1D YIG hole-based magnonic nanocrystal

Magnetic media with artificial periodic modulation-magnonic crystals (MCs) - enable tunable spin-wave dynamics and band structure engineering. Nanoscaling enhances these capabilities, making magnonic nanocrystals promising for both fundamental studies and applications. Here, we report on the design, fabrication, and characterization of one-dimensional YIG MCs with nanoholes ($d \approx $ 150 nm) spaced $a \approx 1 μ$m apart. Micro-focused Brillouin light scattering and propagating spin-wave spectroscopy, supported by TetraX and MuMax$^3$ simulations, reveal spin-wave transmission over 5 $μ$m in the Damon-Eshbach configuration, and the formation of pronounced band gaps with rejection levels up to 26 dB. Detailed analysis of the spin-wave dispersion uncovered complex mode interactions, including two prominent anticrossings at 3.1 and 18.7 rad/$μ$m, between which the spin-wave energy is predominantly carried by the $n$ = 2 mode, enabling efficient transmission. The results advance the development of functional MCs and open pathways toward 2D magnonic nanoarrays and magnonic RF nanodevices.

Birefringence-mediated enhancement of the magneto-optical activity in anisotropic magnetic crystals

Optical anisotropy is usually treated as an unfavorable condition for the magneto-optical measurements since it is known to diminish the Faraday rotation concerning the case of the isotropic medium. Here we show that the situation could be quite opposite: a phenomenon of birefringence mediated enhancement of the magneto-optical activity appears if the incident light polarization and angle of incidence are set properly. The present study relies on the experimental, analytical, and numerical studies of iron borate $\mathrm{FeBO_3}$ crystals. We demonstrate a significant increase of the magneto-optical activity resulting in nearly $100\%$ magneto-optical light modulation magnitude. The approach applies to other types of birefringent crystals with the magneto-optical response that makes it crucial for various practical applications, including magneto-optical microscopy, pump-probe studies, and others.

Optical excitation and probing of the antiferromagnetic modes with non-uniform in-depth distribution in birefringent antiferromagnetic crystals

Optical pump-probe setups are commonly used for excitation and investigation of the spin dynamics in various types of magnetic materials. However, usually the spatially homogeneous excitation is considered. In the present study we describe an approach for optical excitation of the nonuniform THz spin dynamics and for probing its spatial distribution inside a magnetic crystal. We propose to illuminate a crystal with laser pulses of properly adjusted polarization to benefit from a strong optical birefringence inherent to the crystal. It results in an unusual behavior of the effective magnetic field generated by the pulses due to the inverse Faraday effect and the peculiar sign-changing dependence of the direct Faraday effect inside the crystal. The study is performed exemplary for yttrium orthoferrite crystal although the proposed approach is applicable for various magnetic materials with optical anisotropy.

Graph homology: Koszul and Verdier duality

We show that Verdier duality for certain sheaves on the moduli spaces of graphs associated to Koszul operads corresponds to Koszul duality of operads. This in particular gives a conceptual explanation of the appearance of graph cohomology of both the commutative and Lie types in computations of the cohomology of the outer automorphism group of a free group. Another consequence is an explicit computation of dualizing sheaves on spaces of metric graphs, thus characterizing to which extent these spaces are different from oriented orbifolds. We also provide a relation between the cohomology of the space of metric ribbon graphs, known to be homotopy equivalent to the moduli space of Riemann surfaces, and the cohomology of a certain sheaf on the space of usual metric graphs.

On Kontsevich's Hochschild cohomology conjecture

Let an n-algebra mean an algebra over the chain complex of the little n-cubes operad. We give a proof of Kontsevich's conjecture, which states that for a suitable notion of Hochschild cohomology in the category of n-algebras, the Hochschild cohomology complex of an n-algebra is an (n+1)-algebra. This generalizes a conjecture by Deligne for n=1, now proven by several authors.

Cohomology and Deformation of Leibniz Pairs

Cohomology and deformation theories are developed for Poisson algebras starting with the more general concept of a Leibniz pair, namely of an associative algebra $A$ together with a Lie algebra $L$ mapped into the derivations of $A$. A bicomplex (with both Hochschild and Chevalley-Eilenberg cohomologies) is essential.

On operad structures of moduli spaces and string theory

Recent algebraic structures of string theory, including homotopy Lie algebras, gravity algebras and Batalin-Vilkovisky algebras, are deduced from the topology of the moduli spaces of punctured Riemann spheres. The principal reason for these structures to appear is as simple as the following. A conformal field theory is an algebra over the operad of punctured Riemann surfaces, this operad gives rise to certain standard operads governing the three kinds of algebras, and that yields the structures of such algebras on the (physical) state space naturally.

Complex Divisors on Algebraic Curves and Some Applications to String Theory

These are notes of a talk to the International Conference on Algebra in honor of A. I. Mal'tsev, Novosibirsk, USSR, 1989 (to appear in Contemporary Mathematics). The concept of a divisor with complex coefficients on an algebraic curve is introduced. We consider families of complex divisors, or, equivalently, families of invertible sheaves and define Arakelov-type metrics on some invertible sheaves produced from them on the base. We apply this technique to obtain a formula for the measure on the moduli space that gives tachyon correlators in string theory.
