Searching for solar KDAR with DUNE

The observation of 236 MeV muon neutrinos from kaon-decay-at-rest (KDAR) originating in the core of the Sun would provide a unique signature of dark matter annihilation. Since excellent angle and energy reconstruction are necessary to detect this monoenergetic, directional neutrino flux, DUNE with its vast volume and reconstruction capabilities, is a promising candidate for a KDAR neutrino search. In this work, we evaluate the proposed KDAR neutrino search strategies by realistically modeling both neutrino-nucleus interactions and the response of DUNE. We find that, although reconstruction of the neutrino energy and direction is difficult with current techniques in the relevant energy range, the superb energy resolution, angular resolution, and particle identification offered by DUNE can still permit great signal/background discrimination. Moreover, there are non-standard scenarios in which searches at DUNE for KDAR in the Sun can probe dark matter interactions.

Design, construction and operation of the ProtoDUNE-SP Liquid Argon TPC

The ProtoDUNE-SP detector is a single-phase liquid argon time projection chamber (LArTPC) that was constructed and operated in the CERN North Area at the end of the H4 beamline. This detector is a prototype for the first far detector module of the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE), which will be constructed at the Sandford Underground Research Facility (SURF) in Lead, South Dakota, USA. The ProtoDUNE-SP detector incorporates full-size components as designed for DUNE and has an active volume of $7\times 6\times 7.2$~m$^3$. The H4 beam delivers incident particles with well-measured momenta and high-purity particle identification. ProtoDUNE-SP's successful operation between 2018 and 2020 demonstrates the effectiveness of the single-phase far detector design. This paper describes the design, construction, assembly and operation of the detector components.

Low exposure long-baseline neutrino oscillation sensitivity of the DUNE experiment

The Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) will produce world-leading neutrino oscillation measurements over the lifetime of the experiment. In this work, we explore DUNE's sensitivity to observe charge-parity violation (CPV) in the neutrino sector, and to resolve the mass ordering, for exposures of up to 100 kiloton-megawatt-years (kt-MW-yr). The analysis includes detailed uncertainties on the flux prediction, the neutrino interaction model, and detector effects. We demonstrate that DUNE will be able to unambiguously resolve the neutrino mass ordering at a 3$σ$ (5$σ$) level, with a 66 (100) kt-MW-yr far detector exposure, and has the ability to make strong statements at significantly shorter exposures depending on the true value of other oscillation parameters. We also show that DUNE has the potential to make a robust measurement of CPV at a 3$σ$ level with a 100 kt-MW-yr exposure for the maximally CP-violating values $δ_{\rm CP}} = \pmπ/2$. Additionally, the dependence of DUNE's sensitivity on the exposure taken in neutrino-enhanced and antineutrino-enhanced running is discussed. An equal fraction of exposure taken in each beam mode is found to be close to optimal when considered over the entire space of interest.

Rigidity for critical metrics of the volume functional

Geodesic balls in a simply connected space forms $\mathbb{S}^n$, $\mathbb{R}^{n}$ or $\mathbb{H}^{n}$ are distinguished manifolds for comparison in bounded Riemannian geometry. In this paper we show that they have the maximum possible boundary volume among Miao-Tam critical metrics with connected boundary provided that the boundary of the manifold is an Einstein hypersurface. In the same spirit we also extend a rigidity theorem due to Boucher et al. \cite{Bou} and Shen \cite{Shen} to $n$-dimensional static metrics with positive constant scalar curvature, which provides another proof of a partial answer to the Cosmic no-hair conjecture previously obtained by Chruściel \cite{Chrus}.

Critical metrics of the total scalar curvature functional on 4-manifolds

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the critical points of the total scalar curvature functional restricted to space of metrics with constant scalar curvature of unitary volume, for simplicity CPE metrics. It was conjectured in $1980$'s that every CPE metric must be Einstein. We prove that a $4$-dimensional CPE metric with harmonic tensor $W^+$ must be isometric to a round sphere $\Bbb{S}^4.$

Bounds on volume growth of geodesic balls for Einstein warped products

The purpose of this note is to provide some volume estimates for Einstein warped products similar to a classical result due to Calabi and Yau for complete Riemannian manifolds with nonnegative Ricci curvature. To do so, we make use of the approach of quasi-Einstein manifolds which is directly related to Einstein warped product. In particular, we present an obstruction for the existence of such a class of manifolds.

