Double to tenfold M-shell photoionization of singly charged lanthanum ions

Using the photon-ion merged-beams technique at the PETRA\,III synchrotron light source, we have measured cross sections for double and up to tenfold photoionization of La$^{+}$ ions by a single photon in the energy range 820--1400~eV, where resonances and thresholds occur that are associated with the excitation or ionization of one $M$-shell electron. These cross sections represent experimental benchmark data for the further development of quantum theoretical methods, which will have to provide the bulk of the atomic data required for the modeling of nonequilibrium plasmas such as kilonovae. In the present work, we have upgraded the Jena Atomic Calculator (JAC) and pushed the state-of-the-art of quantum calculations for heavy many-electron systems to new limits. In particular, we have performed large-scale calculations of the La$^+$ photoabsorption cross section and of the deexcitation cascades, which set in after the initial creation of a $3d$ hole. Our theoretical results largely agree with our experimental findings. However, our theoretical product-ion charge state distributions are somewhat narrower than the experimental ones, which is most probably due to the simplifications necessary to keep the cascade calculations tractable.

Inelastic scattering of vortex electrons beyond the Born approximation

We present a theoretical study of the inelastic scattering of vortex electrons by a hydrogen atom. In our study, special emphasis is placed on the effects of the Coulomb interaction between a projectile electron and a target atom. To understand these effects, we construct vortex electron wave functions both from free space and distorted solutions of the Schrödinger equation. These wave functions give rise to the first Born and distorted wave scattering amplitudes, respectively. The derived theory has been employed to investigate the $1s \rightarrow 2p$ transition of a hydrogen atom induced by electrons with the kinetic energies in the range from 20 to 100 eV. The results of the calculations have clearly indicated that the Coulomb interaction can significantly affect the phase pattern and probability density of a vortex electron beam as well as the squared transition amplitudes. For the latter, the most pronounced effect was found for the excitation to the $\ket{2p\, m_f=0}$ sublevel and large scattering angles.

Coefficient estimates of certain subclasses of analytic functions associated with Hohlov operator

A typical quandary in geometric functions theory is to study a functional composed of amalgamations of the coefficients of the pristine function. Conventionally, there is a parameter over which the extremal value of the functional is needed. The present paper deals with consequential functional of this type. By making use of linear operator due to Hohlov \cite{6}, a new subclass $\mathcal{R}_{a,b}^{c}$ of analytic functions defined in the open unit disk is introduced. For both real and complex parameter, the sharp bounds for the Fekete-Szegö problems are found. An attempt has also been taken to found the sharp upper bound to the second and third Hankel determinant for functions belonging to this class. All the extremal functions are express in term of Gauss hypergeometric function and convolution. Finally, the sufficient condition for functions to be in $\mathcal{R}_{a,b}^{c}$ is derived. Relevant connections of the new results with well known ones are pointed out.
