Saturating $T^2$ resistivity in iron-based superconductors

Abstract

Many correlated metals exhibit a crossover from low-temperature $ρ\propto T^{2}$ behavior to a slower increase of the resistivity at elevated temperatures. Distinguishing phonon scattering from electron--electron correlations as the origin of this crossover is experimentally challenging. We introduce a simple phenomenological framework that isolates the contribution responsible for the high-temperature saturating tendency. This approach reveals a clear contrast between systems well known for the predominance of electron--phonon scattering and several iron-based superconductors. For the latter, the conductivity can be expressed as the sum of a Fermi-liquid-like term ($\propto 1/T^{2}$) and a temperature-independent component, which together describe $ρ(T)$ up to $\sim 250$ K in LiFeAs, KFe$_2$As$_2$, and KCaFe$_4$As$_4$. In FeSe, the same approach identifies a similar regime above the nematic transition, with a pronounced change toward nearly linear-in-$T$ resistivity below it. We discuss these findings in the broader context of coherence and electronic correlations in Hund's metals.

Synthesis and stability of high-$T_c$ LaH$_{10\pmδ}$ films at high pressures

High-pressure hydrides hold the record for the highest superconducting critical temperatures across all classes of superconductors. Currently lanthanum decahydride, LaH$_{10}$, exhibits the highest critical temperature among binaries, with $T_c \approx$ 250 K at pressures between 140-180 GPa. Here, we report the synthesis of LaH$_{10\pmδ}$ films in two DACs at pressures of 168 GPa and 176 GPa via in situ laser heating of elemental lanthanum films with ammonia borane (NH$_3$BH$_3$) as the hydrogen donor. The high-symmetry fcc lanthanum sublattice (space group $Fm\bar3m$) is resolved using synchrotron X-ray diffraction, with unit cell parameters in excellent agreement with previous studies on bulk samples. We provide confirmation of high-$T_c$ superconductivity in LaH$_{10\pmδ}$ with highest $T_c$ of 247 K at 176 GPa evidenced in electrical measurements. The characteristic suppression of superconductivity is observed in magnetic fields. Furthermore, combined diffraction and electrical measurements reveal remarkable temporal stability of both the crystal structure and the high-$T_c$ superconductivity over the full measurement period of about 300 days post laser heating. Our work establishes film precursors using physical vapour deposition (PVD) techniques as a practical route to hydride formation, opening a pathway toward the controlled synthesis of promising ternary hydrides and the integration of micro-fabricated device geometries in diamond anvil cells.

Universal electrical resistivity in iron-based high-temperature superconductors

Temperature-dependent electrical resistivity $ρ(T)$ in cuprate, iron-based, and nickelate superconductors represents one of unresolved problems in modern solid-state physics, because of the high absolute value of $ρ(T)$, which, in many cases, exceeds the Ioffe-Rigel criterion, and a large difference in the $ρ(T)$ shape for samples with different doping. Here I show that the nearest neighbors parallel resistivity model (arXiv: 2607.23484) can well describe the in-plane resistivity $ρ_{ab}(T)$ in iron-based superconductors (IBS) of type 11, 111, 122, 1111, 1144 and 42214 in which the spin density wave phase or nematic order is suppressed by doping. The model is based on the postulate that $ρ_{ab}(T)$ is a sum of two parallel conduction channels, where one channel is described by the Bloch-Grüneisen equation and the other by the Arrhenius hopping equation. Consequently, the variety of $ρ_{ab}(T)$ in the IBS is explained as a variation of the Debye temperature $Θ_D$ and the hopping activation energy $E_a$. The derived Debye temperatures were used to estimate the electron-phonon coupling constant $λ_{e-ph}$in the studied IBS.

Rashba-controlled emergence and reversal of critical-field anisotropy in p-wave magnet--superconductor hybrids

We show that tuning Rashba spin-orbit coupling can change the in-plane field direction along which an $s$-wave superconductor is most susceptible to Zeeman depairing. We consider a two-dimensional $s$-wave superconductor subject to an odd-parity exchange field induced by a $p$-wave magnet. Without Rashba coupling, the out-of-plane exchange field enhances the in-plane critical field but leaves its angular response exactly isotropic, despite the anisotropic magnetic spin texture. Minimizing the Bogoliubov--de Gennes grand potential over uniform singlet pairing, we find that increasing Rashba coupling first generates and then reverses the principal-axis critical-field contrast, switching the minimum-critical-field direction by $90^{\circ}$. Equal principal-axis fields at the intervening compensation point coexist with residual angular modulation. We interpret the reversal through competing momentum-dependent depairing contributions from the magnetic and Rashba spin textures, while the on-site singlet pairing channel remains unchanged. Direction-dependent discontinuous collapses of the order parameter further shape the critical-field curves. These results identify a tunable directional paramagnetic response within the uniform-pairing sector. In heterostructures with sufficient electrostatic tunability of interfacial Rashba coupling, this reversal would enable gate control of the easy-depairing axis without reorienting the magnetic texture.
