Spectroscopic and femtoscopic insights into vector-baryon interactions in the strangeness $-1$ sector

We revisit the strangeness $-1$ sector of the interaction between vector mesons of the $\rho-$nonet and $1/2^+$ ground state baryons ($VB$), within the unitary coupled-channel hidden gauge formalism. We adopt a renormalization scheme that induces a reasonable short-distance behavior of the two-hadron wave functions, which is the major limitation of femtoscopy techniques at this time. We perform an exhaustive spectroscopy study, implementing different improvements and considerations, and find compatibilities between the poles extracted from the present approach, and some of the states listed in the Review of Particle Physics. Finally, we predict several correlation functions (CFs) associated with various meson-baryon pairs in this sector, paying special attention to the distinctive and clear signatures produced by the dynamically generated states. To obtain realistic estimates for the CFs, we have calculated the production weights using the Thermal-FIST package. Such studies will shed light into the odd-parity $\Lambda^*$ and $\Sigma^*$ hadron spectra, up to 2 GeV, and will open the strategy to improve effective field theories by using low-energy constants fitted to femtoscopy data.

Femtoscopic study of the $S=-1$ meson-baryon interaction: $K^-p$, $\pi^-\Lambda$ and $K^+\Xi^-$ correlations

We study the femtoscopic correlation functions of meson-baryon pairs in the strangeness $S=-1$ sector, employing unitarized s-wave scattering amplitudes derived from the chiral Lagrangian up to next-to-leading order. For the first time, we deliver predictions on the $\pi^-\Lambda$ and $K^+\Xi^-$ correlation functions which are feasible to be measured at the Large Hadron Collider. We also demonstrate that the employed model is perfectly capable of reproducing the $K^-p$ correlation function data measured by the same collaboration, without the need to modify the coupling strength to the $\bar{K}^0n$ channel, as has been recently suggested. In all cases, the effects of the source size on the correlation are tested. In addition, we present detailed analysis of the different coupled-channel contributions, together with the quantification of the relative relevance of the different terms in the interaction. These calculations require the knowledge of the so-called production weights, for which we present two novel methods to compute them.

Bridging correlation and spectroscopy measurements to access the hadron interaction behind molecular states: the case of the $\Xi$(1620) and $\Xi$(1690) in the $K^- \Lambda$ system

We study the compatibility between the $K^-\Lambda$ correlation function, recently measured by the ALICE collaboration, and the LHCb $K^-\Lambda$ invariant mass distribution obtained in the $\Xi^-_b \to J/\psi \Lambda K^-$ decay. The $K^-\Lambda$ invariant mass distribution associated with the $\Xi^-_b$ decay has been calculated within the framework of Unitary Effective Field Theories using two models, one of them constrained by the $K^-\Lambda$ correlation function. We consider two degenerate pentaquark $P_{cs}$ states in the $J/\psi \Lambda$ scattering amplitude which allows us to investigate their impact on both the $K^-\Lambda$ and $J/\psi \Lambda$ mass distributions assuming different spin-parity quantum numbers and multiplicity. Without any fitting procedure, the $K^-\Lambda$ model is able to better reproduce the experimental $K^-\Lambda$ mass spectrum in the energy region above $1680$ MeV as compared to previous unitarized scattering amplitudes constrained to a large amount of experimental data in the neutral $S=-1$ meson-baryon sector. We observe a tension between our model and the LHCb $K^-\Lambda$ distribution in the region close to the threshold, largely dominated by the presence of the still poorly known $\Xi$(1620) state. We discuss in detail the different production mechanisms probed via femtoscopy and spectroscopy that could provide valid explanations for such disagreement, indicating the necessity to employ future correlation data in other $S=-2$ channels such as $\pi\Xi$ and $\bar{K}\Sigma$.

