Black hole mass and distance from accretion disk astrophysical observables

In this work we derive novel analytical expressions for the mass and distance of a Schwarzschild black hole (BH), as well as for the orbital radius of test particles orbiting it, it terms of astrophysical observables measured throughout the entire orbit of the revolving particle. We use a general relativistic method to describe the frequency shifts of photons emitted in the vivinity of a BH by considering two emitters (or two positions of the same emitter) located symmetrically opposite to each other with respect to the observer's line of sight (LOS) when performing measurements along the orbit. Furthermore, the introduction of the redshift rapidity allows us to write independent expressions for the BH mass and its distance to Earth. We also extend our study to the case when astrophysical systems have a peculiar motion and derive the corresponding closed formulas.

Estimating the mass-to-distance ratio for a set of megamaser AGN black holes by employing a general relativistic method

Context. Motivated by the recent achievements of a full general relativistic method in determining black hole (BH) parameters, we continue to estimate the mass-to-distance ratio of the supermassive BHs hosted at the core of the active galactic nuclei (AGNs) of the megamaser galaxies NGC 1320, NGC 1194, NGC 5495, and Mrk 1029. Aims. Our aim is to study the properties of super massive BHs at the centers of the selected AGNs by using a full general relativistic method that allows us to address the potential detection of relativistic effects within such astrophysical systems. Methods. In order to perform statistical estimations with publicly available observational data, we used a general relativistic model that describes BH rotation curves and further employed a Bayesian fitting method. Results. We estimated the mass-to-distance ratio of the aforementioned BHs, their position and the recessional redshifts of the host galaxies produced by both peculiar motion and cosmological expansion of the Universe. Finally, we calculated the gravitational redshift of the closest maser to the BH for each AGN. This gravitational redshift is a general relativistic effect produced by the gravitational field of the BH properly included in the modelling.

Configurational entropy of generalized sine-Gordon-type models

A family of deformed models of the sine-Gordon-type can be generated by twisting the sine-Gordon model. As a particular case, the 3-sine-Gordon model is here addressed, whose differential configurational entropy and the differential configurational complexity of three topological sectors are discussed, using two complementary approaches. Stability aspects are also discussed.

A general relativistic mass-to-distance ratio for a set of megamaser AGN black holes

In this work we perform a Bayesian statistical fit to estimate the mass-to-distance ratio and the recessional redshift of 10 different black holes hosted at the centre of active galactic nuclei, namely the galaxies NGC 5765b, NGC 6323, UGC 3789, CGCG 074-064, ESO 558-G009, NGC 2960, NGC 6264, NGC 4388, J0437+2456 and NGC 2273. Our general relativistic method makes use of the positions in the sky and frequency shift observations of water megamasers circularly orbiting the central black hole on their accretion disks. This approach also allows us to quantify the gravitational redshift which is not considered in a Newtonian analysis. The gravitational redshift of the megamasers closest to the black hole is found to be within the range 1-6 km/s. The order of the fitted black hole masses corresponds to supermassive black holes and lies on the range $10^6 - 10^7$ M_{sun}

The Higgs mechanism and geometrical flows for two-manifolds

Using Perelman's approach for geometrical flows in terms of an entropy functional, the Higgs mechanism is studied dynamically along flows defined in the space of parameters and in fields space. The model corresponds to two-dimensional gravity that incorporates torsion as the gradient of a Higgs field, and with the reflection symmetry to be spontaneously broken. The results show a discrete mass spectrum, and the existence of a mass gap between the Unbroken Exact Symmetry and the Spontaneously Broken Symmetry scenarios. In the later scenario, the geometries at the degenerate vacua correspond to conformally flat manifolds without torsion; twisted two-dimensional geometries are obtained by building perturbation theory around a ground state; the tunneling quantum probability between vacua is determined along the flows.

Hyperbolic symmetries, inflaton-phantom cosmology, and inflation

Using a hyperbolic complex plane, we study the realization of the underlying hyperbolic symmetry as an internal symmetry that enables the unification of scalar fields of cosmological and particle physics interest. Such an unification is achieved along the universal prescriptions used in physics, avoiding the use of concepts as Euclideanization, non-canonical Lagrangians and hidden structures, that have appeared in other approaches. The scalar potentials constructed within the present scheme are bounded from below, and the realization of the spontaneous symmetry breaking of the aforementioned noncompact symmetry is studied. The profiles of these potentials with exact/broken hyperbolic symmetry replicate qualitative aspects of those ones used in inflationary models, and then a detailed com\-pa\-ri\-son is made. Moreover, the homotopy constraints of the topology induced on the corresponding vacuum manifolds, restricts the existence of topological defects associated with continuous symmetries, allowing only those defects associated with discrete symmetries; the consistency of these results is contrasted with current observational tests from the LIGO/Virgo collaboration, and terrestrial experiments based on a synchronized network of atomic magnetometers. At the end, the nonre\-la\-tivistic limit of the model is identified with a hyperbolic version of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation.

