Characters and Polynomiality for Maximal Parabolic Unipotent Radicals in Finite Classical Groups

Abstract

Characters and Polynomiality for Maximal Parabolic Unipotent Radicals in Finite Classical GroupsLet $q$ be a power of an odd prime. For the unipotent radicals of maximal rational parabolic subgroups of the finite symplectic, orthogonal and unitary groups, we determine all complex irreducible characters, their values, and the number of characters of each degree. Each of these numbers is a polynomial in $q-1$ with nonnegative integer coefficients, in analogy with a conjecture of Isaacs for unitriangular groups. For the orthogonal radicals, the character table and the power maps do not depend on the Witt type of the residual form, whereas the isomorphism type of the radical does when the isotropic dimension is at least three and the residual dimension is positive and even. Consequently, for $3\le a\le n-1$ the radicals of the stabilizers of totally isotropic $a$-spaces in $\SO^+_{2n}(q)$ and $\SO^-_{2n}(q)$ form Brauer pairs; for $a\le n-2$ both stabilizers are maximal parabolic subgroups. Finally, we express the multiplicities through $R$-polynomials, with the unequal parameters $q^2,\dots,q^2,q$ in the unitary case.

Gelfand-Kirillov dimensions and annihilator varieties of highest weight modules of exceptional Lie algebras

Let $L(λ)$ be an irreducible highest weight module of a complex simple Lie algebra of exceptional type, with highest weight $λ-ρ$, where $ρ$ is half the sum of positive roots. Its annihilator variety is the closure of a nilpotent orbit of dimension twice the Gelfand--Kirillov (GK) dimension of $L(λ)$. We develop an explicit algorithm that determines both invariants for any infinitesimal character. The GK dimension is reduced to evaluating Lusztig's $\mathbf{a}$-function on the integral Weyl group of $λ$. After decomposing the integral root system into irreducible factors, classical factors are treated by the Robinson--Schensted insertion algorithm and the H-algorithm, while exceptional factors are handled by positive index reduction and PyCox. The annihilator orbit is then recovered from the local special datum by Springer theory and Sommers duality. An implementation is available online and takes $λ$ as input to compute the GK dimension and annihilator variety of $L(λ)$.

Weights and characters for affine Hecke algebras

Weights play an essential role in the classification of simple modules for affine Hecke algebras. In this paper we show the extent to which weights determine simple modules and relate this to induction and restriction along isogenies. We also describe the behaviour of hermitian duals and unitarity under induction and restriction along isogenies.

Categorification of the genus two DAHA

We construct three derived endofunctors on the derived category of graded integrable representations of the current algebra of a flat degeneration of $D(2|1,α)$, and prove that their classes in the Grothendieck group are the genus two Macdonald operators. Computing the graded $\operatorname{Ext}$ pairing explicitly, we deduce the self-adjointness of the genus two Macdonald operators and the orthogonality of genus $2$ Macdonald polynomials with respect to the certain skew-bilinear form.
