A non-perturbative calculation of the mass of the Bc

Abstract

We present a calculation of the mass of the 1S0 pseudoscalar anti-b c (Bc) state using a non-perturbative measurement from quenched lattice QCD. We find M_Bc = 6.386(9)(98)(15) GeV where the first error is statistical, the second systematic due to the quark mass ambiguities and quenching and the third the systematic error due to the estimation of mass of the eta_b.

Sequential Autoregressive Block Metropolis--Hastings for Two-Dimensional $ϕ^4$ Lattice Fields

We construct a Metropolis-corrected sequential autoregressive block update for continuous lattice fields. A variational autoregressive network (VAN) regenerates the sites of an ordered geometric block, and the Hastings ratio uses forward generation and reverse restoration probabilities evaluated along their respective partial configurations. We apply the update to the two-dimensional $ϕ^4$ theory at $L=6$, $8$, and $10$, comparing learned single-site, finite-block, and global proposals. For each trained VAN, the autocorrelation of $|M|$, measured per sweep, varies nonmonotonically with block size: intermediate blocks yield smaller point estimates of $τ_{\rm int}(|M|)$ than the learned single-site update, while larger finite blocks have lower acceptance. When networks trained at $κ=0.270$ are applied without retraining to a target at $κ=0.273$, finite-block acceptances change little, whereas the global-proposal acceptance decreases and its estimated $τ_{\rm int}(|M|)$ increases, with the strongest degradation at $L=10$.

Thermal axion production in QCD from the lattice

Thermal axion production in the early Universe is controlled by the QCD topological-charge-density spectral function evaluated on the light-cone as a function of momentum k. We show how weighted integrals of this quantity can be computed using Euclidean lattice QCD without any analytic continuation, similar to what Harvey Meyer and collaborators have recently done for the photon production rate. We then test the approach in pure-glue QCD at T=1.5 Tc, finding that it is feasible to extract at least one and possibly two finite weighted k-integrals of the k-dependent production rate. This opens the possibility for extractions in full QCD at temperatures around and somewhat above the crossover temperature, where other methods are not reliable.

On credit attribution and research software: A case study from lattice QCD

Questions of authorship, credit attribution, and the recognition of research software contributions have become increasingly prominent in continually expanding research areas in which software constitutes an essential part of the research process. While general guidelines and best practices exist, their application in concrete situations often raises nontrivial interpretative and procedural issues. This article presents a documented case study from lattice QCD research in which the author was directly involved, illustrating how the development of numerical strategies, long-term software infrastructure, and conceptual extensions of existing work can give rise to complex questions of authorship, priority, and credit attribution. Rather than discussing the underlying scientific results, the focus is on the sequence of events, the role of software as long-term research infrastructure, and the interaction with established mechanisms for credit attribution and research integrity assessment. The aim of this work is to contribute to transparency and discussion on how current practices and guidelines are applied in realistic collaborative environments, and to highlight structural tensions that may arise between open scientific collaboration, software sustainability, and traditional notions of authorship. The article is intended as a factual account and reflection on research practice, and aims to stimulate discussion on whether additional community standards for recognising long-term research software contributions may be beneficial within lattice QCD.
