Functoriality of logarithmic Hochschild homology of log smooth pairs

The construction of a satisfactory dg category of logarithmic coherent sheaves remains a central open problem in logarithmic geometry. In this paper, we propose an alternative correspondence-theoretic approach based on logarithmic Fourier--Mukai transforms. For smooth proper log pairs, we introduce strong log Fourier--Mukai kernels supported on canonical blow-up compactifications and prove that logarithmic Hochschild homology is functorial with respect to the induced transforms. Unlike the classical setting, logarithmic correspondences do not naturally live on ordinary products, and the standard adjunction formalism fails because of blow-up discrepancies. We overcome these difficulties by constructing explicit unit- and counit-type morphisms that provide the necessary adjunction data without requiring an ambient dg category of logarithmic sheaves. As applications, we construct a dg bicategory of logarithmic correspondences in which logarithmic Hochschild homology and cohomology become categorical invariants. We also define logarithmic Chern characters and a logarithmic Euler pairing compatible with the logarithmic Fourier--Mukai formalism.

The Heisenberg algebra of a vector space and Hochschild homology

For any noncommutative smooth and proper variety we construct three actions of the Heisenberg algebra on the total Hochschild homology of its symmetric quotient stacks. One is defined algebraically using the orbifold decomposition of Hochschild homology. One decategorifies the 2-categorical Heisenberg action of Gyenge-Koppensteiner-Logvinenko. One is defined representation theoretically via explicit operators intrinsic to the symmetric quotient stacks. We then show all three to coincide, and thus give alternative descriptions of one natural action. For ordinary commutative varities, we give a fourth, geometrical description by correspondences similar to those used by Grojnowski and Nakajima for the Hilbert schemes of points on surfaces.

Slicing up multigraded linear series

Multigraded linear series generalize the classical morphism to the linear series of a basepoint-free line bundle on a scheme. We investigate the collection of the natural cornering morphisms into elementary bigraded linear series obtained from direct summands of the original globally generated vector bundle. Our main result is a condition on the injectivity of the product morphism. We apply our result in two examples: modules over the reconstruction algebra and equivariant Hilbert and Quot schemes of quotient stacks.

The Heisenberg category of a category

Starting with a k-linear or DG category admitting a (homotopy) Serre functor, we construct a k-linear or DG 2-category categorifying the Heisenberg algebra of the numerical K-group of the original category. We also define a 2-categorical analogue of the Fock space representation of the Heisenberg algebra. Our construction generalises and unifies various categorical Heisenberg algebra actions appearing in the literature. In particular, we give a full categorical enhancement of the action on derived categories of symmetric quotient stacks introduced by Krug, which itself categorifies a Heisenberg algebra action proposed by Grojnowski.

The quantum D-module of product varieties

We study the quantum connection of product varieties in the framework of quantum cohomology. Our first main result shows that, near the origin of the Novikov variables, the quantum spectrum of \(X \times Y\) converges to the set of pairwise sums of the spectra of \(X\) and \(Y\). This arises from the leading contribution of the connection matrices \(K_X \otimes \mathrm{id}\) and \(\mathrm{id} \otimes K_Y\), while mixed curve classes contribute only at higher order. Our second main result establishes a formal isomorphism of quantum \(D\)-modules $ \mathrm{QDM}(X \times Y)^{\mathrm{la}} \cong \mathrm{QDM}(X)^{\mathrm{la}} \otimes \mathrm{QDM}(Y)^{\mathrm{la}}$, compatible with the quantum connection. As applications, we show that atoms, birational invariants arising from quantum cohomology, factor multiplicatively for product varieties, and we deduce the existence of a motivic measure associated with atoms.

Noncommutative projective partial resolutions and quiver varieties

Let $Γ\in \mathrm{SL}_2(\mathbb{C})$ be a finite subgroup. We introduce a class of projective noncommutative surfaces $\mathbb{P}^2_I$, indexed by a set of irreducible $Γ$-representations. Extending the action of $Γ$ from $\mathbb{C}^2$ to $\mathbb{P}^2$, we show that these surfaces generalise both $[\mathbb{P}^2/Γ]$ and $\mathbb{P}^2/Γ$. We prove that isomorphism classes of framed torsion-free sheaves on any $\mathbb{P}^2_I$ carry a canonical bijection to the closed points of appropriate Nakajima quiver varieties. In particular, we provide geometric interpretations for a class of Nakajima quiver varieties using noncommutative geometry. Our results partially generalise several previous results on such quiver varieties.

