Formation and relaxation of halos in the context of wave DM particles evolving on a background of neutrino condensate

We investigate the formation and relaxation of dark matter halos in the context of wave dark matter particles evolving on a background of neutrino condensate. To this aim, we solved numerically the Schrodinger-Poisson system to model the dynamical evolution of ultralight bosonic dark matter particles in the presence of neutrino condensate. The latter appears as an additional source of the gravitational field in the Poisson equation, while its dynamical evolution and interaction with the environment are neglected. We found that, depending by the value of the cutoff parameter, the presence of the background neutrino condensate can affect the formation and relaxation of wave dark matter halos. Nevertheless, for value of the cutoff of the order of a few eV, the two species can coexist showing only marginal differences with the only-wave dark matter case. These results open to the possibility of investigate about more complex cosmological scenarios involving the formation of dark matter halos.

The effect of spacetime torsion on neutrino mixing

In the framework of quantum field theory, we analyze the neutrino oscillations in the presence of a torsion background. We consider the Einstein Cartan theory and we study the cases of constant torsion and of linearly time-dependent torsion. We derive new neutrino oscillation formulae which depend on the spin orientation and the CP asymmetry formula. Experiment such as PTOLEMY which analyzes the cosmological background of neutrino, can provide insights into the effect shown here.

Probing dark matter and quantum field theory effects with Rydberg atoms

We analyze the oscillations of Rydberg atoms in the framework of quantum field theory and we reveal non-trivial vacuum energy which has the equation of state of the dark matter. This energy is similar to that expected for mixed neutrinos and affects the thermal capacity of the gas. Therefore, the deflection of the thermal capacity of Rydberg atoms could prove the condensate structure of vacuum for mixing fermions and open new scenarios in the study of the dark components of the universe.

Neutrino nature, total and geometric phase

We study the total and the geometric phase associated with neutrino mixing and we show that the phases produced by the neutrino oscillations have different values depending on the representation of the mixing matrix and on the neutrino nature. Therefore the phases represent a possible probe to distinguish between Dirac and Majorana neutrinos.

Axion-photon mixing in quantum field theory and vacuum energy

We analyze axion--photon mixing in the framework of quantum field theory. The condensate structure of the vacuum for mixed fields induces corrections to the oscillation formulae and leads to non-zero energy of the vacuum for the component of the photon mixed with the axion. This energy generates a new effect of the vacuum polarization and it has the state equation of the cosmological constant, $w = -1$. This result holds for any homogeneous and isotropic curved space-time, as well as for diagonal metrics. Numerical estimates of the corrections to the oscillation formulae are presented by considering the intensity of the magnetic field available in the laboratory. Moreover, we estimate the vacuum energy density induced by axion--photon mixing in the Minkowski space-time. A value compatible with that of the energy density of the universe can be obtained for axions with a mass of $(10^{-3}-10^{-2}) eV$ in the presence of the strong magnetic fields that characterize astrophysical objects such as pulsars or neutron stars. In addition, a value of the energy density less than that of the Casimir effect is obtained for magnetic fields used in experiments such as PVLAS. The vacuum polarization induced by this energy could be detected in next experiments and it might provide an indirect proof of the existence of the axion--photon mixing. The quantum field theory effects presented in this work may lead to new methods for studying axion-like particles.

Decoherence in neutrino oscillations, neutrino nature and CPT violation

We analyze many aspects of the phenomenon of the decoherence for neutrinos propagating in long baseline experiments. We show that, in the presence of an off-diagonal term in the dissipative matrix, the Majorana neutrino can violate the CP T symmetry, which, on the contrary, is preserved for Dirac neutrinos. We show that oscillation formulas for Majorana neutrinos depend on the choice of the mixing matrix U. Indeed, different choices of U lead to different oscillation formulas. Moreover, we study the possibility to reveal the differences between Dirac and Majorana neutrinos in the oscillations. We use the present values of the experimental parameters in order to relate our theoretical proposal with experiments.

The Interplay between Frustration and Entanglement in Many-Body Systems

Frustration of classical many-body systems can be used to distinguish ferromagnetic interactions from anti-ferromagnetic ones via the Toulouse conditions. A quantum version of the Toulouse conditions provides a similar classification based on the local ground states. We compute the global ground states for a family of models with Heisenberg-like interactions and analyse their behaviour with respect to frustration, entanglement and degeneracy. For that we develop analytical and numerical analysing tools capable to quantify the interplay between those three quantities. We find that the quantum Toulouse conditions provide a proper classification, however, refinements can be found. Our results show how the different local ground states affect the interplay and pave the way for further generalisation and possible applications to other quantum many-body systems.

