Measurements of branching fractions of $Λ_c^+ \to Σ^+ η$ and $Λ_c^+ \to Σ^+ η'$ and asymmetry parameters of $Λ_c^+ \to Σ^+ π^0$, $Λ_c^+ \to Σ^+ η$, and $Λ_c^+ \to Σ^+ η'$

We report a study of $Λ_c^+ \to Σ^+ π^0$, $Λ_c^+ \to Σ^+ η$, and $Λ_c^+ \to Σ^+ η'$ using the data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 980 $\rm fb^{-1}$ collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider. The branching fractions relative to $Λ_c^+ \to Σ^+ π^0$ are measured as: $\mathcal{B}_{Λ_c^+ \to Σ^+ η}/\mathcal{B}_{Λ_c^+ \to Σ^+ π^0}=0.25 \pm 0.03 \pm 0.01$ and $\mathcal{B}_{Λ_c^+ \to Σ^+ η'}/\mathcal{B}_{Λ_c^+ \to Σ^+ π^0}=0.33 \pm 0.06 \pm 0.02$. Using $\mathcal{B}_{Λ_c^+ \to Σ^+ π^0}=(1.25 \pm 0.10)\%$, we obtain $\mathcal{B}_{Λ_c^+ \to Σ^+ η}=(3.14 \pm 0.35 \pm 0.11 \pm 0.25)\times10^{-3}$ and $\mathcal{B}_{Λ_c^+ \to Σ^+ η'}=(4.16 \pm 0.75 \pm 0.21 \pm 0.33)\times10^{-3}$. Here the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and from $\mathcal{B}_{Λ_c^+ \to Σ^+ π^0}$, respectively. The ratio of the branching fraction of $Λ_c^+ \to Σ^+ η'$ with respect to that of $Λ_c^+ \to Σ^+ η$ is measured to be $\mathcal{B}_{Λ_c^+ \to Σ^+ η'}/\mathcal{B}_{Λ_c^+ \to Σ^+ η}=1.34 \pm 0.28 \pm 0.06$. We update the asymmetry parameter of $Λ_c^+ \to Σ^+ π^0$, $α_{Σ^+ π^0} = -0.48 \pm 0.02 \pm 0.02$, with a considerably improved precision. The asymmetry parameters of $Λ_c^+ \to Σ^+ η$ and $Λ_c^+ \to Σ^+ η'$ are measured to be $α_{Σ^+ η} = -0.99 \pm 0.03 \pm 0.05$ and $α_{Σ^+ η'} = -0.46 \pm 0.06 \pm 0.03$ for the first time.

Measurement of the branching fractions for Cabibbo-suppressed decays $D^{+}\to K^{+} K^{-}π^{+}π^{0}$ and $D_{(s)}^{+}\to K^{+}π^{-}π^{+}π^{0}$ at Belle

We present measurements of the branching fractions for the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decays $D^+\to K^{+}K^{-}π^{+}π^{0}$ and $D_s^{+}\to K^{+}π^{-}π^{+}π^{0}$, and the doubly Cabibbo-suppressed decay $D^{+}\to K^{+}π^{-}π^{+}π^{0}$, based on 980 ${\rm fb}^{-1}$ of data recorded by the Belle experiment at the KEKB $e^{+}e^{-}$ collider. We measure these modes relative to the Cabibbo-favored modes $D^{+}\to K^{-}π^{+}π^{+}π^{0}$ and $D_s^{+}\to K^{+}K^{-}π^{+}π^{0}$. Our results for the ratios of branching fractions are $B(D^{+}\to K^{+}K^{-}π^{+}π^{0})/B(D^{+}\to K^{-}π^{+}π^{+}π^{0}) = (11.32 \pm 0.13 \pm 0.26)\%$, $B(D^{+}\to K^{+}π^{-}π^{+}π^{0})/B(D^{+}\to K^{-}π^{+}π^{+}π^{0}) = (1.68 \pm 0.11\pm 0.03)\%$, and $B(D_s^{+}\to K^{+}π^{-}π^{+}π^{0})/B(D_s^{+}\to K^{+}K^{-}π^{+}π^{0}) = (17.13 \pm 0.62 \pm 0.51)\%$, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. The second value corresponds to $(5.83\pm 0.42)\times\tan^4θ_C$, where $θ_C$ is the Cabibbo angle; this value is larger than other measured ratios of branching fractions for a doubly Cabibbo-suppressed charm decay to a Cabibbo-favored decay. Multiplying these results by world average values for $B(D^{+}\to K^{-}π^{+}π^{+}π^{0})$ and $B(D_s^{+}\to K^{+}K^{-}π^{+}π^{0})$ yields $B(D^{+}\to K^{+}K^{-}π^{+}π^{0})= (7.08\pm 0.08\pm 0.16\pm 0.20)\times10^{-3}$, $B(D^{+}\to K^{+}π^{-}π^{+}π^{0})= (1.05\pm 0.07\pm 0.02\pm 0.03)\times10^{-3}$, and $B(D_s^{+}\to K^{+}π^{-}π^{+}π^{0}) = (9.44\pm 0.34\pm 0.28\pm 0.32)\times10^{-3}$, where the third uncertainty is due to the branching fraction of the normalization mode. The first two results are consistent with, but more precise than, the current world averages. The last result is the first measurement of this branching fraction.

