Measurement-dependent reduction of open dynamics in the quantum phase estimation algorithm: the visible subspace and the damped Fejér kernel

Abstract

For the quantum phase estimation (QPE) algorithm we study the minimal space of observables that is sufficient to predict the entire output distribution under open dynamics of the counting register. Building on the general Krylov theory of reduction, we compute the structure of this space explicitly for the full Fourier measurement. The outcome probabilities are determined by cyclic sums of the state matrix. If the adjoint generator is diagonal on the matrix units, the spectral classes inside the residue classes of the index difference modulo the register dimension $M$ give a constructive basis, an exact dimension formula, and attainable bounds: the dimension of the visible space lies between $M$ and $M^2-M+1$. The class includes independent qubit dephasing, and an analytically solvable reference model of Gorini--Kossakowski--Lindblad--Sudarshan (GKLS) type yields a damped Fejér kernel; two random-unitary channels with the same Ramsey contrast show that higher harmonics are distinguishable in the QPE distribution. For approximate reduction we use a finite-time Gramian and an a posteriori residual estimate, with a quadratic error order for a reducing unperturbed subspace and a compatible initial state. Numerical calculations check the consistency of the representations and the behaviour of the error under non-Toeplitz perturbations.

Ground State Energy of Dilute Fermi Gases in 1D

We study the one-dimensional spin-$J$ Fermi gas, interacting through a general repulsive 2-body potential, and prove asymptotics of the ground state energy in the dilute limit. The asymptotic behaviour is given in terms of the ground state energy of a spin chain, which is the Heisenberg antiferromagnet in the case of spin-1/2 fermions. We determine similar asymptotics for the Lieb-Liniger-Heisenberg model, showing that a product trial state used by Girardeau is not optimal.

Magnetic Hardy inequalities with singular integral weights

In this paper we present Hardy type inequalities for magnetic Dirichlet forms with singular integral weights. We analyze the local and global optimality of the integral weight and discuss several examples in details. An application of our results to spectral estimates for magnetic Schrödinger operators is provided as well.

Perturbative anomalies in quantum mechanics

In this work, we propose a cohomological approach to studying perturbative anomalies in quantum mechanics. The Hamiltonian $\hat{H}$ together with the symmetry generator $\hat{S}$ forms a unitary representation of the two-dimensional Abelian Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}\cong \mathbb{R}^{2}$ on the Hilbert space $V$. We show that perturbations of such a system are related to the first Chevalley-Eilenberg cohomology group $H^{1}_{CE}(\mathbb{R}^{2},\mathfrak{u}(V))$. In turn, the perturbative anomalies of the symmetry $\hat{S}$ are related to the second cohomology group $H^{2}_{CE}(\mathbb{R}^{2},\mathfrak{u}(V))$.
