Jeans Instability in Classical and Modified Gravity

Gravitational instability in classical Jeans theory, General Relativity, and modified gravity is considered. The background density increase leads to a faster growth of perturbations in comparison with the standard theory. The transition to the Newtonian gauge in the case of coordinate dependent background metric functions is studied. For modified gravity a new high frequency stable solution is found.

Antimatter in the universe and laboratory

Possible signatures which may indicate an existence of antimatter in the Galaxy and in the early universe are reviewed. A model which could give rise to abundant antimatter in the Galaxy is considered.

Antimatter and antistars in the universe and in the Galaxy

We consider consequences of hypothetical existence of baryo-dense stars created in the very early universe within an extension of Affleck-Dine scenario of baryogenesis. New constraints on the possible number of compact antimatter objects are derived. The contemporary observational data do not exclude significant amount of antimatter in the Galaxy (and in other galaxies) in the form of the baryo-dense low-massive stars.

Light millicharged particles and large scale cosmic magnetic fields

After a brief review of different types of scenarios suggested for the solution of the problem of galactic and intergalactic magnetic field generation, the mechanism based on the electric current induction by hypothetical millicharged particles interacting with electrons in cosmic medium is discussed. The proposed model successfully describes observational data. The new light millicharged particles can contribute from a small fraction up to 100% to the cosmological dark matter.

Special point on the mass radius diagram of hybrid stars

An analytical study that explains the existence of a very small region on the mass radius diagram of hybrid stars where all of the lines representing the sequences of models with different constant values of the bag constant B intersect is presented. This circumstance is shown to be a consequence of the linear dependence of pressure on energy density in the quark cores of hybrid stars.

A cosmological bound on $e^+ e^-$ mass difference

We demonstrate that CPT-violation due to $e^+ e^-$ mass difference generates a non-zero photon mass. As a result the cosmological bounds on the photon mass lead to the bounds on $e^+ e^-$ mass difference which are at least by 10 orders of magnitude stronger than the direct experimental bound.

Dark matter and generation of galactic magnetic fields

A new scenario for creation of galactic magnetic fields is proposed which is operative at the cosmological epoch of the galaxy formation, and which relies on unconventional properties of dark matter. Namely, it requires existence of feeble but long range interaction between the dark matter particles and electrons. In particular, millicharged dark matter particles or mirror particles with the photon kinetic mixing to the usual photon can be considered. We show that in rotating protogalaxies circular electric currents can be generated by the interactions of free electrons with dark matter particles in the halo, while the impact of such interactions on galactic protons is considerably weaker. The induced currents may be strong enough to create the observed magnetic fields on the galaxy scales with the help of moderate dynamo amplification. In addition, the angular momentum transfer from the rotating gas to dark matter component could change the dark matter profile and formation of cusps at galactic centers would be inhibited. The global motion of the ionized gas could produce sufficiently large magnetic fields also in filaments and galaxy clusters.

How to see an antistar

Polarization of photons emitted in weak decays occuring at distant star allows to determine whether this star is made from antimatter. Even more promissing is the observation of neutrinos (antineutrinos) produced at neutronization (antineutronization) reactions at the beginning of SN ($\bar{SN}$) explosion.

Constraints on millicharged particles from Planck

We revisit cosmic microwave background (CMB) constraints on the abundance of millicharged particles based on the Planck data. The stringent limit Omega_{mcp}h^2 < 0.001 (95% CL) may be set using the CMB data alone if millicharged particles participate in the acoustic oscillations of baryon-photon plasma at the recombination epoch. The latter condition is valid for a wide region of charges and masses of the particles. Adding the millicharged component to LCDM shifts prefered scalar spectral index of primordial perturbations to somewhat larger values as compared to minimal model, even approaching Harrison-Zeldovich spectrum under some assumptions.

Stars and Black Holes from the very Early Universe

A mechanism of creation of stellar-like objects in the very early universe, from the QCD phase transition till BBN and somewhat later, is studied. It is argued that in the considered process primordial black holes with masses above a few solar masses up to super-heavy ones could be created. This may explain an early quasar creation with evolved chemistry in surrounding medium and the low mass cutoff of the observed black holes. It is also shown that dense primordial stars can be created at the considered epoch. Such stars could later become very early supernovae and in particular high redshift gamma-bursters. In a version of the model some of the created objects can consist of antimatter.

Flame fronts in Supernovae Ia and their pulsational stability

The structure of the deflagration burning front in type Ia supernovae is considered. The parameters of the flame are obtained: its normal velocity and thickness. The results are in good agreement with the previous works of different authors. The problem of pulsation instability of the flame, subject to plane perturbations, is studied. First, with the artificial system with switched-off hydrodynamics the possibility of secondary reactions to stabilize the front is shown. Second, with account of hydrodynamics, realistic EOS and thermal conduction we can obtain pulsations when Zeldovich number was artificially increased. The critical Zeldovich numbers are presented. These results show the stability of the flame in type Ia supernovae against pulsations because its effective Zeldovich number is small.

Particle Production in f(R) Gravity during Structure Formation

We study particle production in infrared-modified gravitational theories in the contemporary universe. It is shown that in astronomical systems with rising mass density, the curvature scalar may oscillate with very high frequency. These oscillations lead to efficient particle production and in an interesting range of model parameters could be a source of energetic cosmic rays. This effect either excludes some models of modified gravity or suggests a new mechanism of cosmic ray production.

Spherically Symmetric Solutions in F(R) Gravity and Gravitational Repulsion

Spherically symmetric solutions in F(R) theories in astronomical systems with rising energy density are studied. The range of parameters is established for which the flat space-time approximation for the background metric is valid. For the solutions in which the curvature scalar oscillates with large amplitude and high frequency, found in our previous papers, it is shown that the analysis of the Jeans instability is strongly modified. It is discovered that for large astronomical objects modified gravity can be repulsive, so such objects shrink forming relatively thin shells instead of quasi uniform bodies. This may explain the formation of cosmic voids.

Thermodynamics and kinetics of elementary particles in cosmology

Several lectures for non-experts on equilibrium and non-equilibrium kinetics in expanding universe are presented. An establishment of thermal equilibrium in the ealry universe as well as mechanisms leading to deviations from the equilibrium are discussed. In the first lecture an elementary introduction to cosmology is presented. Next, kinetic equation in Friedman-Robertson-Walker mertric is considered. Properties of its solutions for different types of particles, in particular, for photons of cosmic microwave background radiation, neutrinos, and massive particles, which could be cold dark matter ones, are analyzed. It is shown, in particular, that despite being massless, neutrinos noticeably deviate from equilibrium. Next the modification of the detailed balance condition in the case of broken T-invariance is discussed and it is shown that the standard equilibrium distribution functions remain unchanged. Possible modification of the standard kinetics in the case of broken CPT and applications to baryogenesis are considered.

Curvature Oscillations in Modified Gravity and High Energy Cosmic Rays

It is shown that F(R)-modified gravitational theories lead to curvature oscillations in astrophysical systems with rising energy density. The frequency and the amplitude of such oscillations could be very high and would lead to noticeable production of energetic cosmic ray particles.

Resolving infall caustics in dark matter halos

We have found that the phase-space of a dark matter particles assembling a galactic halo in cosmological N-body simulations has well defined fine grained structure. Recently accreted particles form distinctive velocity streams with high density contrast. For fixed observer position these streams lead to peaks in velocity distribution. Overall structure is close to that emerging in the secondary infall model.
