Aspects of regular and singular electromagnetic-generalized-quasitopological-gravities black holes in (2+1) dimensions

We investigate quasitopological black holes in $(2+1)$ dimensions in the context of electromagnetic-generalized-quasitopological-gravities (EM-GQT). For three different families of geometries of quasitopological nature, we study the causal structure and their response to a probe scalar field. To linear order, we verify that the scalar field evolves stably, decaying in different towers of quasinormal modes. The studied black holes are either charged geometries (regular and singular) or a regular Bañados-Teitelboim-Zanelli (BTZ)-like black hole, both coming from the EM-GQT theory characterized by nonminimal coupling parameters between gravity and a background scalar field. We calculate the quasinormal modes applying different numerical methods with convergent results between them. The oscillations demonstrate a very peculiar structure for charged black holes: in the intermediate and near extremal cases, a particular scaling arises, similar to that of the rotating BTZ geometry, with the modes being proportional to the distance between horizons. For the single horizon black hole solution, we identify the presence of different quasinormal families by analyzing the features of that spectrum. In all three considered geometries, no instabilities were found.

Holographic Phase Transitions in (2+1)-dimensional black hole spacetimes in NMG

In this work we aim at the question of holographic phase transitions in two dimensional systems with Lifshitz scaling. We consider the gravity side candidate for a dual description as the black hole solution of New Massive Gravity (NMG) with Lifshitz scaling. We discuss the effects due to the Lifshitz scaling in the AGGH (Ayon-Beato-Garbarz-Giribet-Hassaïıne) solution in comparison with the BTZ (Bañados-Teitelboim-Zanelli) black hole. Likewise, we compute the order parameter and it indicates a second order phase transition in a (1+1) dimension Lifshitz boundary.

Dynamical evolution of non-minimally coupled scalar field in spherically symmetric de Sitter spacetimes

We investigate the dynamical behavior of a scalar field non-minimally coupled to Einstein's tensor and Ricci scalar in geometries of asymptotically de Sitter spacetimes. We show that the quasinormal modes remain unaffected if the scalar field is massless and the black hole is electrically chargeless. In the massive case, the coupling of both parameters produces a region of instability in the spacetime determined by the geometry and field parameters. In the Schwarzschild case, every solution for the equations of motion with $\ell>0$ has a range of values of the coupling constant that produces unstable modes. The case $\ell=0$ is the most unstable one, with a threshold value for stability in the coupling. For the charged black hole, the existence of a range of instability in $η$ is strongly related to geometry parameters presenting a region of stability independent of the chosen parameter.

Instability of Reissner-Nordström-AdS black hole under perturbations of a scalar field coupled to Einstein tensor

We study the instability of a Reissner-Nordström-AdS (RNAdS) black hole under perturbations of a massive scalar field coupled to Einstein tensor. Calculating the potential of the scalar perturbations we find that as the strength of the coupling of the scalar to Einstein tensor is increasing, the potential develops a negative well outside the black hole horizon, indicating an instability of the background RNAdS. We then investigate the effect of this coupling on the quasinormal modes. We find that there exists a critical value of the coupling which triggers the instability of the RNAdS. We also find that as the charge of the RNAdS is increased towards its extremal value, the critical value of the derivative coupling is decreased.

Vectorial and spinorial perturbations in Galileon Black Holes: Quasinormal modes, quasiresonant modes and stability

In this work we have considered a model that includes the interaction of gravity and matter fields with Galilean invariance (the so-called derivative coupling) as well as some corresponding black hole type solutions. Quasinormal perturbations of two kinds of matter fields have been computed by different methods. The effect of the derivative coupling in the quasinormal spectrum has been analyzed and evaluated.

Analysis of s-wave, p-wave and d-wave holographic superconductors in Hořava-Lifshitz gravity

In this work, the s-wave, p-wave and d-wave holographic superconductors in the Hořava-Lifshitz gravity are investigated in the probe limit. For the present approach, it is shown that the equations of motion for different wave states in Einstein gravity can be written into a unified form, and condensates take place in all three cases. This scheme is then generalized to Hořava-Lifshitz gravity, and an unified equation for multiple holographic states is obtained. Furthermore, the properties of the condensation and the optical conductivity are studied numerically. It is found that, in the case of Hořava-Lifshitz gravity, it is always possible to find some particular parameters in the corresponding Einstein case where the condensation curves are identical. For fixed scalar field mass $m$, a non-vanishing $α$ becomes the condensation easier than in Einstein gravity for s-wave superconductor. However, the p-wave and d-wave superconductors have $T_c$ greater than s-wave one.

New Electrically Charged Black Hole in Higher Derivative Gravity

In this paper, new electrically charged asymptotically flat black hole solutions are numerically derived in the context of higher derivative gravity. These solutions can be interpreted as generalizations of two different classes of non-charged asymptotically flat spacetimes: Schwarzschild and non-Schwarzschild solutions. Extreme black hole solutions and black holes with negative mass were found.

Scalar Quasinormal Modes of Anti-de Sitter Static Spacetime in Horava-Lifshitz Gravity with $U(1)$ Symmetry

In this paper, we investigate the scalar quasinormal modes of Hořava-Lifshitz theory with $U(1)$ symmetry in static Anti-de Sitter spacetime. The static planar and spherical black hole solutions in lower energy limit are derived in non-projectable Hořava-Lifshitz gravity. The equation of motion of a scalar field is obtained, and is utilized to study the quasinormal modes of massless scalar particles. We find that the effect of Hořava-Lifshitz correction is to increase the quasinormal period as well as to slow down the decay of the oscillation magnitude. Besides, the scalar field could be unstable when the correction becomes too large.