Bach-flat critical metrics of the volume functional on 4-dimensional manifolds with boundary

The purpose of this article is to investigate Bach-flat critical metrics of the volume functional on a compact manifold $M$ with boundary $\partial M.$ Here, we prove that a Bach-flat critical metric of the volume functional on a simply connected 4-dimensional manifold with boundary isometric to a standard sphere must be isometric to a geodesic ball in a simply connected space form $\Bbb{R}^{4},$ $\Bbb{H}^{4}$ or $\Bbb{S}^{4}$. Moreover, we show that in dimension three the result even is true replacing the Bach-flat condition by the weaker assumption that $M$ has divergence-free Bach tensor.

Free boundary hypersurfaces with nonpositive Yamabe invariant in mean convex manifolds

We obtain some estimates on the area of the boundary and on the volume of a certain free boundary hypersurface $Σ$ with nonpositive Yamabe invariant in a Riemannian $n$-manifold with bounds for the scalar curvature and the mean curvature of the boundary. Assuming further that $Σ$ is locally volume-minimizing in a manifold $M^n$ with scalar curvature bounded below by a nonpositive constant and mean convex boundary, we conclude that locally $M$ splits along $Σ$. In the case that the scalar curvature of $M$ is at least $-n(n-1)$ and $Σ$ locally minimizes a certain functional inspired by [30], a neighborhood of $Σ$ in $M$ is isometric to $((-\varepsilon,\varepsilon)\timesΣ,dt^2+e^{2t}g)$, where $g$ is Ricci flat.

Uniqueness of quasi-Einstein metrics on 3-dimensional homogeneous manifolds

The purpose of this article is to study the existence and uniqueness of quasi-Einstein structures on $3$-dimensional homogeneous Riemannian manifolds. To this end, we use the eight model geometries for 3-dimensional manifolds identified by Thurston. First, we present here a complete description of quasi-Einstein metrics on $3$-dimensional homogeneous manifolds with isometry group of dimension $4.$ In addition, we shall show the absence of such gradient structure on $Sol^3,$ which has $3$-dimensional isometry group. Moreover, we prove that Berger's spheres carry a non-trivial quasi-Einstein structure with non gradient associated vector field, this shows that a theorem due to Perelman can not be extend to quasi-Einstein metrics. Finally, we prove that a $3$-dimensional homogeneous manifold carrying a gradient quasi-Einstein structure is either Einstein or $\mathbb{H}^2_κ \times \mathbb{R}.$

Stability of Spacelike Hypersurfaces in Foliated Spacetimes

We show that a given $x:M^n\to \bar{M}^{n+1}=I\times_ϕF^{n}$ closed spacelike hypersurface with constant mean curvature $H$ and warping function $ϕ$ satisfying ϕ''\geq \ma\{Hϕ'',0\}$ is either minimal or a spacelike slice $\{t_{o}\}\times F$ for some $t_{o}\in I$.

Global aspects of gravitomagnetism

We consider global properties of gravitomagnetism by investigating the gravitomagnetic field of a rotating cosmic string. We show that although the gravitomagnetic field produced by such a configuration of matter vanishes locally, it can be detected globally. In this context we discuss the gravitational analogue of the Aharonov-Bohm effect.

Circular Cosmic String Loop in Brans-Dicke Theory

The gravitational field of a stationary circular cosmic string loop ,externally supported against collapse, is investigated in the context of Brans-Dicke theory in the weak field approximation of the field equations. The solution is quasi-conformally related to the corresponding solution in Einstein's General Relativity(GR) and goes over to the corresponding solution in GR when the Brans-Dicke parameter $ω$ becomes infinitely large.

On the weak field approximation of Brans-Dicke theory of gravity

It is shown that in the weak field approximation solutions of Brans-Dicke equations are simply related to the solutions of General Relativity equations for the same matter distribution. A simple method is developed which permits to obtain Brans-Dicke solutions from Einstein solutions when both theories are considered in their linearized forms. To illustrate the method some examples found in the literature are discussed.

Global Monopoles in Brans-Dicke Theory of Gravity

The gravitational field of a global monopole in the context of Brans-Dicke theory of gravity is investigated. The space-time and the scalar field generated by the monopole are obtained by solving the field equations in the weak field approximation. A comparison is made with the corresponding results predicted by General Relativity.
