Some exact solutions of the Volterra lattice

We study solutions of the Volterra lattice satisfying the stationary equation for its non-autonomous symmetry. It is shown that the dynamics in $t$ and $n$ are governed by the continuous and discrete Painlevé equations, respectively. The class of initial data leading to regular solutions is described. For the lattice on the half-line, these solutions are expressed in terms of the confluent hypergeometric function. The Hankel transform of the coefficients of the corresponding Taylor series is computed on the basis of the Wronskian representation of the solution.

Volterra chain and Catalan numbers

We consider the Cauchy problem for the Volterra chain with an initial condition equal to 0 in one node and 1 in the others. It is shown that this problem admits an exact solution in terms of the Bessel functions. The Taylor series arising here are related to the exponential generating function for Catalan numbers.

Towards the theory of integrable hyperbolic equations of third order

The examples are considered of integrable hyperbolic equations of third order with two independent variables. In particular, an equation is found which admits as evolutionary symmetries the Krichever--Novikov equation and the modified Landau--Lifshitz system. The problem of choice of dynamical variables for the hyperbolic equations is discussed.

The model equation of soliton theory

We consider an hierarchy of integrable 1+2-dimensional equations related to Lie algebra of the vector fields on the line. The solutions in quadratures are constructed depending on $n$ arbitrary functions of one argument. The most interesting result is the simple equation for the generating function of the hierarchy which defines the dynamics for the negative times and also has applications to the second order spectral problems. A rather general theory of integrable 1+1-dimensional equations can be developed by study of polynomial solutions of this equation under condition of regularity of the corresponding potentials.

Hydrodynamic reductions and solutions of a universal hierarchy

The diagonal hydrodynamic reductions of a hierarchy of integrable hydrodynamic chains are explicitly characterized. Their compatibility with previously introduced reductions of differential type is analyzed and their associated class of hodograph solutions is discussed.

Towards a theory of differential constraints of a hydrodynamic hierarchy

We present a theory of compatible differential constraints of a hydrodynamic hierarchy of infinite-dimensional systems. It provides a convenient point of view for studying and formulating integrability properties and it reveals some hidden structures of the theory of integrable systems. Illustrative examples and new integrable models are exhibited.

Energy-dependent potentials revisited: A universal hierarchy of hydrodynamic type

A hierarchy of infinite-dimensional systems of hydrodynamic type is considered and a general scheme for classifying its reductions is provided. Wide families of integrable systems including, in particular, those associated with energy-dependent spectral problems of Schr\" odinger type, are characterized as reductions of this hierarchy. $N$-phase type reductions and their corresponding Dubrovin equations are analyzed. A symmetry transformation connecting different classes of reductions is formulated.

Self-similar solutions of NLS-type dynamical systems

We study self-similar solutions of NLS-type dynamical systems. Lagrangian approach is used to show that they can be reduced to three canonical forms, which are related by Miura transformations. The fourth Painleve equation (PIV) is central in our consideration - it connects Heisenberg model, Volterra model and Toda model to each other. The connection between the rational solutions of PIV and Coulomb gas in a parabolic potential is established. We discuss also the possibility to obtain an exact solution for optical soliton i.e. of the NLS equation with time-dependent dispersion.