Search for the lepton flavour violating decays $B^{+} \to K^{+} τ^\pm \ell^\mp$ ($\ell = e, μ$) at Belle

We present a search for the lepton-flavour-violating decays $B^+ \to K^+ τ^\pm \ell^\mp$, with $\ell = (e, μ)$, using the full data sample of $772 \times 10^6$ $B\overline{B}$ pairs recorded by the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+ e^-$ collider. We use events in which one $B$ meson is fully reconstructed in a hadronic decay mode. We find no evidence for $B^\pm \to K^\pm τ\ell$ decays and set upper limits on their branching fractions at the 90% confidence level in the $(1$-$3) \times 10^{-5}$ range. The obtained limits are the world's best results.

Tailoring of rhenium oxidation state in ReOx thin films during reactive HiPIMS deposition process and following annealing

Bulk rhenium trioxide (ReO3) has an unusually high electrical conductivity and, being nanosized, has promising catalytic properties. However, the production of pure ReO3 thin films is challenging due to the difficulty to stabilize rhenium in a 6+ oxidation state. Here we present a novel approach for the deposition of ReOx (x = 1.6-2.9) thin films using reactive high power impulse magnetron sputtering (r-HiPIMS) from a metallic rhenium target in a mixed Ar/O2 atmosphere. The thin films were deposited in the gas-sustained self-sputtering regime, observed during r-HiPIMS process according to current waveforms. The influence of the substrate temperature, the oxygen-to-argon flow ratio and post-annealing at 250 °C in the air for 3 h on the properties of the films were studied. The as-deposited films have an X-ray amorphous structure (a-ReOx) when deposited at room temperature while a nano-crystalline \b{eta}-ReO2 phase when deposited at elevated temperatures (150 or 250 °C). The amorphous a-ReOx can be converted into the crystalline ReO3 with a lattice parameter of 3.75 Å upon annealing in the air. The surface morphology of the films is dense without detectable voids when elevated substrate temperatures are used. Various Re oxidation states are observed on the surface of the films in different ratios depending on the deposition parameters. All samples exhibit electrical resistivity on the order of 10-3 Ohmxcm and optical properties typical for thin metallic films.

The study of $γγ\toγψ(2S)$ at Belle

Using $980~\rm fb^{-1}$ of data on and around the $Υ(nS)(n=1,2,3,4,5)$ resonances collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider, the two-photon process $γγ\to γψ(2S)$ is studied from the threshold to $4.2~{\rm GeV}$ for the first time. Two structures are seen in the invariant mass distribution of $γψ(2S)$: one at $M_{R_1} = 3922.4\pm 6.5 \pm 2.0~{\rm MeV}/c^2$ with a width of $Γ_{R_1} = 22\pm 17\pm 4~{\rm MeV}$, and another at $M_{R_2} = 4014.3\pm 4.0 \pm 1.5~{\rm MeV}/c^2$ with a width of $Γ_{R_2} = 4\pm 11 \pm 6~{\rm MeV}$; the signals are parametrized with the incoherent sum of two Breit-Wigner functions. The first structure is consistent with the $X(3915)$ or the $χ_{c2}(3930)$, and the local statistical significance is determined to be $3.1σ$ with the systematic uncertainties included. The second matches none of the known charmonium or charmoniumlike states, and its global significance is determined to be $2.8σ$ including the look-elsewhere effect. The production rates are $Γ_{γγ}{\cal B}(R_1\toγψ(2S)) = 9.8\pm 3.6\pm 1.2~{\rm eV}$ assuming $(J^{PC}, |λ|) =(0^{++}, 0)$ or $2.0\pm 0.7\pm 0.2~{\rm eV}$ with $(2^{++}, 2)$ for the first structure and $Γ_{γγ}{\cal B}(R_2\toγψ(2S)) = 6.2\pm 2.2\pm 0.8~{\rm eV}$ with $(0^{++}, 0)$ or $1.2\pm 0.4\pm 0.2~{\rm eV}$ with $(2^{++}, 2)$ for the second one. Here, the first errors are statistical and the second systematic, and $λ$ is the helicity.