Femtoscopy correlation functions and mass distributions from production experiments

We discuss the relation between the Koonin-Pratt femtoscopic correlation function (CF) and invariant mass distributions from production experiments. We show that the equivalence is total for a zero source-size and that a Gaussian finite-size source provides a form-factor for the virtual production of the particles. Motivated by this remarkable relationship, we study an alternative method to the Koonin-Pratt formula, which connects the evaluation of the CF directly with the production mechanisms. The differences arise mostly from the $T$-matrix quadratic terms and increase with the source size. We study the case of the $D^0 D^{\ast +}$ and $D^+ D^{\ast 0}$ correlation functions of interest to unravel the dynamics of the exotic $T_ {cc}(3875)^+$, and find that these differences become quite sizable already for 1 fm sources. We nevertheless conclude that the lack of coherence in high-multiplicity-event reactions and in the creation of the fire-ball source that emits the hadrons certainly make much more realistic the formalism based on the Koonin-Pratt equation. We finally derive an improved Lednicky-Lyuboshits (LL) approach, which implements a Lorentz ultraviolet regulator that corrects the pathological behaviour of the LL CF in the punctual source-size limit.

Relevance of the coupled channels in the $\phi$p and $\rho^0$p Correlation Functions

The vector meson-baryon interaction in a coupled channel scheme is revisited within the correlation function framework. As illustrative cases to reveal the important role played by the coupled channels, we focus on the $\phi$p and $\rho^0$p systems given their complex dynamics and the presence of quasi-bound states or resonances in the vicinity of their thresholds. We show that the $\phi$p femtoscopic data provide novel information about a $N^*$ state present in the experimental region and anticipate the relevance of a future $\rho^0$p correlation function measurement in order to pin down the $S=0, Q=+1$ vector meson-baryon interaction as well as to disclose the characterizing features of the $N^*(1700)$ state.

Lowest-lying ${\frac{1}{2}}^-$ and ${\frac{3}{2}}^-$ $\Lambda_{Q}$ resonances: from the strange to the bottom sectors

We present a detailed study of the lowest-lying ${\frac{1}{2}}^-$ and ${\frac{3}{2}}^-$ $\Lambda_{Q}$ resonances both in the heavy quark (bottom and charm) and the strange sectors. We have paid special attention to the interplay between the constituent quark-model and chiral baryon-meson degrees of freedom, which are coupled using a unitarized scheme consistent with leading-order heavy quark symmetries. We show that the $\Lambda_b(5912)$ [$J^P=1/2^-$], $\Lambda_b(5920)$ [$J^P=3/2^-$] and the $\Lambda_c(2625)$ [$J^P=3/2^-$], and the $\Lambda(1520)$ [$J^P=3/2^-$] admitting larger breaking corrections, are heavy-quark spin-flavor siblings. They can be seen as dressed quark-model states with $\Sigma_{Q}^{(*)}\pi$ molecular components of the order of 30\%. The ${J^P=\frac{1}{2}}^-$ $\Lambda_c(2595)$ has, however, a higher molecular probability of at least $50$\%, and even values greater than 70\% can be easily accommodated. This is because it is located almost on top of the threshold of the $\Sigma_c\pi$ pair, which largely influences its properties. Although the light degrees of freedom in this resonance would be coupled to spin-parity $1^-$ as in the $\Lambda_b(5912)$, $\Lambda_b(5920)$ and $\Lambda_c(2625)$, the $\Lambda_c(2595)$ should not be considered as a heavy-quark spin-flavor partner of the former ones. We also show that the $\Lambda(1405)$ chiral two-pole pattern does not have analogs in the $\frac{1}{2}^-$ charmed and bottomed sectors, because the $ND^{(*)}$ and $N\overline{B}{}^{(*)} $ channels do not play for heavy quarks the decisive role that the $N \overline{K}$ does in the strange sector, and the notable influence of the bare quark-model states for the charm and bottom resonances. Finally, we predict the existence of two $\Lambda_b(6070)$ and two $\Lambda_c(2765)$ heavy-quark spin and flavor sibling odd parity states.