Blow-ups and the quantum spectrum of surfaces

We investigate the behaviour of the spectrum of the quantum (or Dubrovin) connection of smooth projective surfaces under blow-ups. Our main result is that for small values of the parameters, the quantum spectrum of such a surface is asymptotically the union of the quantum spectrum of a minimal model of the surface and a finite number of additional points located "close to infinity", that correspond bijectively to the exceptional divisors. This proves a conjecture of Kontsevich in the surface case.

Euler characteristics of affine ADE Nakajima quiver varieties via collapsing fibers

We prove a universal substitution formula that compares generating series of Euler characteristics of Nakajima quiver varieties associated with affine ADE diagrams at generic and at certain nongeneric stability conditions via a study of collapsing fibres in the associated variation of GIT map, unifying and generalising earlier results of the last two authors with Némethi and of Nakajima. As a special case, we compute generating series of Euler characteristics of noncommutative Quot schemes of Kleinian orbifolds. In type A and rank 1, we give a second, combinatorial proof of our substitution formula, using torus localisation and partition enumeration. This gives a combinatorial model of the fibers of the variation of GIT map, and also leads to relations between our results and the representation theory of the affine and finite Lie algebras in type A.

A power structure over the Grothendieck ring of geometric dg categories

We prove the existence of a power structure over the Grothendieck ring of geometric dg categories. We show that a conjecture by Galkin and Shinder (proved recently by Bergh, Gorchinskiy, Larsen, and Lunts) relating the motivic and categorical zeta functions of varieties can be reformulated as a compatibility between the motivic and categorical power structures. Using our power structure we show that the categorical zeta function of a geometric dg category can be expressed as a power with exponent the category itself. We give applications of our results for the generating series associated with Hilbert schemes of points, categorical Adams operations, and series with exponent a linear algebraic group.

On a sequence of Grothendieck groups

We show that a well-known exact sequence in K-theory for quotients of triangulated categories descends to numerical K-groups provided that the category, the quotient and the category we take the quotient with has a numerical K-group, and if either the quotient functor preserves compactness or the K-group of the quotient is torsion-free.

Kleinian singularities: some geometry, combinatorics and representation theory

We review the relationship between discrete groups of symmetries of Euclidean three-space, constructions in algebraic geometry around Kleinian singularities including versions of Hilbert and Quot schemes, and their relationship to finite-dimensional and affine Lie algebras via the McKay correspondence. We focus on combinatorial aspects, such as the enumeration of certain types of partition-like objects, reviewing in particular a recently developed root-of-unity-substitution calculus. While the most complete results are in type A, we also develop aspects of the theory in type D, and end with some questions about the exceptional type E cases.

Fixed point counts and motivic invariants of bow varieties of affine type A

We compute the equivariant K-theory of torus fixed points of Cherkis bow varieties of affine type A. We deduce formulas for the generating series of the Euler numbers of these varieties and observe their modularity in certain cases. We also obtain refined formulas on the motivic level for a class of bow varieties strictly containing Nakajima quiver varieties. These series hence generalise results of Nakajima-Yoshioka. As a special case, we obtain formulas for certain Zastava spaces. We define a parabolic analogue of Nekrasov's partition function and find an equation relating it to the classical partition function.