Measurement of ${\mathcal B}$($B_s \rightarrow D_s X$) with $B_s$ Semileptonic Tagging

We report the first direct measurement of the inclusive branching fraction ${\mathcal B}(B_s \rightarrow D_s X)$ via $B_s$ tagging in $e^+e^-\toΥ$(5S) events. Tagging is accomplished through a partial reconstruction of semileptonic decays $B_s \rightarrow D_s X \ell ν$, where $X$ denotes unreconstructed additional hadrons or photons and $\ell$ is an electron or muon. With 121.4 fb$^{-1}$ of data collected at the $Υ$(5S) resonance by the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+ e^-$ collider, we obtain ${\mathcal B}(B_s \rightarrow D_s X)$ = $(60.2 \pm 5.8 \pm 2.3)$\%, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic.

Measurement of Two-Particle Correlations of Hadrons in $e^{+}e^{-}$ Collisions at Belle

The measurement of two-particle angular correlation functions in high-multiplicity $e^+e^-$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=10.52$ GeV is reported. In this study, the $89.5~{\text{fb}}^{-1}$ of hadronic $e^+e^-$ annihilation data collected by the Belle detector at KEKB are used. Two-particle angular correlation functions are measured in the full relative azimuthal angle ($Δϕ$) and three units of pseudorapidity ($Δη$), defined by either the electron beam axis or the event-shape thrust axis, and are studied as a function of charged-particle multiplicity. The measurement in the thrust axis analysis, with mostly outgoing quark pairs determining the reference axis, is sensitive to the region of additional soft gluon emissions. No significant anisotropic collective behavior is observed with either coordinate analyses. Near-side jet correlations appear to be absent in the thrust axis analysis. The measurements are compared to predictions from various event generators and are expected to provide new constraints to the phenomenological models in the low-energy regime.

We report results from a search for the decay $B_s^0\rightarrowηη$ using 121.4 fb$^{-1}$ of data collected at the $Υ(5S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider. We do not observe any signal and set an upper limit on the branching fraction of $14.3\times 10^{-5}$ at $90\%$ confidence level. This result represents a significant improvement over the previous most stringent limit.

Measurement of Differential Branching Fractions of Inclusive ${B \to X_u \, \ell^+\, ν_{\ell}}$ Decays

The first measurements of differential branching fractions of inclusive semileptonic ${B \to X_u \, \ell^+\, ν_{\ell}}$ decays are performed using the full Belle data set of 711 fb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance and for $\ell = e, μ$. Differential branching fractions are reported as a function of the lepton momentum, the four-momentum-transfer squared, light-cone momenta, the hadronic mass, and the hadronic mass squared. They are obtained by subtracting the backgrounds from semileptonic ${B \to X_c \, \ell^+\, ν_{\ell}}$ decays and other processes, and corrected for resolution and acceptance effects. The measured distributions are compared to predictions from inclusive and hybrid ${B \to X_u \, \ell^+\, ν_{\ell}}$ calculations.