Constructing Lifshitz spaces using the Ricci flow

In this work we make use of the Ricci flow equations to show that, by starting from a general ansatz for the metric, we can construct two kinds of Lifshitz spaces in which: (a) the critical exponent coincides with the spatial dimension of the spacetime and therefore adopts discrete values, and (b) the critical exponent is continuous and arbitrary. These results show that Lifshitz spaces are exact solutions to the Ricci flow equations. Moreover, we found that the Ricci flow evolves towards a single fixed point for both cases which coincides with the flat spacetime.

Towards the quantization of the non-relativistic D2-brane in the Pure Spinor Formalism

An attempt is made to apply the pure spinor formalism to the non-relativistic IIA D2-brane. The fermionic constraints corresponding to the rescaled fermionic coordinates are given. Two commuting spinor fields are introduced, each one corresponding to a fermionic constraint. A BRST charge is constructed via the ansatz proposed by N. Berkovits. The nilpotency of the BRST charge leads to a set of constraints for the two spinor fields including pure spinor constraints. A novel non-trivial solution is given for one of the spinor fields which can be written as a sum of two pure spinors.

Dynamical tachyonic AdS/QCD and information entropy

The configurational entropy setup is employed to study dynamical tachyonic holographic AdS/QCD models. The phenomenology of light-flavour mesonic states is then corroborated by the Shannon's information. Tachyonic bulk corrections to the dynamical AdS/QCD show more dominant and abundant dual mesonic states in the 4D boundary QCD, when compared to the dual mesons in the standard dynamical AdS/QCD. Entropic Regge-like trajectories are also emulated.

Evolution and metric signature change of maximally symmetric spaces under the Ricci flow

In this work we present solutions to the Ricci flow equations in arbitrary dimensions, particularizing for the $3d$ and $4d$ cases. We start by considering the $3d$ case and note that our solutions belong to the family of maximally symmetric spaces that can be extended to the $d\geq 4$ case following an analogue treatment. These solutions can be divided into two scenarios: maximally symmetric spaces with positive curvature i.e. de Sitter spaces, and maximally symmetric spaces with negative curvature i.e. Anti-de Sitter spaces. We show that between both scenarios there is a {\it critical point} where the curvature blows up along the flow. Also the solutions for $d\geq 4$ satisfy the flow equations with Riemannian or pseudo-Riemannian metrics due to the fact that the considered maximally symmetric spaces do not depend on time neither on the angular coordinates yielding equations that depend only on the radial coordinate and the Ricci flow parameter. Additionally we find an interesting effect of the flow consisting in a change of the signature of the metric when passing the singular point. Besides the signature change, the sign of the curvature also experiences a transition from positive to negative curvature, either with Riemannian or pseudo-Riemannian metrics throughout the singular point.

Hyperbolic deformation of a gauge field theory and the hierarchy problem

The problem of the gauge hierarchy is brought up in a hypercomplex scheme for a U(1) field theory; in such a scheme a compact gauge group is deformed through a γ-parameter that varies along a non-compact internal direction, transverse to the U(1) compact one, and thus an additional SO(1,1) gauge symmetry is incorporated. This transverse direction can be understood as an extra internal dimension, which will control the spontaneous symmetry breakdown, and will allow us to establish a mass hierarchy. In this mechanism there is no brane separation to be stabilized as in the braneworld paradigm, however, a different kind of fine-tuning is needed in order to generate the wished electroweak/Planck hierarchy. By analyzing the effective self-interactions and mass terms of the theory, an interesting duality is revealed between the real and hybrid parts of the effective potential. This duality relates the weak and strong self-interaction regimes of the theory, due to the fact that both mass terms and self-coupling constants appear as one-parameter flows in γ. Additionally the γ-deformation will establish a flow for the electromagnetic coupling that mimics the renormalization group flow for the charge in QED.

Regular Bulk Solutions in Brane-worlds with Inhomogeneous Dust and Generalized Dark Radiation

From the dynamics of a brane-world with matter fields present in the bulk, the bulk metric and the black string solution near the brane are generalized, when both the dynamics of inhomogeneous dust/generalized dark radiation on the brane-world and inhomogeneous dark radiation in the bulk as well are considered -- as exact dynamical collapse solutions. Based on the analysis on the inhomogeneous static exterior of a collapsing sphere of homogeneous dark radiation on the brane, the associated black string warped horizon is studied, as well as the 5D bulk metric near the brane. Moreover, the black string and the bulk are shown to be more regular upon time evolution, for suitable values for the dark radiation parameter in the model, by analyzing the physical soft singularities.

