Overcritical Fermi Superfluids

Superfluidity in Fermi systems is not destroyed by a flow exceeding the Landau velocity threshold. The overcritical state acquires normal component even at zero temperature. We explore peculiar hydrodynamics of this system and discover two sound modes, for which the explicit universal dispersion relations are provided.

Tunnelling defect nanoclusters in hcp 4He crystals: alternative to supersolidity

A simple model based on the concept of resonant tunnelling clusters of lattice defects is used to explain the low temperature anomalies of hcp 4He crystals (mass decoupling from a torsional oscillator, shear modulus anomaly, dissipation peaks, heat capacity peak). Mass decoupling is a result of an internal Josephson effect: mass supercurrent inside phase coherent tunnelling clusters. Quantitative results are in reasonable agreement with experiments.

Momentum deficit in quantum glasses

Using the concept of tunneling two level systems we explain the reduction of rotational inertia of disordered solid 4He observed in the torsional oscillator experiments. The key point is a peculiar quantum phenomenon of momentum deficit for two level systems in moving solids. We show that an unusual state which is essentially different from both normal and superfluid solid states can be realized in quantum glasses. This state is characterized by reduced rotational inertia in oscillator experiments, by absence of a superflow, and by normal behavior in steady rotation.

Supersolidity of glasses

Supersolidity of glasses is explained as a property of an unusual state of condensed matter. This state is essentially different from both normal and superfluid solid states. The mechanism of the phenomenon is the transfer of mass by tunneling two level systems.

Simple theory of extremely overdoped HTS

We demonstrate the existence of a simple physical picture of superconductivity for extremely overdoped CuO2 planes. It possesses all characteristic features of HTS, such as a high superconducting transition temperature, the $d_{x^2 - y^2}$ symmetry of order parameter, and the coexistence of a single electron Fermi surface and a pseudogap in the normal state. Values of pseudogap are calculated for different doping levels. An orbital paramagnetism of preformed pairs is predicted.

Thermodynamics of Superfluidity

New, superfluid specific additive integral of motion is found. This facilitates investigation of general thermodynamic equilibrium conditions for superfluid. The analysis is performed in an extended space of thermodynamic variables containing (along with the usual thermodynamic coordinates such as pressure and temperature) superfluid velocity and momentum density. The equilibrium stability conditions lead to thermodynamic inequalities which replace the Landau superfluidity criterion at finite temperatures.

Thermodynamic inequalities in superfluid

We investigate general thermodynamic stability conditions for the superfluid. This analysis is performed in an extended space of thermodynamic variables containing (along with the usual thermodynamic coordinates such as pressure and temperature) superfluid velocity and momentum density. The stability conditions lead to thermodynamic inequalities which replace the Landau superfluidity criterion at finite temperatures.

Manifestation of additional dimensions of space-time in mesoscopic systems

We note that the existence of physical states which are coherent superpositions of states with even and odd numbers of fermions means the existence, together with x,y,z,t, of additional spinor dimensions of space-time. A system with variable number of electrons is described in which such superpositions are realized. Experiments with mesoscopic condensed matter systems are suggested which generalize the experiment of Nakamura et al. and may provide direct observation of such superpositions and, thereby, justify the reality of a superspace with additional spinor dimensions introduced in quantum field theory to account for supersymmetry. The nature of additional dimensions of space-time is elucidated for nonrelativistic systems.

Two-velocity elasticity theory and facet growth

We explain the linear growth of smooth solid helium facets by the presence of lattice point defects. To implement this task, the framework of very general two-velocity elasticity theory equations is developed. Boundary conditions for these equations for various surface types are derived. We also suggest additional experiments to justify the concept.

Gap and subgap tunnelling in cuprates

We describe strongly attractive carriers in cuprates in the framework of a simple quasi-one dimensional Hamiltonian with a local attraction. In contrast with the conventional BCS theory there are two energy scales, a temperature independent incoherent gap $Δ_p$ and a temperature dependent coherent gap $Δ_c (T)$ combining into one temperature dependent global gap $Δ=(Δ_p^2 +Δ_c^2)^{1/2}$. The temperature dependence of the gap and single particle (Giaver) tunnelling spectra in cuprates are quantitatively described. A framework for understanding of two distinct energy scales observed in Giaver tunnelling and electron-hole reflection experiments is provided.