Chemical-state analyses of Ni, Zn, and W ions in NiWO$_4$-ZnWO$_4$ solid solutions by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy

The chemical states of Ni, Zn, and W in microcrystalline NiWO$_4$-ZnWO$_4$ solid solutions were studied by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The recorded spectra of the Ni 2p, Zn 2p, and W 4f photoelectron lines and Ni L$_2$M$_{23}$M$_{45}$, Zn L$_3$M$_{45}$M$_{45}$, and W N$_4$N$_{67}$N$_{7}$ Auger-transition lines show pronounced changes with increasing Zn concentration. The positions of the resolved photoelectron and Auger-transition lines were combined to construct so-called chemical-state plots (Wagner or Auger-parameter plots) for metal ions in solid solutions. With increasing Zn concentration, the Auger parameter increases for Ni and decreases for W, thus evidencing a lowering and an increase of the electronic polarizability around core-ionized Ni and W ions, respectively. At the same time, the character of Zn-O bonds and the local structure around Zn ions do not change. It is concluded that the dilution of NiWO$_4$ with Zn ions is accompanied by an increase of the Ni-O bond ionicity and an increase of the W-O bond covalency. These changes are attributed to the charge redistribution among [NiO$_6$] and [WO$_6$] structural units. We show that a careful in-depth analysis of XPS data obtained with a laboratory-based X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy system can give chemically sensitive, qualitative information on the changes in the first coordination spheres of each metal ion. This information is otherwise accessible only by synchrotron-based techniques (such as X-ray absorption spectroscopy).

Measurement of branching fractions and search for $CP$ violation in $D^{0}\toπ^{+}π^{-}η$, $D^{0}\to K^{+}K^{-}η$, and $D^{0}\toϕη$ at Belle

We measure the branching fractions and $CP$ asymmetries for the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decays $D^{0}\toπ^{+}π^{-}η$, $D^{0}\to K^{+}K^{-}η$, and $D^{0}\toϕη$, using 980 fb$^{-1}$ of data from the Belle experiment at the KEKB $e^+e^-$ collider. We obtain \begin{eqnarray} \mathcal{B}(D^{0}\toπ^{+}π^{-}η) & = & [1.22\pm 0.02\,({\rm stat})\pm 0.02\,({\rm syst})\pm 0.03\,(\mathcal{B}_{\rm ref})]\times 10^{-3}\,, \nonumber \\ \mathcal{B}(D^{0}\to K^{+}K^{-}η) & = & [1.80\,^{+0.07}_{-0.06}\,({\rm stat})\pm 0.04\,({\rm syst})\pm 0.05\,(\mathcal{B}_{\rm ref})]\times 10^{-4}\,, \nonumber \\ \mathcal{B}(D^{0}\toϕη) & = & [1.84\pm 0.09\,({\rm stat})\pm 0.06\,({\rm syst})\pm 0.05\,(\mathcal{B}_{\rm ref})]\times 10^{-4}\,, \nonumber \end{eqnarray} where the third uncertainty ($\mathcal{B}_{\rm ref}$) is from the uncertainty in the branching fraction of the reference mode $D^{0}\to K^{-}π^{+}η$. The color-suppressed decay $D^{0}\toϕη$ is observed for the first time, with very high significance. The results for the $CP$ asymmetries are \begin{eqnarray} A_{CP}(D^{0}\toπ^{+}π^{-}η) & = & [0.9\pm 1.2\,({\rm stat})\pm 0.5\,({\rm syst})]\%\,, \nonumber \\ A_{CP}(D^{0}\to K^{+}K^{-}η) & = & [-1.4\pm 3.3\,({\rm stat})\pm 1.1\,({\rm syst})]\%\,, \nonumber \\ A_{CP}(D^{0}\toϕη)&= & [-1.9\pm 4.4\,({\rm stat})\pm 0.6\,({\rm syst})]\%\,. \nonumber \end{eqnarray} The results for $D^{0}\toπ^{+}π^{-}η$ are a significant improvement over previous results. The branching fraction and $A_{CP}$ results for $D^{0}\to K^{+}K^{-}η$, and the $A_{CP}$ result for $D^{0}\toϕη$, are the first such measurements. No evidence for $CP$ violation is found in any of these decays.