Constraining the low-energy S=-2 meson-baryon interaction with two-particle correlations

The two-particle correlation technique applied to $K^-\Lambda$ pairs in pp collisions at LHC recently provided the most precise data on the strangeness $S=-2$ meson-baryon interaction. In this letter, we use for the first time femtoscopic data to constrain the parameters of a low-energy effective QCD Lagrangian. The tuned model delivers new insights on the molecular nature of the $\Xi(1620)$ and $\Xi(1690)$ states. This procedure opens the possibility to determine higher order corrections, directly constraining QCD effective models particularly in the multi-strange and charm sectors.

Correlation function for the $T_{bb}$ state: Determination of the binding, scattering lengths, effective ranges and molecular probabilities

We perform a study of the $B^{*+}B^0,B^{*0}B^+$ correlation functions using an extension of the local hidden gauge approach which provides the interaction from the exchange of light vector mesons and gives rise to a bound state of these components in $I=0$ with a binding energy of about $21$~MeV. After that, we face the inverse problem of determining the low energy observables, scattering length and effective range for each channel, the possible existence of a bound state, and, if found, the couplings of such a state to each $B^{*+}B^0,B^{*0}B^+$ component as well as the molecular probabilities of each of the channels. We use the bootstrap method to determine these magnitudes and find that, with errors in the correlation function typical of present experiments, we can determine all these magnitudes with acceptable precision. In addition, the size of the source function of the experiment from where the correlation functions are measured can be also determined with a high precision.

Inverse problem in femtoscopic correlation functions: The $T_{cc}(3875)^+$ state

We study here the inverse problem of starting from the femtoscopic correlation functions of related channels and analyze them with an efficient tool to extract the maximum information possible on the interaction of the components of these channels, and the existence of possible bound states tied to this interaction. The method is flexible enough to accommodate non-molecular components and the effect of missing channels relevant for the interaction. We apply the method to realistic correlation functions for the $D^{*+}D^0$ and $D^{*0}D^+$ channels derived consistently from the properties of the $T_{cc}(3875)^+$ and find that we can extract the existence of a bound state, its nature as a molecular state of the $D^{*+}D^0$ and $D^{*0}D^+$ channels, the probabilities of each channel, as well as scattering lengths and effective ranges for the channels, together with the size of the source function, all of them with a relatively good precision.

The isospin and compositeness of the $T_{cc}(3875)$ state

We perform a fit to the LHCb data on the $T_{cc}(3875)$ state in order to determine its nature. We use a general framework that allows to have the $D^0 D^{*+}$, $D^+ D^{*0}$ components forming a molecular state, as well as a possible nonmolecular state or contributions from missing coupled channels. From the fits to the data we conclude that the state observed is clearly of molecular nature from the $D^0 D^{*+}$, $D^+ D^{*0}$ components and the possible contribution of a nonmolecular state or missing channels is smaller than 3\%, compatible with zero. We also determine that the state has isospin $I=0$ with a minor isospin breaking from the different masses of the channels involved, and the probabilities of the $D^0 D^{*+}$, $D^+ D^{*0}$ channels are of the order of 69\% and 29\% with uncertainties of 1\%. The differences between these probabilities should not be interpreted as a measure of the isospin violation. Due to the short range of the strong interaction where the isospin is manifested, the isospin nature is provided by the couplings of the state found to the $D^0 D^{*+}$, $D^+ D^{*0}$ components, and our results for these couplings indicate that we have an $I=0$ state with a very small isospin breaking. We also find that the potential obtained provides a repulsive interaction in $I=1$, preventing the formation of an $I=1$ state, in agreement with what is observed in the experiment.

