Constraining fractionality using some observational tests

Recently, a fractional version of the Schwarzschild-Tangherlini black hole with a fractal horizon has been introduced. Motivated by the key role of the Schwarzschild solution in gravitational and astrophysical studies, some consequences of this fractional-fractal generalization of the Schwarzschild black hole have been investigated. In this line, the corresponding i) Shapiro and Sagnac time delays, ii) shadow, iii) orbital precession, and iv) gravitational lensing are studied and confronted with observational data. MCMC analysis also unveils i) the potential of this metric in dealing with the solar-system tests and ii) the necessity of studying fractional spacetimes and objects.

Gravitational Collapse without Singularity Formation in Brans-Dicke Theory

In the present work we study collapse process of a homogeneous and isotropic fluid in Brans-Dicke ({BD}) theory with non-vanishing spacetime torsion. In this theory, torsion can be generated by the {BD} scalar field as well as the intrinsic angular momentum (spin) of matter. Assuming the matter content of the collapsing body to be a Weyssenhoff fluid, which is a generalization of perfect fluid in general relativity ({GR}) in order to include the spin effects, we find that in BD theory with torsion, the existence of spin effects could avoid the spacetime singularity that forms in the original version of this theory (Scheel et al. in Phys Rev D 51:4208, 1995, Scheel et al. in Phys Rev D 51:4236, 1995). Numerical simulations of collapse model show that the spacetime singularity is replaced by a non-singular bounce, the spacetime event at which the collapse process halts at a minimum radius and then turns into an expanding phase. Moreover, the model parameters can be set so that the apparent horizon will never meet the boundary of the collapsing body so that the bounce event can be detectable by external observers in the Universe.

The third law of thermodynamics, non-extensivity, and energy definition in black hole physics

Working in the framework of generalized statistics, the problem of establishing the third law of thermodynamics in the black hole physics is studied by focusing on Schwarzschild black hole which easily and clearly exposes the violation of this law in the common approach based on Bekenstein entropy. Additionally, it is addressed that some inconsistencies between the predictions of quantum field theory and thermodynamics about the black hole temperature may be reconciled by using the thermodynamics laws in order to broaden energy definition. It claims that thermodynamics should be employed as a powerful tool in looking for more comprehensive energy definitions in high-energy physics, still mysterious.

Generalized uncertainty principle and burning stars

Gamow's theory of the implications of quantum tunneling on the star burning has two cornerstones including quantum mechanics and equipartition theorem. It has vastly been proposed that both of these foundations are affected by the existence of a non-zero minimum for length which usually appears in quantum gravity scenarios and leads to the Generalized Uncertainty principle (GUP). Mathematically, in the framework of quantum mechanics, the effects of GUP are considered as perturbation terms. Here, generalizing the de Broglie wavelength relation in the presence of minimal length, GUP correction to the Gamow's temperature is calculated and in parallel, an upper bound for the GUP parameter is estimated.

On Some Applications of the Sagnac Effect

Considering exact spacetimes representing rotating black holes and naked singularities, we study the possibility that the Sagnac effect detects $i$) higher dimensions, $ii$) rotation of black holes in higher dimension, and also, $iii$) distinguishes black holes from naked singularities. The results indicate that the Sagnac time delay gets affected by the presence of extra-dimension or its associated angular momentum. This time delay is also different in the spacetime of a naked singularity compared to that of a black hole. Hence, the Sagnac effect may be used as an experiment for better understanding of spacetimes with higher dimensions or those that admit naked singularities.

Non-Singular Collapse Scenario From Matter-Curvature Coupling

In the present work we study spherically symmetric gravitational collapse of a homogeneous perfect fluid in the context of Generalized Rastall Theory (GRT). In this modified version of the original {Rastall Gravity (RG)}, the coupling parameter which is a representative of matter-curvature interaction is no longer a constant parameter. Such a dynamic coupling may play the role of dark energy which is responsible for the present accelerating expansion of the Universe. Assuming then a linear equation of state (EoS) for the fluid profiles, we seek for physically reasonable collapse scenarios in which the spacetime singularity that occurs in general relativity (GR) is replaced by a non-singular bounce. We therefore find that depending on model parameters, the collapse process which starts from regular initial data, will halt at a minimum value for the scale function and then turns into an expansion at a finite time. We further find that there exists a minimum value for the initial radius of collapsing object so that for radii smaller than this minimum radius, formation of apparent horizon can be avoided and hence the bounce can be visible to the observers within the Universe. We also compare our results to quantum corrected collapse scenarios and find that the mutual interaction between matter and geometry can play the role of quantum corrections to energy density.