Geometric phase of neutrinos: differences between Dirac and Majorana neutrinos

We analize the non-cyclic geometric phase for neutrinos. We find that the geometric phase and the total phase associated to the mixing phenomenon provide a tool to distinguish between Dirac and Majorana neutrinos. Our results hold for neutrinos propagating in vacuum and through the matter. Future experiments, based on interferometry, could reveal the nature of neutrinos.

Water-mediated correlations in DNA-enzyme interactions

In this paper we consider dipole-mediated correlations between DNA and enzymes in the context of their water environment. Such correlations emerge from electric dipole-dipole interactions between aromatic ring structures in DNA and in enzymes. We show that there are matching collective modes between DNA and enzyme dipole fields, and that a dynamic time-averaged polarization vanishes in the water dipole field only if either DNA, enzyme, or both are absent from the sample. This persistent field may serve as the electromagnetic image that, in popular colloquialisms about DNA biochemistry, allows enzymes to "scan" or "read" the double helix. Topologically nontrivial configurations in the coherent ground state requiring clamplike enzyme behavior on the DNA may stem, ultimately, from spontaneously broken gauge symmetries.

Geometric phase and its applications to fundamental physics

We report on recent results showing that the geometric phase can be used as a tool in the analysis of many different physical systems, as mixed boson systems, CPT and CP violations, Unruh effects and thermal states. We show that the geometric phases appearing in the time evolution of mixed meson systems like $B_{s}^{0}-\bar{B}_{s}^{0}$ and the $K^{0}-\bar{K}^{0}$ are linked to the parameter $z$ describing the $CPT$ violation. A non zero phase difference between particle and antiparticle arises only in the presence of $CPT$ symmetry breaking. Then the geometric phase can represent a completely new test for the $CPT$ invariance. Moreover, we study the geometric phase of systems represented by mixed state and undergoing a nonunitary evolution and propose the realization of interferometers which can prove the existence of the Unruh effect and can allow very precise measurements of temperature. We are glad to dedicate this paper to Professor Gaetano Vilasi in the occasion of his 70th birthday.

Probing mixing of photons and axion-like particles by geometric phase

We find that a geometric phase characterizes the phenomenon of mixing of photons with axion-like particles (ALPs). The laboratory observation of such a phase may provide a novel tool able to detect such a mixing phenomenon. We show that the geometric phase is dependent on the axion-like particle mass and coupling constant. We discuss an interferometric experiment able to detect the geometric phase associated to the ALPs-photon mixing.

Vacuum condensate, geometric phase, Unruh effect and temperature measurement

In our previous work it has been shown the possibility to use the Aharonov-Anandan invariant as a tool in the analysis of disparate systems, including Hawking and Unruh effects, as well as graphene physics and thermal states. We show that the vacuum condensation, characterizing such systems, is also related with geometric phases and we analyze the properties of the geometric phase of systems represented by mixed state and undergoing a nonunitary evolution. In particular, we consider two level atoms accelerated by an external potential and interacting with a thermal state. We propose the realization of Mach-Zehnder interferometers which can prove the existence of the Unruh effect and can allow very precise measurements of temperature.

Self-similarity properties of nafionized and filtered water and deformed coherent states

By resorting to measurements of physically characterizing observables of water samples perturbed by the presence of Nafion and by iterative filtration processes, we discuss their scale free, self-similar fractal properties. By use of algebraic methods the isomorphism is proved between such self-similarity features and the deformed coherent state formalism.

Gauge theory and two level systems

We consider the time evolution of a two level system (a two level atom or a qubit) and show that it is characterized by a local (in time) gauge invariant evolution equation. The covariant derivative operator is constructed and related to the free energy. We show that the gauge invariant characterization of the time evolution of the two level system is analogous to the birefringence phenomenon in optics. The relation with Berry-like and Anandan--Aharonov phase is pointed out. Finally, we discuss entropy, environment effects and the distance in projective Hilbert space between two level states in their evolution.

On flavor violation for massive and mixed neutrinos

We discuss flavor charges and states for interacting mixed neutrinos in QFT. We show that the Pontecorvo states are not eigenstates of the flavor charges. This implies that their use in describing the flavor neutrinos produces a violation of lepton charge conservation in the production/detection vertices. The flavor states defined as eigenstates of the flavor charges give the correct representation of mixed neutrinos in charged current weak interaction processes.

Dark energy and particle mixing

We show that the vacuum condensate due to particle mixing is responsible of a dynamically evolving dark energy. In particular, we show that values of the adiabatic index close to -1 for vacuum condensates of neutrinos and quarks imply, at the present epoch, contributions to the vacuum energy compatible with the estimated upper bound on the dark energy.
