A uniqueness result for 3D incompressible fluid-rigid body interaction problem

We study a 3D nonlinear moving boundary fluid-structure interaction problem describing the interaction of the fluid flow with a rigid body. The fluid flow is governed by 3D incompressible Navier-Stokes equations, while the motion of the rigid body is described by a system of ordinary differential equations called Euler equations for the rigid body. The equations are fully coupled via dynamical and kinematic coupling conditions. We consider two different kinds of kinematic coupling conditions: no-slip and slip. In both cases we prove a generalization of the well-known weak-strong uniqueness result for the Navier-Stokes equations to the fluid-rigid body system. More precisely, we prove that weak solutions that additionally satisfy Prodi-Serrin $L^r-L^s$ condition are unique in the class of Leray-Hopf weak solutions.

On the vanishing rigid body problem in a viscous compressible fluid

In this paper we study the interaction of a small rigid body in a viscous compressible fluid. The system occupies a bounded three dimensional domain. The object it allowed to freely move and its dynamics follows the Newton's laws. We show that as the size of the object converges to zero the system fluid plus rigid body converges to the compressible Navier-Stokes system under some mild lower bound on the mass and the inertia momentum. It is a first result of homogenization in the case of fluid-structure interaction in the compressible situation. As a corollary we slightly improved the result on the influence of a vanishing obstacle in a compressible fluid for $ γ\geq 6$ .

Measure-valued solutions and weak-strong uniqueness for the incompressible inviscid fluid-rigid body interaction

We consider a coupled system of partial and ordinary differential equations describing the interaction between an isentropic inviscid fluid and a rigid body moving freely inside the fluid. We prove the existence of measure-valued solutions which is generated by the vanishing viscosity limit of incompressible fluid-rigid body interaction system under some physically constitutive relations. Moreover, we show that the measure-value solution coincides with strong solution on the interval of its existence. This relies on the weak-strong uniqueness analysis.

The global existence issue for the compressible Euler system with Poisson or Helmholtz couplings

We consider the Cauchy problem for the barotropic Euler system coupled to Helmholtz or Poisson equations, in the whole space. We assume that the initial density is small enough, and that the initial velocity is close to some reference vector field u0 such that the spectrum of Du0 is bounded away from zero. We prove the existence of a global unique solution with (fractional) Sobolev regularity, and algebraic time decay estimates. Our work extends the papers by D. Serre and M. Grassin [20, 21, 43] dedicated to the compressible Euler system without coupling and integer regularity exponents.

On weak solutions to the problem of a rigid body with a cavity filled with a compressible fluid, and their asymptotic behavior

We prove the existence of a weak solution to the equations describing the inertial motions of a coupled system constituted by a rigid body containing a viscous compressible fluid. We then provide a weak-strong uniqueness result that allows us to completely characterize, under certain physical assumptions, the asymptotic behavior in time of the weak solution corresponding to smooth data of restricted "size" and show that it tends to a uniquely determined steady-state.

Low stratification of a heat-conducting fluid in time-dependent domain

We study the low Mach number limit of the full Navier-Stokes-Fourier system in the case of low stratification with ill-prepared initial data for the problem stated on moving domain with prescribed motion of the boundary. Similarly as in the case of a fixed domain we recover as a limit the Oberback-Boussinesq system, however we identify one additional term in the temperature equation of the limit system which is related to the motion of the domain and which is not present in the case of a fixed domain. One of the main ingredients in the proof are the properties of the Helmholtz decomposition on moving domains and the dependence of eigenvalues and eigenspaces of the Neumann Laplace operator on time.

Local existence of strong solutions and weak-strong uniqueness for the compressible Navier-Stokes system on moving domains

We consider the compressible Navier-Stokes system on time-dependent domains with prescribed motion of the boundary. For both the no-slip boundary conditions as well as slip boundary conditions we prove local-in-time existence of strong solutions. These results are obtained using a transformation of the problem to a fixed domain and an existence theorem for Navier-Stokes like systems with lower order terms and perturbed boundary conditions. We also show the weak-strong uniqueness principle for slip boundary conditions which remained so far open question.

On the Motion of a Body with a Cavity Filled with Compressible Fluid

We study the motion of the system, S, constituted by a rigid body, B, containing in its interior a viscous compressible fluid, and moving in absence of external forces. Our main objective is to characterize the long time behavior of the coupled system body-fluid. Under suitable assumptions on the "mass distribution" of S, and for sufficiently "small" Mach number and initial data, we show that every corresponding motion (in a suitable regularity class) must tend to a steady state where the fluid is at rest with respect to B. Moreover, S, as a whole, performs a uniform rotation around an axis parallel to the (constant) angular momentum of S, and passing through its center of mass.

On the low Mach number limit of compressible flows in exterior moving domains

We study the incompressible limit of solutions to the compressible barotropic Navier-Stokes system in the exterior of a bounded domain undergoing a simple translation. The problem is reformulated using a change of coordinates to fixed exterior domain. Using the spectral analysis of the wave propagator, the dispersion of acoustic waves is proved by the means of the RAGE theorem. The solution to the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations is identified as a limit.
