Soft photon registration at Nuclotron

First results of a soft photon yield in nucleus-nuclear interactions at 3.5 GeV per nucleon are presented. These photons have been registered at Nuclotron (LHEP, JINR) by an electromagnetic calorimeter built in the SVD Collaboration. The obtained spectra confirm the excess yield in the energy region less than 50 MeV in comparison with theoretical predictions and agree with previous experiments at high-energy interactions.

Detection of $D^{\pm}$ mesons production in pA-interactions at 70 GeV

The results of analysis SERP-E-184 experiment data, obtained with 70 GeV proton beam irradiation of active target with carbon, silicon and lead plates are presented. For 3-prongs charged charmed mesons decays, event selection criteria were developed and detection efficiency was calculated with detailed simulation using FRITIOF7.02 and GEANT3.21 programs. Signals of decays were found and charm production inclusive cross sections estimated at near threshold energy. The lifetimes and A-dependence of cross section were measured. Yields of D mesons and their ratios in comparison with data of other experiments and theoretical predictions are presented.

Registration of neutral charmed mesons production and their decays in pA-interactions at 70 GeV with SVD-2 setup

The results of data handling for E-184 experiment obtained with 70 GeV proton beam irradiation of active target with carbon, silicon and lead plates are presented. Two-prongs neutral charmed D0 and Ď0 -mesons decays were selected. Signal / background ratio was (51+/-17) / (38+/-13). Registration efficiency for mesons was defined and evaluation for charm production cross section at threshold energy is presented: sigma(cĉ) = 7.1 +/- 2.4(stat.) +/- 1.4(syst.) (μ/nucleon).

Traces of Mirror Symmetry in Nature

In this work we discuss the place of Veneziano amplitudes (the precursor of string models) and their generalizations in the Regge theory of high energy physics scattering processes. We emphasize that mathematically such amplitudes and their extensions can be interpreted in terms of the Laplace (respectively, miultiple Laplace) transform(s) of generating function for the Ehrhart polynomial associated with some integral polytope P (specific for each scattering process). Following works by Batyrev and Hibi to each polytope P it is possible to associate another (mirror) polytope P'. For this to happen, it is nesessary to impose some conditions on P and, hence, on the generating function for P. Since each of these polytopes is in fact encodes some projective toric variety, this information is used for development of new symplectic and supersymmetric models reproducing the Veneziano amplitudes. General ideas are illustrated on classical example of the pion-pion scattering for which the existing experimental data can be naturally explained with help of mirror symmetry arguments.
