First Associated Neutrino Search for a Failed Supernova Candidate with Super-Kamiokande

In 2024, a failed supernova candidate, M31-2014-DS1, was reported in the Andromeda galaxy (M31), located at a distance of approximately 770 kpc. In this paper, we search for neutrinos from this failed supernova using data from Super-Kamiokande (SK). Based on the estimated time of black hole formation inferred from optical and infrared observations, we define a search window for neutrino events in the SK data. Using this window, we develop a dedicated analysis method for failed supernovae and apply it to M31-2014-DS1, by conducting a cluster search using the timing and energy information of candidate events. No significant neutrino excess is observed within the search region. Consequently, we place an upper limit on the electron antineutrino luminosity from M31-2014-DS1 and discuss its implications for various failed SN models and their neutrino emission characteristics. Despite the 18 MeV threshold adopted to suppress backgrounds, the search remains sufficiently sensitive to constrain the Shen-TM1 EOS, yielding a 90% confidence level upper limit of 1.76 \times 10^{53} erg on the electron antineutrino luminosity, slightly above the expected value of 1.35 \times 10^{53} erg.

NMR Studies on the Superconducting Symmetry of Iron Pnictide Systems

NMR longitudinal relaxation rates 1/T1 and Knight shifts K have been measured for superconducting samples of LaFe1-yCoyAsO1-xFx with y=0.0 and 0.0075 and for a nonsuperconducting metallic sample with y=0.1, where the x values are always fixed at 0.11. The temperature (T) dependence the relaxation rates 1/T1 of the superconducting samples has been found to be markedly different from the behavior 1/T1 T^(2.5-3.0) reported by many groups in the entire T range measured (from the temperature immediately below the superconducting transition temperature Tc down to (0.1-0.2)Tc). The nonexistence of the coherence peak has also been found. Based on the results of the measurements and other kinds of existing data, arguments are presented on the superconducting symmetry of the Fe pnictide systems, where the several points which cannot be easily understood by existing theories, are pointed out. Results of the measurements on the nonsuperconducting metallic samples are also presented.

Distinct transport behaviors of LaFe1-yCoyAsO1-xFx (x=0.11) between the superconducting and nonsuperconducting metallic y regions divided by y ~ 0.05

Electrical resistivities, Hall coefficients and thermoelectric powers have been measured for polycrystalline samples of LaFe1-yCoyAsO1-xFx (x=0.11) with various values of y. The results show that there exists clear distinction of these transport behaviors between the superconducting and nonsuperconducting metallic regions of y divided by the boundary value yc~0.05. We have found that the behaviors in both regions are very similar to those of high-Tc Cu oxides in the corresponding phases. If they reflect, as in the case of Cu oxides, effects of strong magnetic fluctuations, the energy scale of the fluctuations is considered to be smaller than that of the high Cu oxides by a factor of ~1/2. Arguments on the electronic nature and superconducting symmetry are presented on the basis of the observed small rate of the Tc suppression rate by the Co doping.