On a class of Fock-like representations for Lie Superalgebras

Utilizing Lie superalgebra (LS) realizations via the Relative Parabose Set algebra $P_{BF}$, combined with earlier results on the Fock-like representations of $P_{BF}^{(1,1)}$, we proceed to the construction of a family of Fock-like representations of LSs: these are infinite dimensional, decomposable super-representations, which are parameterized by the value of a positive integer $p$. They can be constructed for any LS $L$, either initiating from a given 2-dimensional, $\mathbb{Z}_{2}$-graded representation of $L$ or using its inclusion as a subalgebra of $P_{BF}^{(1,1)}$. As an application we proceed in studying decompositions with respect to various low-dimensional Lie algebras and superalgebras.

Graded Fock--like representations for a system of algebraically interacting paraparticles

We will present an algebra describing a mixed paraparticle model, known in the bibliography as "The Relative Parabose Set (\textsc{Rpbs})". Focusing in the special case of a single parabosonic and a single parafermionic degree of freedom $P_{BF}^{(1,1)}$, we will study a class of Fock--like representations of this algebra, dependent on a positive integer parameter p (a kind of generalized parastatistics order). Mathematical properties of the Fock--like modules will be investigated for all values of p and constructions such as ladder operators, irreducibility (for the carrier spaces) and Klein group gradings (for both the carrier spaces and the algebra itself) will be established.

Ladder operators, Fock-spaces, irreducibility and group gradings for the Relative Parabose Set algebra

The Fock-like representations of the Relative Parabose Set (\textsc{Rpbs}) algebra in a single parabosonic and a single parafermionic degree of freedom are investigated. It is shown that there is an infinite family (parametrized by the values of a positive integer $p$) of infinite dimensional, non-equivalent, irreducible representations. For each one of them, explicit expressions are computed for the action of the generators and they are shown to be ladder operators (creation-annihilation operators) on the specified Fock-spaces. It is proved that each one of these inf. dim. Fock-spaces is irreducible under the action of the whole algebra or in other words that it is a simple module over the \textsc{Rpbs} algebra. Finally, $(\mathbb{Z}_{2} \times \mathbb{Z}_{2})$-gradings are introduced for both the algebra $P_{BF}^{(1,1)}$ and the Fock-spaces, the constructed representations are shown to be $(\mathbb{Z}_{2} \times \mathbb{Z}_{2})$-graded, $P_{BF}^{(1,1)}$-modules and the relation between our present approach and similar works in the literature is briefly discussed.

Super-Hopf realizations of Lie Superalgebras: Braided Paraparticle extensions of the Jordan-Schwinger map

The mathematical structure of a mixed paraparticle system (combining both parabosonic and parafermionic degrees of freedom) commonly known as the Relative Parabose Set, will be investigated and a braided group structure will be described for it. A new family of realizations of an arbitrary Lie superalgebra will be presented and it will be shown that these realizations possess the valuable representation-theoretic property of transferring invariably the super-Hopf structure. Finally two classes of virtual applications will be outlined: The first is of interest for both mathematics and mathematical physics and deals with the representation theory of infinite dimensional Lie superalgebras, while the second is of interest in theoretical physics and has to do with attempts to determine specific classes of solutions of the Skyrme model.

Aspects of thick brane worlds: 4D gravity localization, smoothness, and mass gap

We review some interrelated aspects of thick brane worlds constructed within the framework of 5D gravity coupled to a scalar field depending on the extra dimension. It turns out that when analyzing localization of 4D gravity in this smooth version of the Randall-Sundrum model, a kind of dichotomy emerges. In the first case the geometry is completely smooth and the spectrum of metric fluctuations shows a single massless bound state, corresponding to the 4D graviton, and a tower of massive states described by a continuous spectrum of Kaluza-Klein excitations starting from zero mass, indicating the lack of a mass gap. In the second case, there are two bound states, a massless 4D graviton and a massive excitation, separated by a mass gap from a continuous spectrum of massive modes; nevertheless, the presence of a mass gap in the graviton spectrum of the theory is responsible for a naked singularity at the boundaries (or spatial infinity) of the Riemannian manifold. However, the imposition of unitary boundary conditions, which is equivalent to eliminating the continuous spectrum of gravitational massive modes, renders these singularities harmless from the physical point of view, providing the viability of the model.