$G$-fixed Hilbert schemes on $K3$ surfaces, modular forms, and eta products

Let $X$ be a complex $K3$ surface with an effective action of a group $G$ which preserves the holomorphic symplectic form. Let $$ Z_{X,G}(q) = \sum_{n=0}^{\infty} e\left(\operatorname{Hilb}^{n}(X)^{G} \right)\, q^{n-1} $$ be the generating function for the Euler characteristics of the Hilbert schemes of $G$-invariant length $n$ subschemes. We show that its reciprocal, $Z_{X,G}(q)^{-1}$ is the Fourier expansion of a modular cusp form of weight $\frac{1}{2} e(X/G)$ for the congruence subgroup $Γ_{0}(|G|)$. We give an explicit formula for $Z_{X,G}$ in terms of the Dedekind eta function for all 82 possible $(X,G)$. The key intermediate result we prove is of independent interest: it establishes an eta product identity for a certain shifted theta function of the root lattice of a simply laced root system. We extend our results to various refinements of the Euler characteristic, namely the Elliptic genus, the Chi-$y$ genus, and the motivic class.

Quot schemes for Kleinian orbifolds

For a finite subgroup $Γ\subset {\mathrm{SL}}(2,\mathbb{C})$, we identify fine moduli spaces of certain cornered quiver algebras, defined in earlier work, with orbifold Quot schemes for the Kleinian orbifold $[\mathbb{C}^2/Γ]$. We also describe the reduced schemes underlying these Quot schemes as Nakajima quiver varieties for the framed McKay quiver of $Γ$, taken at specific non-generic stability parameters. These schemes are therefore irreducible, normal and admit symplectic resolutions. Our results generalise our previous work on the Hilbert scheme of points on $\mathbb{C}^2/Γ$; we present arguments that completely bypass the ADE classification.

Hilbert schemes of points on some classes of surface singularities

We study the geometry and topology of Hilbert schemes of points on the orbifold surface [C^2/G], respectively the singular quotient surface C^2/G, where G is a finite subgroup of SL(2,C) of type A or D. We give a decomposition of the (equivariant) Hilbert scheme of the orbifold into affine space strata indexed by a certain combinatorial set, the set of Young walls. The generating series of Euler characteristics of Hilbert schemes of points of the singular surface of type A or D is computed in terms of an explicit formula involving a specialized character of the basic representation of the corresponding affine Lie algebra; we conjecture that the same result holds also in type E. Our results are consistent with known results for type A, and are new for type D. The crystal basis theory of the fundamental representation of the affine Lie algebra corresponding to the surface singularity (via the McKay correspondence) plays an important role in our approach. The result gives a generalization of Göttsche's formula and has interesting modular properties related to the S-duality conjecture. The moduli space of torsion free sheaves on surfaces are higher rank analogs of the Hilbert schemes. In type A our results reveal their Euler characteristic generating function as well. Another very interesting class of normal surface singularities is the so-called cyclic quotient singularities of type (p,1). As an outlook we also obtain some results about the associated generating functions.

Rigid ideal sheaves and modular forms

Let $X$ be a complex smooth quasi-projective surface acted upon by a finite group $G$ such that the quotient $X/G$ has singularities only of ADE type. We obtain an explicit expression for the generating series of the Euler characteristics of the zero-dimensional components in the moduli space of zero-dimensional subschemes on $X$ invariant under the action of $G$. We show that this generating series (up to a suitable rational power of the formal variable) is a holomorphic modular form.

Punctual Hilbert schemes for Kleinian singularities as quiver varieties

For a finite subgroup $Γ\subset \mathrm{SL}(2,\mathbb{C})$ and $n\geq 1$, we construct the (reduced scheme underlying the) Hilbert scheme of $n$ points on the Kleinian singularity $\mathbb{C}^2/Γ$ as a Nakajima quiver variety for the framed McKay quiver of $Γ$, taken at a specific non-generic stability parameter. We deduce that this Hilbert scheme is irreducible (a result previously due to Zheng), normal, and admits a unique symplectic resolution. More generally, we introduce a class of algebras obtained from the preprojective algebra of the framed McKay quiver by a process called cornering, and we show that fine moduli spaces of cyclic modules over these new algebras are isomorphic to quiver varieties for the framed McKay quiver and certain non-generic choices of stability parameter.

Young walls and equivariant Hilbert schemes of points in type D

We give a combinatorial proof for a multivariable formula of the generating series of type D Young walls. Based on this we give a motivic refinement of a formula for the generating series of Euler characteristics of Hilbert schemes of points on the orbifold surface of type D.
