Two-loop Wess-Zumino model with exact supersymmetry on the lattice

We consider a lattice formulation of the four dimensional N=1 Wess-Zumino model in terms of the Ginsparg-Wilson relation. This formulation has an exact supersymmetry on the lattice. The lattice action is invariant under a deformed supersymmetric transformation which is non-linear in the scalar fields and it is determined by an iterative procedure in the coupling constant to all orders in perturbation theory. We also show that the corresponding Ward-Takahashi identity is satisfied at fixed lattice spacing. The calculation is performed in lattice perturbation theory up to order $g^3$ (two-loop) and the Ward-Takahashi identity (containing 110 connected non-tadpole Feynman diagrams) is satisfied at fixed lattice spacing thanks to this exact lattice supersymmetry.

The High Density Region of QCD from an Effective Model

We study the high density region of QCD within an effective model obtained in the frame of the hopping parameter expansion and choosing Polyakov-type loops as the main dynamical variables representing the fermionic matter. This model still shows the so-called sign problem, a difficulty peculiar to non-zero chemical potential, but it permits the development of algorithms which ensure a good overlap of the simulated Monte Carlo ensemble with the true one. We review the main features of the model and present results concerning the dependence of various observables on the chemical potential and on the temperature, in particular of the charge density and the Polykov loop susceptibility, which may be used to characterize the various phases expected at high baryonic density. In this way, we obtain information about the phase structure of the model and the corresponding phase transitions and cross over regions, which can be considered as hints about the behaviour of non-zero density QCD.

A Model for QCD at High Density and Large Quark Mass

We study the high density region of QCD within an effective model obtained in the frame of the hopping parameter expansion and choosing Polyakov type of loops as the main dynamical variables representing the fermionic matter. To get a first idea of the phase structure, the model is analyzed in strong coupling expansion and using a mean field approximation. In numerical simulations, the model still shows the so-called sign problem, a difficulty peculiar to non-zero chemical potential, but it permits the development of algorithms which ensure a good overlap of the Monte Carlo ensemble with the true one. We review the main features of the model and present calculations concerning the dependence of various observables on the chemical potential and on the temperature, in particular of the charge density and the diquark susceptibility, which may be used to characterize the various phases expected at high baryonic density. We obtain in this way information about the phase structure of the model and the corresponding phase transitions and cross over regions, which can be considered as hints for the behaviour of non-zero density QCD.

Exact Ward-Takahashi identity for the lattice N=1 Wess-Zumino model

The lattice Wess-Zumino model written in terms of the Ginsparg-Wilson relation is invariant under a generalized supersymmetry transformation which is determined by an iterative procedure in the coupling constant. By studying the associated Ward-Takahashi identity up to order $g^2$ we show that this lattice supersymmetry automatically leads to restoration of continuum supersymmetry without fine tuning. In particular, the scalar and fermion renormalization wave functions coincide.

The Three-Loop Lattice Free Energy

We calculate the free energy of SU(N) gauge theories on the lattice, to three loops. Our result, combined with Monte Carlo data for the average plaquette, gives a more precise estimate of the gluonic condensate.

Study of dynamical supersymmetry breaking for the two dimensional lattice Wess-Zumino model

A new approach to the study of the transition point in a class of two dimensional Wess-Zumino models is presented. The method is based on the calculation of rigorous lower bounds on the ground state energy density in the infinite lattice limit. Such bounds are useful in the discussion of supersymmetry phase transition. The transition point is then determined and compared with recent results based on large-scale Green Function Monte Carlo simulations with good agreement.

Information on the Super Yang-Mills Spectrum

We investigate the spectrum of the lightest states of N=1 Super Yang-Mills. We first study the spectrum using the recently extended Veneziano Yankielowicz theory containing also the glueball states besides the gluinoball ones. Using a simple Kahler term we show that within the effective Lagrangian approach one can accommodate either the possibility in which the glueballs are heavier or lighter than the gluinoball fields. We then provide an effective Lagrangian independent argument which allows, using information about ordinary QCD, to deduce that the lightest states in super Yang-Mills are the gluinoballs. This helps constraining the Kahler term of the effective Lagrangian. Using this information and the effective Lagrangian we note that there is a small mixing among the gluinoball and glueball states.

