Large number of hyperbolic and periodic solutions of sine-Gordon equation with nontrivial time dependence

Abstract

By using suitable ansatz which reduces the problem of obtaining exact solutions of the sine-Gordon equation with nontrivial time dependence to obtaining exact solutions of two first order symmetric $ϕ^4$-like coupled equations in $x$ and $t$, we obtain a large number of hyperbolic and periodic solutions of the sine-Gordon equation. In particular, we not only obtain the well-known two-soliton, soliton-antisoliton and the breather solutions but also obtain periodic two-soliton, periodic soliton-antisoliton as well as periodic breather solutions. Besides, we also obtain superposed real and complex (parity-time reversal or) $\mathcal{PT}$-invariant solutions related to the two-soliton, soliton-antisoliton and the breather solutions of the sine-Gordon equation.

Spectral Oscillations and Temporal Meandering of Dissipative Solitons in a Moving Intracavity Phase Potential

Dissipative solitons (DSs) provide a prototypical platform for studying nonequilibrium dynamics governed by the interplay between nonlinearity, dissipation, and external driving. In particular, subjected to external potentials, DSs exhibit a rich variety of nonlinear dynamical behaviors. This work investigates DS dynamics in a moving intracavity potential generated by phase modulation whose frequency is detuned from an integer multiple of the cavity repetition rate. Modulation detuning introduces a timescale mismatch between the DS and the moving potential, leading to two distinct dynamical regimes. At large detuning, the DS cannot continuously track the moving potential and exhibits persistent spectral oscillations and temporal meandering, whereas at sufficiently small detuning it enters a synchronized locking state. Furthermore, both the oscillation period and amplitude can be tuned via the modulation detuning and modulation depth. These results reveal how asynchronous driving reshapes DS dynamics and establish a route for controlling their dynamical response in nonlinear optical cavities.

Bright Solitons in Non-Hermitian systems: Exploring the interplay of $\mathcal{PT}$ Symmetry and Wadati Structure

In this study, we revisit the subject of optical solitons in non-Hermitian potentials. For the underlying model of the focusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation with a complex localized potential, we offer a classification of such models into four canonical cases. These correspond to (a) $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetric Wadati potentials, (b) $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetric non-Wadati potentials, (c) Non-$\mathcal{PT}$ but Wadati potentials, and (d) complex potentials with neither $\mathcal{PT}$ nor Wadati symmetries. We study the existence and stability of optical solitons across prototypical model variations spanning all four relevant quadrants. We complement such an investigation with a low-dimensional effective description based on a non-conservative variational approximation method. The variational framework is assessed in terms of its ability to represent the structural properties and bifurcations of solutions. {Our results suggest that continuous families of bright solitons persist across sectors (a)--(c). For non-$\mathcal{PT}$-symmetric potentials, small departures from the Wadati limit, corresponding to sector (d), suggest the loss of continuous families of bright-solitons including, more specifically, the possibility of the generic absence of single-humped localized states. The corresponding variational analysis is broadly consistent with these observations. We also highlight the usefulness and limitations for such variational approaches in describing bright solitons in the presence of non-Hermitian potentials.

Soliton gas resolution and statistics of random wave fields in semiclassical integrable turbulence

We develop a general analytical framework for determining the probability distribution of random nonlinear wave fields governed by the focusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation (fNLSE) in regimes where typical realizations are dominated by solitons. We formulate the soliton gas resolution conjecture for the long-time evolution of slowly varying ("semiclassical") random initial states and implement a stochastic analogue of the inverse scattering transform by establishing a relationship between the spectral density of states of the underlying bound state soliton gas and the probability density function (PDF) of the intensity of the resulting turbulent wave field. The derived explicit integral representation for the PDF is shown to be in excellent agreement with direct numerical simulations across several representative examples of fNLSE integrable turbulence. The analytical results of the paper are exact; they do not involve any closure assumptions, in contrast to classical turbulence theories. The results have broad applicability to physical systems including water waves, nonlinear optics, and superfluids, where integrable equations serve as important asymptotic models.