Femtoscopic correlation function for the $T_{cc}(3875)^+$ state

We have conducted a study of the femtoscopic correlation functions for the $D^0D^{*+}$ and $D^+D^{*0}$ channels that build the $T_{cc}$ state. We develop a formalism that allows us to factorize the scattering amplitudes outside the integrals in the formulas, and the integrals involve the range of the strong interaction explicitly. For a source of size of 1 fm, we find values for the correlation functions of the $D^0 D^{*+}$ and $D^+D^{*0}$ channels at the origin around 30 and 2.5, respectively, and we see these observables converging to unity already for relative momenta of the order of 200 MeV. We conduct tests to see the relevance of the different contributions to the correlation function and find that it mostly provides information on the scattering length, since the presence of the source function in the correlation function introduces an effective cut in the loop integrals that makes them quite insensitive to the range of the interaction.

The $\Xi(1620)$ and $\Xi(1690)$ molecular states from $S=-2$ meson-baryon interaction up to next-to-leading order

We have studied the meson-baryon interaction in the neutral $S=-2$ sector using an extended Unitarized Chiral Perturbation Theory, which takes into account not only the leading Weinberg-Tomozawa term (as all the previous studies in $S=-2$ sector), but also the Born terms and next-to-leading order contribution. Based on the SU(3) symmetry of the chiral Lagrangian we took most of the model parameters from the BCN model \cite{Feijoo:2018den}, where these were fitted to a large amount of experimental data in the neutral $S=-1$ sector. We have shown that our approach is able to generate dynamically both $\Xi(1620)$ and $\Xi(1690)$ states in very reasonable agreement with the data, and can naturally explain the puzzle with the decay branching ratios of $\Xi(1690)$. Our results clearly illustrate the reliability of chiral models implementing unitarization in coupled channels and the importance of considering Born and NLO contributions for precise calculations.

Shedding light on the $ X(3930) $ and $ X(3960) $ states with the $B^- \to K^- J/\psi \omega $ reaction

We have studied the contribution of the state $X(3930)$, coming from the interaction of the $D \overline{D}$ and $D^{+}_s D^{-}_s$ channels, to the $B^- \to K^- J/\psi \omega $ decay. The purpose of this work is to offer a complementary tool to see if the $X(3930)$ state observed in the $D^+ D^-$ channel is the same or not as the $X(3960)$ resonance claimed by the LHCb collaboration from a peak in the $D^{+}_s D^{-}_s$ mass distribution around threshold. We present results for what we expect in the $J/\psi \omega $ mass distribution in the $B^- \to K^- J/\psi \omega $ decay and conclude that a clear signal should be seen around $3930\,\rm MeV$. At the same time, finding no extra resonance signal at $3960\,\rm MeV$ would be a clear indication that there is not a new state at $3960\,\rm MeV$, supporting the hypothesis that the near-threshold peaking structure peak in the $D^{+}_s D^{-}_s$ mass distribution is only a manifestation of a resonance below threshold.

The $X(3960)$ seen in $D_{s}^{+} D_{s}^{-}$ as the $X(3930)$ state seen in $ D^{+} D^{-} $

We perform a calculation of the interaction of the $ D \bar{D} $, $ D_{s} \bar{D}_{s} $ coupled channels and find two bound states, one coupling to $ D \bar{D} $ and another one at higher energies coupling mostly to $D_{s}^{+} D_{s}^{-}$. We identify this latter state with the $X_{0}(3930)$ seen in the $D^{+} D^{-}$ mass distribution in the $B^+ \to D^{+} D^{-} K^{+} $ decay, and also show that it produces an enhancement of the $D_{s}^{+} D_{s}^{-}$ mass distribution close to threshold which is compatible with the LHCb recent observation in the $B^+ \to D_{s}^{+} D_{s}^{-} K^{+} $ decay which has been identified as a new state, $X_{0}(3960)$.