Effects of Rastall parameter on perturbation of dark sectors of the Universe

In recent years, Rastall gravity is undergoing a considerable surge in popularity. This theory purports to be a modified gravity theory with a non-conserved energy-momentum tensor ({\rm EMT}) and an unusual non-minimal coupling between matter and geometry. The present work looks for the evolution of homogeneous spherical perturbations within the Universe in the context of Rastall gravity. Using the spherical Top-Hat collapse model we seek for exact solutions in linear regime for density contrast of dark matter (\rm DM) and dark energy ({\rm DE}). We find that the Rastall parameter affects crucially the dynamics of density contrasts for {\rm DM} and {\rm DE} and the fate of spherical collapse is different in comparison to the case of general relativity ({\rm GR}). Numerical solutions for perturbation equations in non-linear regime reveal that {\rm DE} perturbations could amplify the rate of growth of {\rm DM} perturbations depending on the values of Rastall parameter.

Kaniadakis Holographic Dark Energy in non-flat Universe

In present research, we construct Kaniadakis holographic dark energy (KHDE) model within a non-flat Universe by considering the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) metric with open and closed spatial geometries. We therefore investigate cosmic evolution by employing the density parameter of the dark energy (DE), the equation of state (EoS) parameter and the deceleration parameter (DP). The transition from decelerated to accelerated expanding phase for the KHDE Universe is explained through dynamical behavior of DP. With the classification of matter and DE dominated epochs, we find that the Universe thermal history can be defined through the KHDE scenario, and moreover, a phantom regime is experienceable. The model parameters are constrained by applying the newest $30$ data cases of $H(z)$ measurements, over the redshift span $0.07 \leq z \leq 2.36$, and the distance modulus measurement of the recent Union $2.1$ data set of type Ia supernovae. The classical stability of KHDE model has also been addressed.

Tsallis uncertainty

It has been recently shown that the Bekenstein entropy bound is not respected by the systems satisfying modified forms of Heisenberg uncertainty principle (HUP) including the generalized and extended uncertainty principles, or even their combinations. On the other, the use of generalized entropies, which differ from Bekenstein entropy, in describing gravity and related topics signals us to different equipartition expressions compared to the usual one. In that way, The mathematical form of an equipartition theorem can be related to the algebraic expression of a particular entropy, different from the standard Bekenstein entropy, initially chosen to describe the black hole event horizon, see E. M. C. Abreu et al., MPLA 32, 2050266 (2020). Motivated by these works, we address three new uncertainty principles leading to recently introduced generalized entropies. In addition, the corresponding energy-time uncertainty relations and Unruh temperatures are also calculated. As a result, it seems that systems described by generalized entropies, such as those of Tsallis, do not necessarily meet HUP and may satisfy modified forms of HUP.

Structure Formation in Generalized Rastall Gravity

Recently a modified version of Rastall theory of gravity has been introduced in which a varying coupling parameter could act as dark energy (DE) and thus, it can be held responsible for the current accelerated expansion of the Universe. Motivated by this modification, we study here the evolution of linear and non-linear perturbations in the matter content of the Universe, utilizing spherically symmetric top-hat collapse scenario. The exact solutions we obtain in linear regime show that as the Universe evolves, matter density perturbations grow and reach a maximum value at a certain redshift after which these perturbations start decreasing towards a finite positive value at the present time. Depending on model parameters, exact oscillatory solutions can be also found representing that matter perturbations could experience either overdense and underdense regions during the dynamical evolution of the Universe. Numerical solutions in non-linear regime show that the amplitude of perturbations grow much faster than the linear one and diverges at a critical redshift. However, the formation of collapsed structures is delayed as compared to $Λ${\rm CDM} model. It is found that the running mutual interaction between matter and geometry, encoded in the variable Rastall coupling parameter, could drastically affect the dynamics of matter perturbations and their growth rate during the evolution of the Universe.

Holographic dark energy in Rastall theory

Bearing holographic dark energy hypothesis in mind, the ability of vacuum energy in describing the current accelerated universe is studied in the framework of Rastall theory. Here, in addition to the ordinary approach in which it is expected that this energy plays the role of dark energy, we also address a new approach where the sum of this energy and Rastall term is responsible for the current accelerated universe. We also investigate the cosmological outcomes of using Tsallis entropy in quantifying the energy of fields in vacuum for both mentioned approaches. The implications of considering an interaction between the various segments of cosmic fluid have been addressed in each studied cases. The normalized Hubble parameter for the models have also been plotted and compared that with the H(z) data consisting of 41 data points in the redshift range of 0.07< z<2.36.

Generalized entropies and corresponding holographic dark energy models

Using Tsallis statistics and its relation with Boltzmann entropy, the Tsallis entropy content of black holes is achieved, a result in full agreement with a recent study (Phys. Lett. B 794, 24 (2019)). In addition, employing Kaniadakis statistics and its relation with that of Tsallis, the Kaniadakis entropy of black holes is obtained. The Sharma-Mittal and Rényi entropy contents of black holes are also addressed by employing their relations with Tsallis entropy. Thereinafter, relying on the holographic dark energy hypothesis and the obtained entropies, two new holographic dark energy models are introduced and their implications on the dynamics of a flat FRW universe are studied when there is also a pressureless fluid in background. In our setup, the apparent horizon is considered as the IR cutoff, and there is not any mutual interaction between the cosmic fluids. The results indicate that the obtained cosmological models have $i$) notable powers to describe the cosmic evolution from the matter-dominated era to the current accelerating universe, and $ii$) suitable predictions for the universe age.

