Performance of the LHCb muon detector in Run 3

In Run 3 of the LHC, the instantaneous luminosity at the LHCb interaction point has been increased by a factor of five, from $4\times 10^{32}\rm{cm}^{-2}\rm{s}^{-1}$ to $2\times 10^{33}\rm{cm}^{-2}\rm{s}^{-1}$. Several hardware interventions, including a complete overhaul of the readout electronics, have been carried out on the muon detector. The muon identification algorithms in the software trigger were improved with the aim of ensuring Run 2 performance under a higher particle rate. The operation and calibration of the upgraded muon detector are presented. The muon detection efficiency and muon identification performance are evaluated on data calibration samples collected during the year 2024. A muon identification efficiency above 90\% with sub-percent hadron misidentification probability is achieved by exploiting the pattern of hits in the muon detector.

Performance of the LHCb RICH detectors during LHC Run 2

The performance of the ring-imaging Cherenkov detectors at the LHCb experiment is determined during the LHC Run 2 period between 2015 and 2018. The stability of the Cherenkov angle resolution and number of detected photons with time and running conditions is measured. The particle identification performance is evaluated with data and found to satisfy the requirements of the physics programme.

FPGA-based real-time data processing for accelerating reconstruction at LHCb

In Run-3, beginning in 2022, the LHCb software trigger will start reconstructing events at the LHC average crossing rate of 30 MHz. Within the upgraded DAQ system, LHCb established a testbed for new heterogeneous computing solutions for real-time event reconstruction, in view of future runs at even higher luminosities. One such solution is a highly-parallelized custom tracking processor ("Artificial Retina"), implemented in state of the art FPGA devices connected by fast serial links. We describe the status of a realistic prototype for the reconstruction of pixel tracking detectors that will run on real data during Run-3.

A Comparison of CPU and GPU implementations for the LHCb Experiment Run 3 Trigger

The LHCb experiment at CERN is undergoing an upgrade in preparation for the Run 3 data taking period of the LHC. As part of this upgrade the trigger is moving to a fully software implementation operating at the LHC bunch crossing rate. We present an evaluation of a CPU-based and a GPU-based implementation of the first stage of the High Level Trigger. After a detailed comparison both options are found to be viable. This document summarizes the performance and implementation details of these options, the outcome of which has led to the choice of the GPU-based implementation as the baseline.

Opportunities in Flavour Physics at the HL-LHC and HE-LHC

Motivated by the success of the flavour physics programme carried out over the last decade at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), we characterize in detail the physics potential of its High-Luminosity and High-Energy upgrades in this domain of physics. We document the extraordinary breadth of the HL/HE-LHC programme enabled by a putative Upgrade II of the dedicated flavour physics experiment LHCb and the evolution of the established flavour physics role of the ATLAS and CMS general purpose experiments. We connect the dedicated flavour physics programme to studies of the top quark, Higgs boson, and direct high-$p_T$ searches for new particles and force carriers. We discuss the complementarity of their discovery potential for physics beyond the Standard Model, affirming the necessity to fully exploit the LHC's flavour physics potential throughout its upgrade eras.

Prospects for Measurements with Strange Hadrons at LHCb

This report details the capabilities of LHCb and its upgrades towards the study of kaons and hyperons. The analyses performed so far are reviewed, elaborating on the prospects for some key decay channels, while proposing some new measurements in LHCb to expand its strangeness research program.

Performance of the LHCb RICH detector at the LHC

The LHCb experiment has been taking data at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN since the end of 2009. One of its key detector components is the Ring-Imaging Cherenkov (RICH) system. This provides charged particle identification over a wide momentum range, from 2-100 GeV/c. The operation and control software, and online monitoring of the RICH system are described. The particle identification performance is presented, as measured using data from the LHC. Excellent separation of hadronic particle types (pion, kaon and proton) is achieved.

The Magnetic Distortion Calibration System of the LHCb RICH1 Detector

The LHCb RICH1 detector uses hybrid photon detectors (HPDs) as its optical sensors. A calibration system has been constructed to provide corrections for distortions that are primarily due to external magnetic fields. We describe here the system design, construction, operation and performance.

Roadmap for selected key measurements of LHCb

Six of the key physics measurements that will be made by the LHCb experiment, concerning CP asymmetries and rare B decays, are discussed in detail. The "road map" towards the precision measurements is presented, including the use of control channels and other techniques to understand the performance of the detector with the first data from the LHC.
