The Fate of 1/4-BPS States in the D1-D5 CFT

Abstract

We consider the 1/4-BPS operators in the D1-D5 system on AdS$_3\times S^3\times T^4$. We evaluate the anomalous dimensions of low-lying sectors in conformal perturbation theory around Sym$^N(T^4)$ exactly in $N$. All anomalous dimensions are consistent with recombination of the short multiplets into long ones and take a particularly simple form. We show that at finite $N$ and at first nontrivial order in the deformation, for the sectors we consider, the BPS density of states agrees with that of the supergravity point. To the order in conformal perturbation theory we consider, this confirms that not all states that can get lifted do get lifted.

Advances in kappa deformed electrodynamics

The so called $κ$-Minkowski spacetime is a prominent candidate for a quantum gravity space, and its properties have been the subject of investigation over the last thirty years. In this work, we propose classical electrodynamics equations that satisfy the dispersion relation derived from the bicrossproduct approach to the $κ$-Poincaré algebra. We explore the conservation laws, a new gauge symmetry, and the solutions for the scalar and vector potentials under the influence of the deformed parameter. The characteristics of the vacuum as a material medium are shown in terms of the refractive index and the group and phase velocities. The Green's functions associated with the wave operator in the bicrossproduct basis are calculated in both the retarded and advanced prescriptions. Finally, we discuss how the deformation scale affects the causality of the theory.

Trace Relations and Partition Functions

In general trace relations appear in finite $N$ matrix models and collective field theories. They lead, as was established previously, to reductions of large $N$ Hilbert spaces. Even more importantly they induce the appearance of a whole class of new (miraculous) states whose number grows exponentially in $N^2$. In this work we discuss their relevance to finite $N$ thermodynamics and the role they play in constraining the partition functions of finite $N$ theories.

The heterotic superpotential and the alpha' expansion

We study the role of the Hull connection in the heterotic superpotential for N=1 d=4 vacua. The integrand is defined in terms of H, which is in turn defined in terms of a gravitational Chern--Simons coupling involving H. We show this recursive structure is key to W reproducing some of the ten--dimensional supersymmetry conditions written down by Bergshoeff--de Roo through α'^3. With this evidence in hand we make some observations about extending some of the tensor equations of Hull and Strominger to all orders in α'.
