Black hole mass and distance from accretion disk astrophysical observables

In this work we derive novel analytical expressions for the mass and distance of a Schwarzschild black hole (BH), as well as for the orbital radius of test particles orbiting it, it terms of astrophysical observables measured throughout the entire orbit of the revolving particle. We use a general relativistic method to describe the frequency shifts of photons emitted in the vivinity of a BH by considering two emitters (or two positions of the same emitter) located symmetrically opposite to each other with respect to the observer's line of sight (LOS) when performing measurements along the orbit. Furthermore, the introduction of the redshift rapidity allows us to write independent expressions for the BH mass and its distance to Earth. We also extend our study to the case when astrophysical systems have a peculiar motion and derive the corresponding closed formulas.

Estimating the mass-to-distance ratio for a set of megamaser AGN black holes by employing a general relativistic method

Context. Motivated by the recent achievements of a full general relativistic method in determining black hole (BH) parameters, we continue to estimate the mass-to-distance ratio of the supermassive BHs hosted at the core of the active galactic nuclei (AGNs) of the megamaser galaxies NGC 1320, NGC 1194, NGC 5495, and Mrk 1029. Aims. Our aim is to study the properties of super massive BHs at the centers of the selected AGNs by using a full general relativistic method that allows us to address the potential detection of relativistic effects within such astrophysical systems. Methods. In order to perform statistical estimations with publicly available observational data, we used a general relativistic model that describes BH rotation curves and further employed a Bayesian fitting method. Results. We estimated the mass-to-distance ratio of the aforementioned BHs, their position and the recessional redshifts of the host galaxies produced by both peculiar motion and cosmological expansion of the Universe. Finally, we calculated the gravitational redshift of the closest maser to the BH for each AGN. This gravitational redshift is a general relativistic effect produced by the gravitational field of the BH properly included in the modelling.

Classical Characterization of quantum waves: Comparison between the caustic and the zeros of the Madelung-Bohm potential

From a geometric perspective, the caustic is the most classical description of a wavefunction since its evolution is governed by the Hamilton-Jacobi equation. On the other hand, according to the Madelung-de Broglie-Bohm equations, the most classical description of a solution to the Schrödinger equation is given by the zeros of the Madelung-Bohm potential. In this work, we compare these descriptions and, by analyzing how the rays are organized over the caustic, we find that the wavefunctions with fold caustic are the most classical beams because the zeros of the Madelung-Bohm potential coincide with the caustic. For another type of beams, the Madelung-Bohm potential is in general distinct to zero over the caustic. We have verified these results for the one-dimensional Airy and Pearcey beams, which accordingly to the catastrophe theory, their caustics are stable. Finally, we remark that for certain cases, the zeros of the Madelung-Bohm potential are linked with the superoscillation phenomenon.