Electromagnetic perturbations in new brane world scenarios

In this work we consider electromagnetic dynamics in Randall-Sundrum branes. It is derived a family of four-dimensional spacetimes compatible with Randall-Sundrum brane worlds, focusing on asymptotic flat backgrounds. Maximal extensions of the solutions are constructed and their causal structures are discussed. These spacetimes include singular, non-singular and extreme black holes. Maxwell's electromagnetic field is introduced and its evolution is studied in an extensive numerical survey. Electromagnetic quasinormal mode spectra are derived and analyzed with time-dependent and high-order WKB methods. Our results indicate that the black holes in the brane are electromagnetically stable.

(Anti-) de Sitter Electrically Charged Black Hole Solutions in Higher-Derivative Gravity

In this paper, static electrically charged black hole solutions with cosmological constant are investigated in an Einstein-Hilbert theory of gravity with additional quadratic curvature terms. Beside the analytic Schwarzschild (Anti-) de Sitter solutions, non-Schwarzschild (Anti-) de Sitter solutions are also obtained numerically by employing the shooting method. The results show that there exist two groups of asymptotically (Anti-) de Sitter spacetimes for both charged and uncharged black holes. In particular, it was found that for uncharged black holes the first group can be reduced to the Schwarzschild (Anti-) de Sitter solution, while the second group is intrinsically different from a Schwarzschild (Anti-) de Sitter solution even when the charge and the cosmological constant become zero.

Regular Phantom Black Hole and Holography: very high temperature superconductors

Holographic superconductors containing a non-minimal derivative coupling for scalar field in a regular phantom plane symmetric black hole have been considered. We show that the parameter of the regular black hole $b$ as well as the non-minimal derivative coupling parameter $η$ affect the formation of the condensate as well as the conductivity in the superconductor. Moreover, $b$ has a critical value in which the critical temperature $T_c$ increases without a bound. We argue that an unlimited critical temperature is an evidence that high $T_c$ superconductor must be related to the absence of a singularity in the bulk in the AdS/CFT context.

Comment on "Quasinormal modes of Schwarzschild anti de Sitter black holes: Electromagnetic and gravitational perturbations"

The quasinormal modes of the electromagnetic and gravitational perturbation on Schwarzschild-AdS black hole calculated by Cardoso and Lemos has been revisited. Although the equations of motion are correct some frequencies calculated previously by the authors are not. We present the new values of quasinormal modes and discuss the possible sources of problems and implications on the conclusions presented.

Exact cosmological solutions of models with an interacting dark sector

In this work we extend the first order formalism for cosmological models that present an interaction between a fermionic and a scalar field. Cosmological exact solutions describing universes filled with interacting dark energy and dark matter have been obtained. Viable cosmological solutions with an early period of decelerated expansion followed by late acceleration have been found, notably one which presents a dark matter component dominating in the past and a dark energy component dominating in the future. In another one, the dark energy alone is the responsible for both periods, similar to a Chaplygin gas case. Exclusively accelerating solutions have also been obtained.

Three dimensional Lifshitz black hole and the Korteweg-de Vries equation

We consider a solution of three dimensional New Massive Gravity with a negative cosmological constant and use the AdS/CTF correspondence to inquire about the equivalent two dimensional model at the boundary. We conclude that there should be a close relation with the Korteweg-de Vries equation.

Duality linking standard and tachyon scalar field cosmologies

In this work we investigate the duality linking standard and tachyon scalar field cosmologies. We determine the transformation between standard and tachyon scalar fields and between their associated potentials, corresponding to the same background evolution. We show that, in general, the duality is broken at a perturbative level, when deviations from a homogeneous and isotropic background are taken into account. However, we find that for slow-rolling fields the duality is still preserved at a linear level. We illustrate our results with specific examples of cosmological relevance, where the correspondence between scalar and tachyon scalar field models can be calculated explicitly.

Analysis of geometries with closed timelike curves

This work deals with the analysis of cylindrically symmetric and stationary space-times $\mathcal{C}_{t}$ with closed timelike curves. The equation of motion describing the evolution of a massive scalar field in a $\mathcal{C}_{t}$ space-time is obtained. A class of space-times with closed timelike curves describing cosmic strings and cylinders is studied in detail. In such space-times, both massive particles as well as photons can reach the non-causal region. Geodesics and closed timelike curves are calculated and investigated. We have observed that massive particles and photons describe, essentially, two kinds of trajectories: confined orbits and scattering states. The analysis of the light cones show us clearly the intersection between future and past inside the non-causal region. Exact solutions for the equation of motion of massive scalar field propagating in cosmic strings and cylinder space-times are presented. Quasinormal modes for the scalar field have been calculated in static and rotating cosmic cylinders. We found unstable modes in the rotating cases. Rotating as well as static cosmic strings, i.e., without regular interior solutions, do not display quasinormal modes for the scalar field. We conclude presenting a conjecture relating closed timelike curves and space-time instability.

Analysis of spherically symmetric black holes in Braneworld models

Research on black holes and their physical proprieties has been active on last 90 years. With the appearance of the String Theory and the Braneworld models as alternative descriptions of our Universe, the interest on black holes, in these context, increased. In this work we studied black holes in Braneworld models. A class of spherically symmetric black holes is investigaded as well its stability under general perturbations. Thermodynamic proprieties and quasi-normal modes are discussed. The black holes studied are the SM (zero mass) and CFM solutions, obtained by Casadio {\it et al.} and Bronnikov {\it et al.}. The geometry of bulk is unknown. However the Campbell-Magaard Theorem guarantees the existence of a 5-dimensional solution in the bulk whose projection on the brane is the class of black holes considered. They are stable under scalar perturbations. Quasi-normal modes were observed in both models. The tail behavior of the perturbations is the same. The entropy upper bound of a body absorved by the black holes studied was calculated. This limit turned out to be independent of the black hole parameters.
