Quantum Coherent Route to Bath Induced Entanglement

The micromaser is an archetype experimental setting where a beam of excited two-level atoms is injected into a high-finesse cavity. It has played a pivotal role as a testbed for predictions of quantum optics. We consider a generalized micromaser setting consisting of high-quality cavity pumped by a beam of three-level atoms. The atoms are assumed to be prepared to carry quantum coherence between their excited state doublet. Our objective is to produce quantum entanglement between the right-handed circular (RHC) and left-handed circular (LHC) polarized photons in the cavity, exploiting the quantum coherence in the pump atoms. For that aim, we derive the generalized micromaser master equation for our system. We find that the dynamics of the micromaser field driven by the pump beam is equivalent to two non-interacting RHC and LHC photonis systems sharing a common non-equilibrium environment. The effect of the shared bath is to mediate an incoherent interaction between the otherwise non-interacting cavity photons, which emerges only if the atoms carry quantum coherence. We take into account cavity losses as a source of quantum decoherence and characterize the quantum entanglement between the LHC and RHC polarized photons in terms of logarithmic negativity, calculated using the dynamical solution of the master equation. Our reseults reveal that while there is no steady-state entanglement, LHC and RHC polarzied photons can be entangled in the transient regime.

Tunable multiwindow magnomechanically induced transparency, Fano resonances, and slow-to-fast light conversion

We investigate the absorption and transmission properties of a weak probe field under the influence of a strong control field in a hybrid cavity magnomechanical system in the microwave regime. This hybrid system consists of two ferromagnetic material yttrium iron garnet (YIG) spheres strongly coupled to a single cavity mode. In addition to two magnon-induced transparency (MIT) that arise due to strong photon-magnon interactions, we observe a magnomechanically induced transparency (MMIT) due to the presence of nonlinear phonon-magnon interaction. In addition, we discuss the emergence and tunability of the multiple Fano resonances in our system. We find that due to strong photon-magnon coupling the group delay of the probe field can be enhanced significantly. The subluminal or superluminal propagation depends on the frequency of the magnons, which can be easily tuned by an external bias magnetic field. Besides, the group delay of the transmitted field can also be controlled with the control field power.

Superradiant Quantum Heat Engine

Quantum physics revolutionized classical disciplines of mechanics, statistical physics, and electrodynamics. One branch of scientific knowledge however seems untouched: thermodynamics. Major motivation behind thermodynamics is to develop efficient heat engines. Technology has a trend to miniaturize engines, reaching to quantum regimes. Development of quantum heat engines (QHEs) requires emerging field of quantum thermodynamics. Studies of QHEs debate whether quantum coherence can be used as a resource. We explore an alternative where it can function as an effective catalyst. We propose a QHE which consists of a photon gas inside an optical cavity as the working fluid and quantum coherent atomic clusters as the fuel. Utilizing the superradiance, where a cluster can radiate quadratically faster than a single atom, we show that the work output becomes proportional to the square of the number of the atoms. In addition to practical value of cranking up QHE, our result is a fundamental difference of a quantum fuel from its classical counterpart.

Spin squeezing, entanglement and coherence in two driven, dissipative, nonlinear cavities coupled with single and two-photon exchange

We investigate spin squeezing, quantum entanglement and second order coherence in two coupled, driven, dissipative, nonlinear cavities. We compare these quantum statistical properties for the cavities coupled with either single or two-photon exchange. Solving the quantum optical master equation of the system numerically in the steady state, we calculate the zero-time delay second-order correlation function for the coherence, genuine two-mode entanglement parameter, and an optimal spin squeezing inequality associated with particle entanglement. We identify regimes of distinct quantum statistical character depending on the relative strength of photon-exchange and nonlinearity. Moreover, we examine the effects of weak and strong drives on these quantum statistical regimes.

Discrete time quantum walk with nitrogen-vacancy centers in diamond coupled to a superconducting flux qubit

We propose a quantum-electrodynamics scheme for implementing the discrete-time, coined quantum walk with the walker corresponding to the phase degree of freedom for a quasi-magnon field realized in an ensemble of nitrogen-vacancy centres in diamond. The coin is realized as a superconducting flux qubit. Our scheme improves on an existing proposal for implementing quantum walks in cavity quantum electrodynamics by removing the cumbersome requirement of varying drive-pulse durations according to mean quasiparticle number. Our improvement is relevant to all indirect-coin-flip cavity quantum-electrodynamics realizations of quantum walks. Our numerical analysis shows that this scheme can realize a discrete quantum walk under realistic conditions.
