Resonant Multiphoton Conversion Mediated by a Shared Vibration in Cavity QED
Abstract
We show that a vibration shared by two emitter subensembles can jointly establish multiphoton resonance and constructive interference among the virtual exchange pathways responsible for coherent conversion. For opposite displacements with an integer magnitude ratio $r\geq2$, the displacements induced by $r$ excitations in the less displaced subensemble and one in the other cancel exactly, a condition we call displacement neutrality. When the emitter and cavity frequencies match, the resulting composite is resonant with $r+1$ cavity photons, while the vibration-mediated cross interaction makes the conversion pathways add constructively, establishing a direct relation between the displacement ratio and the conversion order. In contrast, independent vibrations can be tuned to the same resonance, but their conversion pathways cancel at leading order, demonstrating that energy resonance alone does not guarantee coherent conversion. For $r=2$, this conversion suppresses three-photon coincidences while leaving the two-photon statistics nearly Poissonian. In the weak-driving limit, interference can also screen the two-photon correlations at all delays from the relative direction of the displacements, whereas the three-photon statistics remain sensitive to it. Because both resonant states leave the vibration undisplaced, their coherence is protected from direct dephasing by the shared vibration, leaving emitter dephasing as the tighter constraint. These results identify relative vibrational displacements as a means of controlling coherent multiphoton conversion and its noise response.
