Irreducibility of the Cuboid Polynomial $Q_{p,q}(t)$ via the Rank-One Chabauty-Coleman Method

Abstract

Let $Q_{p,q}(t)\in\mathbb{Z}[t]$ be Sharipov's even monic degree-$10$ second cuboid polynomial, with coprime positive integers $p\ne q$. We prove that $Q_{p,q}(t)$ is irreducible over $\mathbb{Q}$, and hence over $\mathbb{Z}$. More generally, the normalized associated quintic $P_s(x)$ and its composition $P_s(t^2)$ are irreducible over $\mathbb{Q}$ for every $s\in\mathbb{Q}\setminus\{0,\pm1\}$. The proof reduces linear and quadratic factors to rational points and horizontal conjugate pairs on one fixed genus-$2$ curve. A certified rank upper bound for its Jacobian, together with an exact divisor calculation, gives a rank-one annihilating differential at the prime $3$. For the quadratic-factor case, the symmetric coordinates of a horizontal pair lie on an explicit double cover of an elliptic quartic. All rational affine points on this model are $3$-adically integral and reduce to six smooth residue classes. The pulled-back differential is a unit in each class, proving that six displayed points form the complete list. Their coordinates exclude every admissible parameter. A negative real root of the irreducible quintic then supplies the additional degree argument required for irreducibility of the degree-$10$ polynomial. The rank computation and all exact arithmetic certificates are specified explicitly for reproduction.

Prescribed Primitive Roots And The Least Primes

Let $q\ne \pm1,v^2$ be a fixed integer. The least prime number $p \geq2 $ such that $q$ is a primitive root modulo $p$ is conjectured to be $p\ll (\log q)(\log \log q)),$ where $\gcd(p,q)=1$. This note proves the existence of a small subset of primes $p$ that satisfies the stated upper bound.

Lateral Weak Stieltjes Derivatives: A Global Characterization of Stieltjes--Sobolev Spaces

Weak formulations for Stieltjes differential equations must retain the directional information carried by atoms of the driving measure. We derive a lateral integration-by-parts identity in which the posterior trace of the test function is forced by the atomic product rule. The resulting dual formulation gives an exact global characterization of integral Stieltjes--Sobolev spaces for the full exponent range from one to infinity and reconstructs the unique strong representative from its traced weak state. We prove that the associated traced weak operator is closed, establish Poincaré--Stieltjes estimates, and \rev{characterize Stieltjes absolute continuity inside bounded variation through a canonical derivative measure whose restriction to the open interval is the classical distributional derivative}. The framework is then applied to finite-dimensional nonlinear measure-driven systems, yielding equivalence of weak, integral, and measure formulations, existence and uniqueness under integrable Lipschitz assumptions, compactness-based existence, and intrinsic reset laws. Cubic and logistic models illustrate the simultaneous encoding of continuous evolution and instantaneous interventions.

On Diophantine tuples involving star numbers

In this paper, we discuss two related Diophantine tuple problems involving star numbers $S_n=6n(n-1)+1$. First, we investigate classical $D(k)$-tuples whose elements are star numbers. We construct infinitely many $D(k)$-pairs for several positive and negative admissible values of $k$, and we prove several nonexistence results for $D(k)$-triples and quadruples. Second, we introduce a modified notion of a star number $D(k)$-tuple, requiring $a_ia_j+k$ itself to be a star number. We construct several infinite families of $D(1)$-triples, and study their extensions to quadruples. In particular, we prove that $\{4,108,165\}$ has the unique extension $\{4,108,165,360\}$ to a star number $D(1)$-quadruple. The main tools used in this paper are generalized Pell equations, Nagell's theorem, lower bounds for linear forms in logarithms due to Matveev and Dujella-Pethő version of the Baker-Davenport reduction method in diophantine approximation.
