Flares and their echoes can help distinguish photon rings from black holes with space-Earth very long baseline interferometry

Photon rings near the edge of a black hole shadow is supposed to be a unique tool to validate general relativity and provide reliable measurements of principal black hole parameters: spin and mass. Such measurements are possible though only for nearby supermassive black holes (SMBH) with Space-Earth Very Long Baseline Interferometry (S-VLBI) in the submillimeter wavelength range. For subrings to be distinguished S-EVLBI observations with long baselines at the Lagrangian Sun-Earth L2 libration point are needed. However, the average fluxes of nearby SMBH: Sagittarius A$^\ast$ (Sgr A$^\ast$) and M87$^\ast$ -- $F_ν\sim 1$ Jy, are still insufficient to detect the signal from the photon rings with even such long baselines. We argue that only manifestations of flares in the submillimeter waveband in their accretion disks can reveal observable signals from the photon rings with the S-EVLBI at L2. Such observations will become possible within the planned join program of the {\it Event Horizon Telescope} (EHT) and {\it Millimetron Space Observatory} (MSO), and within the planned {\it next generation EHT} (ngEHT) project. Two different observational tests for photons rings are discussed. The first one involves observations of a time series of responds from subsequent subrings as can be seen in a 1D visibility function within the join EHT-MSO configuration, the second one -- measurements of an increase of the angle between subsequent subrings in the 2D VLBI image which can be obtained within the ngEHT project.

PSR B0329+54: Substructure in the scatter-broadened image discovered with RadioAstron on baselines up to 330,000 km

We have resolved the scatter-broadened image of PSR B0329+54 and detected substructure within it. These results are not influenced by any extended structure of a source but instead are directly attributed to the interstellar medium. We obtained these results at 324 MHz with the ground-space interferometer RadioAstron which included the space radio telescope (SRT), ground-based Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope and 64-m Kalyazin Radio Telescope on baseline projections up to 330,000 km in 2013 November 22 and 2014 January 1 to 2. At short 15,000 to 35,000 km ground-space baseline projections the visibility amplitude decreases with baseline length providing a direct measurement of the size of the scattering disk of 4.8$\pm$0.8 mas. At longer baselines no visibility detections from the scattering disk would be expected. However, significant detections were obtained with visibility amplitudes of 3 to 5% of the maximum scattered around a mean and approximately constant up to 330,000 km. These visibilities reflect substructure from scattering in the interstellar medium and offer a new probe of ionized interstellar material. The size of the diffraction spot near Earth is 17,000$\pm$3,000 km. With the assumption of turbulent irregularities in the plasma of the interstellar medium, we estimate that the effective scattering screen is located 0.6$\pm$0.1 of the distance from Earth toward the pulsar.

The axion shield

We investigate the propagation of a charged particle in a spatially constant, but time dependent, pseudoscalar background. Physically this pseudoscalar background could be provided by a relic axion density. The background leads to an explicit breaking of Lorentz invariance; as a consequence the process p-> p gamma is possible and the background acts as a shield against extremely energetic cosmic rays, an effect somewhat similar to the GZK cut-off effect. The effect is model independent and can be computed exactly. The hypothetical detection of the photons radiated via this mechanism would provide an indirect way of verifying the cosmological relevance of axions.

Three-qubit pure-state canonical forms

In this paper we analyze the canonical forms into which any pure three-qubit state can be cast. The minimal forms, i.e. the ones with the minimal number of product states built from local bases, are also presented and lead to a complete classification of pure three-qubit states. This classification is related to the values of the polynomial invariants under local unitary transformations by a one-to-one correspondence.

Generalized Schmidt decomposition and classification of three-quantum-bit states

We prove for any pure three-quantum-bit state the existence of local bases which allow to build a set of five orthogonal product states in terms of which the state can be written in a unique form. This leads to a canonical form which generalizes the two-quantum-bit Schmidt decomposition. It is uniquely characterized by the five entanglement parameters. It leads to a complete classification of the three-quantum-bit states. It shows that the right outcome of an adequate local measurement always erases all entanglement between the other two parties.

Systems with Higher-Order Shape Invariance: Spectral and Algebraic Properties

We study a complex intertwining relation of second order for Schroedinger operators and construct third order symmetry operators for them. A modification of this approach leads to a higher order shape invariance. We analyze with particular attention irreducible second order Darboux transformations which together with the first order act as building blocks. For the third order shape-invariance irreducible Darboux transformations entail only one sequence of equidistant levels while for the reducible case the structure consists of up to three infinite sequences of equidistant levels and, in some cases, singlets or doublets of isolated levels.

Structural Vertices of Extended SU(3)-Chiral Lagrangians in the Large-N_c Approach

The main goal of this paper is to elaborate the model-framework parametrization of effective coupling constants of the extended chiral lagrangian which is suitable for the description of the low-energy matrix elements of vector, axial-vector, scalar and pseudoscalar currents as well as of the matrix elements of the pseudoscalar gluon density. We establish the connection between the structural coupling constants of the phenomenological chiral lagrangian and the coefficients of effective lagrangians obtained in the QCD-bosonization models by means of the derivative expansion. The large-N_c relations for corresponding structural constants are elaborated. On this way we find the new set of OZI rules. In particular, one of them predicts the branching ratio of the decays $ψ' \rightarrow J/ψ+ π$ or $η$.
