Propagation of cosmic ray electrons in the Galaxy

We have made a new calculation of the cosmic ray electron spectrum using an anomalous diffusion model to describe the propagation of electrons in the Galaxy. The parameters defining the anomalous diffusion have been recently determined from the study of nuclei propagation. The predicted electron spectrum is in a good agreement with the measurements. The source spectral index, found from experimental data, in this approach turns out to be equal to 2.95.

Fractional diffusion of cosmic rays

We consider the propagation of galactic cosmic rays under assumption that the interstellar medium is a fractal one. An anomalous diffusion equation in terms of fractional derivatives is used to describe of cosmic ray propagation. The anomaly in used model results from large free paths ("Levy flights") of particles between galactic inhomogeneities and long time a particle stays in a trap. An asymptotical solution of the anomalous diffusion equation for point instantaneous and impulse sources with inverse power spectrum relating to supernova bursts is found. It covers both subdiffusive and superdiffusive regimes and is expressed in terms of the stable distributions. The energy dependence of spectral exponent of observed particles in different regimes is discussed.

Mean Square Radius of EAS Electrons

Detailed theoretical study of the mean square radius of extensive air shower electrons has been made in connection with further development of scaling formalism for electron lateral distribution function. A very simple approximation formula, which allows joint description of all our results obtained in wide primary energy range and for different observation depths is presented. The sensitivity of the mean square radius to variations of basic parameters of hadronic interaction model is discussed.

The Shape of EAS Lateral Distribution and Primary Composition of the UHE Cosmic Rays

Theoretical predictions for lateral distribution function of electrons in extensive air showers based on scaling formalism are presented. Our results are tested by comparison with AGASA experimental data taking into account the contribution of low-energy muons and simultaneously the effect of scintillation detectors response, according to recent simulation results. The possibility for ultrahigh energy cosmic ray primary composition deduction from the shape of LDF is discussed in detail.
