LLM-Guided Program Evolution for Targeted Black-Box Attacks on Perceptual Hash Algorithms

Perceptual hash algorithms (PHAs) are widely deployed to detect image forgery under benign transformations, yet their robustness against adversarially chosen perturbations remains poorly understood and rarely comes with provable guarantees. We propose a novel evolutionary framework based on GigaEvo and OpenEvolve for targeted second-image attacks on perceptual hash algorithms. We assess attack performance using a composite score that jointly accounts for the fraction of adversarial images whose normalized Hamming distance to the target hash falls below threshold p (Attack Success Rate), the number of queries issued to the hash function, and the L2 distortion relative to the original image. Experiments on four deployed PHAs (pHash, PDQ, PhotoDNA, NeuralHash) across 30 ImageNet image pairs demonstrate that our evolutionary approach achieves comparable or better ASR than existing black-box baselines using substantially fewer queries to the hash function, while simultaneously producing adversarial images with lower L2 distortion relative to the originals. The best evolved programs reduce the pre-defined composite attack score relative to the best optimized seed by 41.2% for NeuralHash, 38.3% for PDQ, 34.0% for pHash, and 8.1% for PhotoDNA. Unlike gradient-based methods, our framework requires no internal knowledge of PHA architectures and naturally handles the non-differentiable, discretized nature of hash outputs. These results reveal previously unreported vulnerabilities in widely deployed content-moderation pipelines and motivate the development of provably robust perceptual hashing 1schemes.

Earliest simultaneous multi-color optical observations of GRB 230328B: from 41 seconds to the host-galaxy identification

We present a multiwavelength study of the long-duration gamma-ray burst GRB 230328B, combining prompt gamma-ray observations with exceptionally early simultaneous optical photometry and extensive X-ray, radio, and host-galaxy follow-up. NUTTELA- TAO began simultaneous g'r'i' observations only 41 s after the Swift/BAT trigger, corresponding to approximately 16 s in the rest frame for the adopted host-galaxy photometric redshift of z_phot = 1.54+-0.06. Unlike sequential multiband measurements, these observations provide an instantaneous optical spectral slope without temporal-interpolation uncertainties. The early optical continuum remains statistically consistent with a constant slope from approximately 10^2 to 7*10^3 s, providing no evidence for rapid dust destruction. The absence of significant color evolution across the pronounced optical rebrightening at approximately 4*10^3 s demonstrates that it is achromatic and favours a dynamical rather than spectral origin. Broadband modelling shows that the optical, X-ray, and radio evolution can be broadly explained by forward-shock emission with late energy injection, although alternative scenarios cannot be excluded. The red optical continuum is consistent with substantial line-of-sight extinction in a massive, dusty host galaxy. Late-time observations are insufficient to constrain a typical GRB-associated supernova at the adopted redshift. GRB 230328B therefore provides a benchmark for connecting the earliest simultaneous optical colors with afterglow dynamics and the host environment of a representative long GRB.

Histological images segmentation of mucous glands

Mucous glands lesions analysis and assessing of malignant potential of colon polyps are very important tasks of surgical pathology. However, differential diagnosis of colon polyps often seems impossible by classical methods and it is necessary to involve computer methods capable of assessing minimal differences to extend the capabilities of the classical pathology examination. Accurate segmentation of mucous glands from histology images is a crucial step to obtain reliable morphometric criteria for quantitative diagnostic methods. We review major trends in histological images segmentation and design a new convolutional neural network for mucous gland segmentation.

Prompt, early, and afterglow optical observations of five gamma-ray bursts (GRBs 100901A, 100902A, 100905A, 100906A, and 101020A)

We present results of the prompt, early, and afterglow optical observations of five gamma-ray bursts, GRBs 100901A, 100902A, 100905A, 100906A, and 101020A, made with the Mobile Astronomical System of TElescope-Robots in Russia (MASTER-II net), the 1.5-m telescope of Sierra-Nevada Observatory, and the 2.56-m Nordic Optical Telescope. For two sources, GRB 100901A and GRB 100906A, we detected optical counterparts and obtained light curves starting before cessation of gamma-ray emission, at 113 s and 48 s after the trigger, respectively. Observations of GRB 100906A were conducted with two polarizing filters. Observations of the other three bursts gave the upper limits on the optical flux; their properties are briefly discussed. More detailed analysis of GRB 100901A and GRB 100906A supplemented by Swift data provides the following results and indicates different origins of the prompt optical radiation in the two bursts. The light curves patterns and spectral distributions suggest a common production site of the prompt optical and high-energy emission in GRB 100901A. Results of spectral fits for GRB 100901A in the range from the optical to X-rays favor power-law energy distributions with similar values of the optical extinction in the host galaxy. GRB 100906A produced a smoothly peaking optical light curve suggesting that the prompt optical radiation in this GRB originated in a front shock. This is supported by a spectral analysis. We have found that the Amati and Ghirlanda relations are satisfied for GRB 100906A. An upper limit on the value of the optical extinction on the host of GRB 100906A is obtained.