The role of meson interactions in the $D_s^{+}\rightarrow π^{+}π^{+}π^{-}η$ decay

We perform a theoretical study of the $D_s^{+}\to π^{+}π^{+}π^{-}η$ decay. We look first at the basic $D_s^{+}$ decay at the quark level from external and internal emission. Then hadronize a pair or two pairs of $q\bar{q}$ states to have mesons at the end. Posteriorly the pairs of mesons are allowed to undergo final state interaction, by means of which the $a_0(980)$, $f_0(980)$, $a_1(1260)$, and $b_1(1235)$ resonances are dynamically generated. The $G$-parity is used as a filter of the possible channels, and from those with negative $G$-parity only the ones that can lead to $π^{+}π^{+}π^{-}η$ at the final state are kept. Using transition amplitudes from the chiral unitary approach that generates these resonances, and a few free parameters, we obtain a fair reproduction of the six mass distributions reported in BESIII experiment.

Masses and widths of the exotic molecular $B_{(s)}^{(*)} B_{(s)}^{(*)}$ states

We study the interaction of the doubly bottom systems $BB$, $B^* B$, $B_s B$, $B_s^* B$, $B^* B^*$, $B^* B_s$, $B^*B_s^*$, $B_s B_s$, $B_s B_s^*$, $B_s^* B_s^*$ by means of vector meson exchange with Lagrangians from an extension of the local hidden gauge approach. The full s-wave scattering matrix is obtained implementing unitarity in coupled channels by means of the Bethe-Salpeter equation. We find poles below the channel thresholds for the attractively interacting channels $B^* B$ in $I=0$, $B^*_s B-B^*B_s$ in $I=\frac{1}{2}$, $B^* B^*$ in $I=0$, and $B^*_s B^*$ in $I=\frac{1}{2}$, all of them with $J^P=1^+$. For these cases the widths are evaluated identifyng the dominant source of imaginary part. We find binding energies of the order of $10-20$ MeV, and the widths vary much from one system to the other: of the order of 10-100 eV for the $B^* B$ system and $B^*_s B-B^*B_s$, about $6$ MeV for the $B^* B^*$ system and of the order of $0.5$ MeV for the $B^*_s B^*$ system.

$D^0 D^0 π^+$ mass distribution in the production of the $T_{cc}$ exotic state

We perform a unitary coupled channel study of the interaction of the $D^{*+} D^0, D^{*0} D^+$ channels and find a state barely bound, very close to isospin $I=0$. We take the experimental mass as input and obtain the width of the state and the $D^0 D^0 π^+$ mass distribution. When the mass of the $T_{cc}$ state quoted in the experimental paper from raw data is used, the width obtained is of the order of the $80 \;{\rm keV}$, small compared to the value given in that work. Yet, when the mass obtained in an analysis of the data considering the experimental resolution is taken, the width obtained is about $43 \;{\rm keV}$ and both the width and the $D^0 D^0 π^+$ mass distribution are in remarkable agreement with the results obtained in that latter analysis.

The molecular nature of some exotic hadrons

The exciting discovery by LHCb of the $P_c(4312)^+$ and $P_c(4450)^+$ pentaquarks, or the suggestion of a tetraquark nature for the $Z_c(3900)$ state seen at BESIII and Belle, have triggered a lot of activity in the field of hadron physics, with new experiments planned for searching other exotic mesons and baryons, and many theoretical developments trying to disentangle the true multiquark nature from their possible molecular origin. After a brief review of the present status of these searches, this paper focusses on recently seen or yet to be discovered exotic heavy baryons that may emerge from a conveniently unitarized meson-baryon interaction model in coupled channels. In particular, we will show how interferences between the different coupled-channel amplitudes of the model may reveal the existence of a $N^*$ resonance around 2 GeV having a meson-baryon quasi-bound state nature. We also discuss the possible interpretation of some of the $Ω_c$ states recently discovered at LHCb as being hadron molecules. The model also predicts the existence of doubly-charmed quasibound meson-baryon $Ξ_{cc}$ states, which would be excited states of the ground-state $Ξ_{cc}(3621)$ MeV, whose mass has only been recently established. Extensions of these results to the bottom sector will also be presented.
