simple-shifted, and we establish some sufficient conditions for this property. As a corollary, we show that a monoidal derived equivalence between pointed tensor categories implies a tensor equivalence between them.

Dold--Kan Correspondences via Morita Normalization

The classical Dold--Kan correspondence identifies simplicial modules with connective chain complexes. Using Morita theory, we construct a Dold--Kan-type correspondence for every linear category carrying a suitable action of the maximum-preserving simplicial operators. The construction functorially assigns a Morita-equivalent normalized category to every such linear category. In particular, we obtain Dold--Kan-type correspondences for all crossed simplicial groups. We prove a rank formula for the normalized hom-modules and show that a crossed simplicial group is self-dual precisely when its underlying simplicial set of automorphism groups has dimension one. Furthermore, we construct normalization-compatible self-dualities and recover the Dwyer--Kan correspondence for duplicial, paracyclic and N-cyclic modules.
