Lusztig's asymptotic algebra and a cell factorisation for the second lowest two-sided cell in type $\tilde{B}_n$

Abstract

We determine Lusztig's asymptotic algebra for the second lowest two-sided cell~$Δ_1$ in the equal parameter extended affine Weyl group $\tilde{\mathsf{B}}_n$ for all $n\geq 2$, realising it as a full matrix algebra over the representation ring of $\mathsf{Sp}_{2n-2}(\CC)\times C_2$ with $C_2$ the group of order~$2$. Our result is an explicit isomorphism of based rings, determining the image of each basis element $\mathsf{t}_w$ of the asymptotic algebra. As a consequence we verify that Lusztig's original conjecture from 1989 on the structure of the asymptotic algebra holds for this cell. A key ingredient in our proof is a refinement of Shi's description of~$Δ_1$, giving an explicit parametrisation of the elements of this cell (a \textit{cell factorisation}). This cell factorisation simultaneously describes all intersections of left and right cells, with uniqueness and length-additivity of expressions. Applications include a classification of the involutions in $Δ_1$, and a calculation of the length generating functions for $Δ_1$ and the right cells in~$Δ_1$.

Representing Vineyard Modules

Time-series of persistence diagrams, more commonly known as vineyards, are a useful way to capture how multi-scale topological features vary over time. However, we do lose significant information in how the persistent homology at different time stamps relate to each other. A natural algebraic version of vineyards is a time series of persistence modules equipped with interleaving maps between the persistence modules at different time stamps. We call this a vineyard module. In this paper we will set up the framework for representing a vineyard module via an indexed set of vines alongside a collection of matrices. We outline an algorithmic way to transform the bases of the persistence modules at each time step within the vineyard module to make the matrices within this representation as simple as possible. With some reasonable assumptions on the vineyard modules, this simplified representation can be completely described (up to isomorphism) by the associated vineyard and a vector of finite length. While this vineyard and vector representation is not necessarily unique we can prove that the vector will always be the zero vector when the vineyard module is isomorphic to the direct sum of vine modules. We also show uniqueness when the vineyard module contains two vines (over field $\mathbb{F}_2$) and can characterise and count which are realisable, giving a complete account of isomorphism classes of vineyard modules with two vines. To define and analyse this approach we first must set up a lot of preliminary results about changes of bases for pairs of persistence modules where we are given $\varepsilon$-interleaving maps for sufficiently close $\varepsilon$. This new perspective on vineyards also provides a new approach to the study of multi-parameter persistence modules.

Extremal monomials of $q$-characters

In this short paper, we prove a conjecture of Frenkel-Hernandez, which states that $q$-characters of finite-dimensional simple modules of the quantum affine algebra $U_q(\widehat{\mathfrak{g}})$ are bounded by the Weyl group orbit of the leading monomial under Chari's braid group action. This can be regarded as a (partial) quantum affine generalization of the Weyl group invariance of characters of finite-dimensional representations of $\mathfrak{g}$.

Generic distinction of induced representations: the case of symmetric spaces

Let H be the fixed-point subgroup of an involution of a reductive group G over a local field F of characteristic zero. We give a necessary condition for a parabolically induced representation of G(F) to admit a non-zero family of H(F)-equivariant linear forms depending holomorphically on the induction parameter. By works of Blanc-Delorme and Brylinski-Delorme, this condition is essentially sufficient. As a global consequence, we obtain vanishing results for regularized periods of Eisenstein series. We illustrate this on symplectic periods, where we extend Offen's computation of truncated periods of certain cuspidal Eisenstein series to inner forms of GL(2n).