Search for lepton-flavor-violating tau-lepton decays to $\ellγ$ at Belle

Charged lepton flavor violation is forbidden in the Standard Model but possible in several new physics scenarios. In many of these models, the radiative decays $τ^{\pm}\rightarrow\ell^{\pm}γ$ ($\ell=e,μ$) are predicted to have a sizeable probability, making them particularly interesting channels to search at various experiments. An updated search via $τ^{\pm}\rightarrow\ell^{\pm}γ$ using full data of the Belle experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 988 fb$^{-1}$, is reported for charged lepton flavor violation. No significant excess over background predictions from the Standard Model is observed, and the upper limits on the branching fractions, $\mathcal{B}(τ^{\pm}\rightarrow μ^{\pm}γ)$ $\leq$ $4.2\times10^{-8}$ and $\mathcal{B}(τ^{\pm}\rightarrow e^{\pm}γ)$ $\leq$ $5.6\times10^{-8}$, are set at 90\% confidence level.

Measurements of the branching fractions of the semileptonic decays $Ξ_{c}^{0} \to Ξ^{-} \ell^{+} ν_{\ell}$ and the asymmetry parameter of $Ξ_{c}^{0} \to Ξ^{-} π^{+}$

Using data samples of 89.5 and 711 fb$^{-1}$ recorded at energies of $\sqrt{s}=10.52$ and $10.58$ GeV, respectively, with the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^+e^-$ collider, we report measurements of branching fractions of semileptonic decays $Ξ_{c}^{0} \to Ξ^{-} \ell^{+} ν_{\ell}$ ($\ell=e$ or $μ$) and the $CP$-asymmetry parameter of $Ξ_{c}^{0} \to Ξ^{-} π^{+}$ decay. The branching fractions are measured to be ${\cal B}(Ξ_{c}^{0} \to Ξ^{-} e^{+} ν_{e})=(1.31 \pm 0.04 \pm 0.07 \pm 0.38)\%$ and ${\cal B}(Ξ_{c}^{0} \to Ξ^{-} μ^{+} ν_μ)=(1.27 \pm 0.06 \pm 0.10 \pm 0.37)\%$, and the decay parameter $α_{Ξπ}$ is measured to be $0.63 \pm 0.03 \pm 0.01$ with much improved precision compared to the current world average. The corresponding ratio ${\cal B}(Ξ_{c}^{0} \to Ξ^{-} e^{+} ν_{e})/{\cal B}(Ξ_{c}^{0} \to Ξ^{-} μ^{+} ν_μ)$ is $1.03 \pm 0.05\pm 0.07$, which is consistent with the expectation of lepton flavor universality. The first measured asymmetry parameter ${\cal A}_{CP} = (α_{Ξ^{-}π^{+}} + α_{\barΞ^{+}π^{-}})/(α_{Ξ^{-}π^{+}} - α_{\barΞ^{+}π^{-}}) = 0.024 \pm 0.052 \pm 0.014$ is found to be consistent with zero. The first and the second uncertainties above are statistical and systematic, respectively, while the third ones arise due to the uncertainty of the $Ξ_{c}^{0} \to Ξ^{-} π^+$ branching fraction.

Evidence of nickel ions dimerization in NiWO$_4$ and NiWO$_4$-ZnWO$_4$ solid solutions probed by EXAFS spectroscopy and reverse Monte Carlo simulations

The existence of exchange-coupled Ni$^{2+}$ ions -- the so-called magnetic dimers -- in wolframite-type NiWO$_4$ and Zn$_c$Ni$_{1-c}$WO$_4$ solid solutions with high nickel content was discovered by X-ray absorption spectroscopy combined with reverse Monte Carlo (RMC) simulations. Temperature- (10--300 K) and composition-dependent x-ray absorption spectra were measured at the Ni K-edge, Zn K-edge, and W L$_3$-edge of microcrystalline NiWO$_4$, Zn$_c$Ni$_{1-c}$WO$_4$ and ZnWO$_4$. Structural models were obtained from simultaneous analysis of the extended x-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) spectra at three metal absorption edges using RMC simulations. The obtained radial distribution functions for different atomic pairs made it possible to trace in detail the changes in the local environment of metal ions and the effect of thermal disorder. Dimerization of Ni$^{2+}$ ions within quasi-one-dimensional zigzag chains of [NiO$_6$] octahedra was evidenced in NiWO$_4$ in the whole studied temperature range. It manifests itself as the splitting of the Ni-Ni radial distribution function into two separate peaks. The effect is further preserved in solid solutions Zn$_c$Ni$_{1-c}$WO$_4$ for $c \leq 0.6$, which is related to the probability to find two Ni$^{2+}$ ions in neighboring positions.