The supersymmetric Ward identities on the lattice

Supersymmetric (SUSY) Ward identities are considered for the N=1 SU(2) SUSY Yang Mills theory discretized on the lattice with Wilson fermions (gluinos). They are used in order to compute non-perturbatively a subtracted gluino mass and the mixing coefficient of the SUSY current. The computations were performed at gauge coupling $β$=2.3 and hopping parameter $κ$=0.1925, 0.194, 0.1955 using the two-step multi-bosonic dynamical-fermion algorithm. Our results are consistent with a scenario where the Ward identities are satisfied up to O(a) effects. The vanishing of the gluino mass occurs at a value of the hopping parameter which is not fully consistent with the estimate based on the chiral phase transition. This suggests that, although SUSY restoration appears to occur close to the continuum limit of the lattice theory, the results are still affected by significant systematic effects.

Lattice supersymmetric Ward identities

SUSY Ward identities for the N=1 SU(2) SUSY Yang-Mills theory are studied on the lattice in a non-perturbative numerical approach. As a result a determination of the subtracted gluino mass is obtained.

The three-loop beta function of SU(N) lattice gauge theories with Wilson fermions

We calculate the third coefficient of the lattice beta function associated with the Wilson formulation for both gauge fields and fermions. This allows us to evaluate the three-loop correction (linear in $g_0^2$) to the relation between the lattice Lambda-parameter and the bare coupling $g_0$, which is important in order to verify asymptotic scaling predictions. Our calculation also leads to the two-loop relation between the coupling renormalized in the MSbar scheme and $g_0$. The original version of this paper contained a numerical error in one of the diagrams, which has now been corrected. The calculations, as well as the layout of the paper have remained identical, but there are some important changes in the numerical results.

SUSY Ward identities in N=1 SYM theory on the lattice

The SUSY Ward identities (WIs) for the N=1 SU(2) SUSY Yang Mills theory discretized on the lattice with Wilson fermions (gluinos) are considered. The study is performed in the framework of a Monte Carlo simulation of the model with light dynamical gluinos. The renormalization and mixing constants of the lattice SUSY current $Z_S$ and $Z_T$ and the additively renormalized gluino mass $m_S$ are unknown parameters of the SUSY WIs. Using suitable on-shell combinations of the WIs, the ratios $Z_T/Z_S$ and $m_S/Z_S$ are determined non-perturbatively at one value of the coupling constant $g_0$ and two values of the hopping parameter $κ$.

Monte Carlo simulation of SU(2) Yang-Mills theory with light gluinos

In a numerical Monte Carlo simulation of SU(2) Yang-Mills theory with light dynamical gluinos the low energy features of the dynamics as confinement and bound state mass spectrum are investigated. The motivation is supersymmetry at vanishing gluino mass. The performance of the applied two-step multi-bosonic dynamical fermion algorithm is discussed.

Thermodynamics of One-flavour QCD

We give a brief introduction on finite temperature phase transitions in lattice QCD including a discussion on the identification of first order transitions. We present a study of the deconfinement phase transition of one-flavour QCD, using the multiboson algorithm on lattice of sizes $8^3$, $12^3$ and $16^3\times 4$. For heavy quarks our results are characteristic of a first order phase transition which gets weaker as the quark mass decreases and ends at a critical value of $κ\sim 0.1$ or in physical units at about 1.6 GeV.

Three-Loop Results in QCD with Wilson Fermions

We calculate the third coefficient of the lattice beta function in QCD with Wilson fermions, extending the pure gauge results of Luescher and Weisz; we show how this coefficient modifies the scaling function on the lattice. We also calculate the three-loop average plaquette in the presence of Wilson fermions. This allows us to compute the lattice scaling function both in the standard and energy schemes.