Black hole solutions and Euler equation in Rastall and generalized Rastall theories of gravity

Focusing on the special case of generalized Rastall theory, as a subclass of the non-minimal curvature-matter coupling theories in which the field equations are mathematically similar to the Einstein field equations in the presence of cosmological constant, we find two classes of black hole (BH) solutions including $i$) conformally flat solutions and $ii$) non-singular BHs. Accepting the mass function definition and by using the entropy contents of the solutions along with thermodynamic definitions of temperature and pressure, we study the validity of Euler equation on the corresponding horizons. Our results show that the thermodynamic pressure, meeting the Euler equation, is not always equal to the pressure components appeared in the gravitational field equations and satisfies the first law of thermodynamics, a result which in fact depends on the presumed energy definition. The requirements of having solutions with equal thermodynamic and Hawking temperatures are also studied. Additionally, we study the conformally flat BHs in the Rastall framework. The consequences of employing generalized Misner-Sharp mass in studying the validity of the Euler equation are also addressed.

Tsallis holographic dark energy in Fractal Universe

We study the cosmological consequences of interacting Tsallis holographic dark energy model in the framework of the fractal universe, in which, the Hubble radius is considered as the IR cut-off. We drive the equation of state (EoS) parameter, deceleration parameter and the evolution equation for the Tsallis holographic dark energy density parameter. Our study shows that this model can describe the current accelerating Universe in both noninteracting and interacting scenarios, and also a transition occurs from the deceleration phase to the accelerated phase, at the late time. Finally, we check the compatibility of free parameters of the model with the latest observational results by using the Pantheon supernovae data, eBOSS, 6df, BOSS DR12, CMB Planck 2015, Gamma-Ray Burst.

The generalized and extended uncertainty principles and their implications on the Jeans mass

The generalized and extended uncertainty principles affect the Newtonian gravity and also the geometry of the thermodynamic phase space. Under the influence of the latter, the energy-temperature relation of ideal gas may change. Moreover, it seems that the Newtonian gravity is modified in the framework of the Rényi entropy formalism motivated by both the long-range nature of gravity, and the extended uncertainty principle. Here, the consequences of employing the generalized and extended uncertainty principles, instead of the Heisenberg uncertainty principle, on the Jeans mass are studied. The results of working in the Rényi entropy formalism are also addressed. It is shown that unlike the extended uncertainty principle and the Rényi entropy formalism which lead to the same increase in the Jeans mass, the generalized uncertainty principle can decrease it. The latter means that a cloud with mass smaller than the standard Jeans mass, obtained in the framework of the Newtonian gravity, may also undergo the gravitational collapse process.

Black hole thermodynamics in the Sharma-Mittal generalized entropy formalism

Using the Sharma-Mittal entropy, we study some properties of the Schwarzschild and Schwarzschild-de Sitter black holes. The results are compared with those obtained by attributing the Bekenstein entropy bound to the mentioned black holes. Our main results show that while the Schwarzschild black hole is always stable in the micro-canonical ensemble, it can be stable in the canonical ensemble if its mass is bigger than the mass of the coldest Schwarzschild black hole. A semi-classical analysis has also been used to find an approximate relation between the entropy free parameters. Throughout the paper, we use units $c=G=\hbar=k_B=1$, where $k_B$ denotes the Boltzmann constant.

The extended uncertainty principle inspires the Rényi entropy

We use the extended uncertainty principle (EUP) in order to obtain the Rényi entropy for a black hole (BH). The result implies that the non-extensivity parameter, appeared in the Rényi entropy formalism, may be evaluated from the considerations which lead to EUP. It is also shown that, for excited BHs, the Rényi entropy is a function of the BH principal quantum number, i.e. the BH quantum excited state. Temperature and heat capacity of the excited BHs are also investigated addressing two phases while only one of them can be stable. At this situation, whereas entropy is vanished, temperature may take a non-zero positive minimum value, depending on the value of the non-extensivity parameter. The evaporation time of excited BH has also been studied.

Gravitational Collapse in Rastall Gravity

We study spherically symmetric gravitational collapse of a homogeneous perfect fluid in Rastall gravity. Considering a linear equation of state (EoS) for the fluid profiles, we examine the conditions under which the collapse scenario could end in a spacetime singularity. Depending on the model parameters, the singularity could be either naked or covered by a horizon. We find that a non-vanishing Rastall parameter could affect the formation of apparent horizon so that, naked singularities may form for those values of EoS parameter for which a homogeneous perfect fluid collapse in general relativity (GR) terminates at the black hole formation. Hence the visibility of the resulting singularity depends on the Rastall parameter. The solutions we obtain respect the weak energy condition (WEC) which is crucial for physical validity of the model.
