Conclusions of the MITP Workshop on T Violation and CPT Tests in Neutral-Meson Systems

The conclusions summarize the main, but not all, aspects of a two-days workshop held at MITP Mainz. The four covered aspects are T violation in decays of neutral B mesons, T and CPT studies in B0B0bar transitions with Belle, future measurements of T violation in B and D decays, and direct tests of T and CPT symmetries in the entangled neutral Kaon system at a ?Phi factory.

Report of the Quark Flavor Physics Working Group

This report represents the response of the Intensity Frontier Quark Flavor Physics Working Group to the Snowmass charge. We summarize the current status of quark flavor physics and identify many exciting future opportunities for studying the properties of strange, charm, and bottom quarks. The ability of these studies to reveal the effects of new physics at high mass scales make them an essential ingredient in a well-balanced experimental particle physics program.

Bounding hadronic uncertainties in $c\to u$ decays

Time-dependent CP asymmetry measurements in $D\to h^+h^-$ decays, where $h=π$ or $ρ$ can be used to constrain the angle $β_c$ of the $cu$ unitarity triangle up to theoretical uncertainties. Here we discuss the theoretical uncertainty from penguin contributions that can be mitigated through the use of isospin analyses. We show that uncertainty from penguin pollution on a measurement of $β_c$ (or alternatively the mixing phase) in $D^0\to π^+π^-$ ($ρ^+ρ^-$) decays is $2.7^\circ$ ($4.6^\circ$). We also comment on the applicability of this method to $D^0\toρπ$ decays for which measurements of weak phases with a precision below the one degree level may be possible.

The UTfit Collaboration Average of D meson mixing data: Spring 2012

We derive constraints on the parameters $M_{12}$, $Γ_{12}$ and $Φ_{12}$ that describe $D$ meson mixing using all available data, allowing for CP violation. We also provide posterior distributions and predictions for observable parameters appearing in $D$ physics.

Fundamental Physics at the Intensity Frontier

The Proceedings of the 2011 workshop on Fundamental Physics at the Intensity Frontier. Science opportunities at the intensity frontier are identified and described in the areas of heavy quarks, charged leptons, neutrinos, proton decay, new light weakly-coupled particles, and nucleons, nuclei, and atoms.

The SuperB Physics Programme

SuperB is a proposed high luminosity Super Flavour Factory capable of accumulating 75/ab of data at the Y(4S) as well as at other center of mass energies. These proceedings summarise highlights of the SuperB physics programme, and in particular there is emphasis on the unique aspects of SuperB over other planned or existing experiments.

Flavor Physics in the Quark Sector

One of the major challenges of particle physics has been to gain an in-depth understanding of the role of quark flavor and measurements and theoretical interpretations of their results have advanced tremendously: apart from masses and quantum numbers of flavor particles, there now exist detailed measurements of the characteristics of their interactions allowing stringent tests of Standard Model predictions. Among the most interesting phenomena of flavor physics is the violation of the CP symmetry that has been subtle and difficult to explore. Till early 1990s observations of CP violation were confined to neutral $K$ mesons, but since then a large number of CP-violating processes have been studied in detail in neutral $B$ mesons. In parallel, measurements of the couplings of the heavy quarks and the dynamics for their decays in large samples of $K, D$, and $B$ mesons have been greatly improved in accuracy and the results are being used as probes in the search for deviations from the Standard Model. In the near future, there will be a transition from the current to a new generation of experiments, thus a review of the status of quark flavor physics is timely. This report summarizes the results of the current generation of experiments that is about to be completed and it confronts these results with the theoretical understanding of the field.

Flavour Physics at B-factories and other machines

I review some of the highlights of results from non-hadron collider flavor experiments shown at the EPS conference in the summer of 2009. These include highlights of the latest results from the BaBar and Belle B-factories, CLEO-c, BES-III, NA48, KTeV, KLOE, NA62, MEG, and mu to e conversion experiments.

The measurement of alpha from the B-factories

Significant progress toward measuring the CKM angle alpha has been made by the B-factories over the past decade. This work has culminated in a constraint on alpha with a precision of less than 4 degrees.

The SuperB Experiment

In these proceedings I briefly introduce the project prior to discussing the physics programme of the SuperB high luminosity e+e- collider. By measuring the golden matrix SuperB will be able to elucidate and constrain the nature of physics beyond the Standard Model.

SuperB

An overview of the SuperB project and its physics programme is presented. There are many new physics sensitive observables that can be measured at a high luminosity e+e- collider operating near a centre of mass energy of ~10 GeV, and many new physics scenarios to test in the literature. Together these form a golden matrix of observables versus scenarios. Each scenario has its it's own golden channel(s) and the pattern of deviations from Standard Model behaviour that will be measured by SuperB can be used to home in on the new physics scenario describing nature at high energies.

The Physics Case Of The SuperB Facility

The physics case of the SuperB facility with design luminosity of 10^36 cm^-2 s^-1 is compelling. Such a facility has a rich and varied potential to probe physics beyond the Standard Model. These new physics constraints are obtained through the study of the rare or Standard Model forbidden decays of B_u,d,s, D and tau particles. The highlights of this wide-ranging physics programme are discussed in these proceedings.

The Super Flavor Factory

The main physics goals of a high luminosity e+e- flavor factory are discussed, including the possibilities to perform detailed studies of the CKM mechanism of quark mixing, and constrain virtual Higgs and non-standard model particle contributions to the dynamics of rare B_u,d,s decays. The large samples of $D$ mesons and tau leptons produced at a flavor factory will result in improved sensitivities on D mixing and lepton flavor violation searches, respectively. One can also test fundamental concepts such as lepton universality to much greater precision than existing constraints and improve the precision on tests of CPT from B meson decays. Recent developments in accelerator physics have demonstrated the feasibility to build an accelerator that can achieve luminosities of O(10^36) cm^-2 s^-1.

Measurement of alpha / phi_2 from B to pi pi decays

The current results on B to pipi decays and SU2 constraints on the Unitarity Triangle angle alpha or phi_2 from the B-factories are summarised. Based on these measurements, predictions of the isospin analysis constraints at the end of the lifetime of both B-factories are given.

Rare hadronic B decays

Rare hadronic B-meson decays allow us to study CP violation. The class of B decays final states containing two vector mesons provides a rich set of angular correlation observables to study. This article reviews some of the recent experimental results from the BaBar and Belle collaborations.
